Player prompt:
As Mat Smith gets closer and closer to the end of his career, he can't help but sit back and look back over the past 16 seasons. Overall he's very grateful to all who helped him during his developmental years and beyond, and feels truly lucky to have had the career he's had. Going back to his junior days in Quebec City, Smith felt he performed average to above average for the four seasons he was there, taking home the Onoprienko as his only individual award, but a Laurifer Trophy and Four-Star Cup as a team. In the SHL, Smith really hit his stride, taking home a McBride, three 1st all-star nominations, three Honchos, two President's Trophies, and two Challenge Cups (technically, he was a call up for the first). Internationally he's also done well for team Finland, getting two WJC gold medals, three IIHF golds, and two IIHF best goaltender awards. It's safe to say that Smith is very happy with the career he's had and wouldn't trade it for anything. |
