Cellar Dwellars

The Kelowna Knights and Vancouver Whalers come into this game hoping to change their seasons around. Both teams have been hovering near the bottom of the standings for a majority of the year. Kelowna comes in with an 8-9-2 record which is good for 18 points, while the Whalers are sitting at 8-8-3 and 19 points. After the win tonight Vancouver holds an important 2-0-0 record head to head against the Knights which could be important later on for seeding purposes. After losing the first five games of the season Vancouver has been on a slight win streak lately winning 7 of their last 9 contests.
 
Faceoff Wizard

Stracimir Petrovic was incredible in the faceoff circle tonight winning a whopping 23 of 33 faceoffs. He would not be denied and was even heard gloating about it in the middle of the game. At one point when he lined up across from Ryan Shepard he bellowed that he could win the faceoff with his eyes closed and proceeded to close them and look around as he came up to the faceoff circle. Shepard didn't seem to appreciate that and a pushing match ensued but no penalties were enforced. To add insult to injury Petrovic laid a vicious hit on Shepard minute later all but ensuring his presence was felt that night.

Good ole Fashioned Shootout

This is Vancouver's sixth shootout of the season with a record of 2-3 in those games. Likewise, Kelowna is 3-2 in their 5 shootout games up to this point. Both clubs spot 3-3 record in shootouts after this game in six tries. Despite Vancouver's lack of shots on the night, the shots they took ended up finding the back of the net. With only 1 shot total being taken in overtime the teams moved to a shootout. The Knights missed their first shot just wide of the net and the Whalers took advantage on their try. It was all they needed as neither team scored another shootout goal.
