The Hamilton Steelhawks enter S19 after another disappointing postseason. After losing to the Minnesota Chiefs in the SHL Playoffs, the team entered the off season very uncertain about their future. Star forwards Joe McKeil and David Winter both were Unrestricted Free Agents, as well as Ivo Willems having a Player Option to possibly leave. Not knowing weather or not they would stay, the instantly became priority #1 for the off-season.
"Joe and David were both at the top of my list of things to do over the break. I wanted to make sure they would come back with the team. The two of them are vital pieces to our club, and they bring a great veteran presence in the locker room. We're very lucky to have two men like this on our team." -GM Blaine S19 is a very crucial season for the Hamilton Steelhawks. Following the season Mckeil, Winter, Hall, Tutankhamen, and Willems are all Unrestricted Free Agents. Hamilton is in a must win season. The team arguably has the best roster in the whole SHL, they've just lacked the ability to find success in the post-season. Another major piece of news was regarding star player Jordan Hall when he announce his possibility of heading back to Winnipeg in the upcoming off-season if Hamilton did not find success again. Jordan Hall has spent the last couple seasons playing both defense and offense for the Hawks, as well as serving as the teams Assistant General Manager. "Hall has been an amazing partner, and often has gone above and beyond what was asked of him. I'm very lucky to have had an assistant like this. He's served Hamilton and helped make them the team they are today. Regarding his future though, we have been in lots of discussion, and he felt as though it was his time to step down as Co-GM. We would like to thank him for his seasons of service to the team. With that being said I am very pleased to announce that Jordan Hall will be moving to Head Coach of the Hamilton Steelhawks where he can use his magic and help with lines. Hall is very knowledgeable and has helped find lots of success. We're very happy with this move as a club." With Hall stepping down it leaves a hole to fill for the Hamilton Steelhawks management, but they have found their replacement. "I am very excited to welcome Magnus Jakobsen as the new Assistant General Manager of the Hamilton Steelhawks. Jakobsen is everything I would want in a potential GM. He has shown that he has a great work ethic both on and off the ice, he bleeds Steelhawk colors, and most of all he is our rising star and the future face of the franchise. I'm very excited to begin working with him! I already know he will be able to step in and do an amazing job. Jakobsen has made it known that he does not wish to play anywhere other than Hamilton, and as a team going into a potential retool, there is no better player to base your young team around than Magnus. He's going to be a Steelhawk for a long time, and he will be the face of the franchise soon. Code: 545 words |
