For me the hero, or maybe the unsung hero, in hockey is most often the goalie. Even when they don't do any flashy saves or when the team wins by 6 goals. The reasoning is that goalies have such a significant role in every game. For any other player, the difference between a good day and bad day rarely really makes the difference between a win and a loss. For a goalie, a bad day very often means a loss, and a shutout always means a win. But even when the goalie doesn't need to do much, the rest of the team gets a hue confidence boost if they have a solid, trustful goalie. It means that they don't need to be afraid of making plays and they don't need to overthink their decisions, because in their spine they have the trust that even if they mess up, the goalie will bail them out. So yeah, the best goalies are the heros of every single game, because their skills and presence help the team even in the nights where they don't need to save that much. |
