If I were the GM of a dream team between the Hamilton Steelhawks and Calgary Dragons, I’d load up my ice time between my top two centres, Brodie Witzel and Joe McKeil, both of the Steelhawks, along with dynamite wingers Christoph Klose, Kain Webb, Raymond Lindsay, and the ole wily veteran, Roberto Martucci.

On the back-end, I’d keep the sure-handed Dragons combination of Vladislav Smirnov and Alexei Grigorenko together in order to maintain some chemistry, but they’d get fairly even playing time as I’d also have to distribute minutes among Ekblad, Carlsson, Drake, and Chisling.

The money line up front would be Witzel, paired with Dragons winger Klose and fellow Steelhawks winger Lindsay. This line would provide plenty of speed and offence in a dynamic combination of Klose and Witzel, while adding some defensive accountability and grit in experienced veteran winger Lindsay, who can also add in some offence of his own to the mix.

McKeil, meanwhile, would get fewer minutes than Witzel, but would play a key role in specialty teams, with all power play units and penalty kill units.

With these two centres, and skilled bottom-six centres Saku Perhonen and Rehn Miller behind them, the team’s greatest asset is its depth down the middle of the ice, but Wissink, Mucyk, Wilson, and Bolt provide much-needed size along with a scoring touch on the bottom-six.

This is a well-rounded team from top to bottom that could challenge any Challenge Cup-winning team in this league’s history, and probably win convincingly.
