Outlaws Anaheim @ St. Louis Scarecrows
SMJHL S47 Game 63

PREGAME:
Hey folks and welcome to tonight’s recap of the battle of the heavyweights coming to you from St. Louis. Both of these teams have been playing crisp hockey to start the season and look to continue to rack up the points here early. Anaheim has posted a 6-3-3 record on the back of Hiro Fujikawa’s hot goal scoring start, potting 8 in the first 12 games. Before last night’s loss to Vancouver, Anaheim recorded at least a point in 9 straight games. Quite the streak. St. Louis has started 7-4-1 and their scoring depth has been a focal point. Any line can score which makes them a dangerous team. They are currently on a 3 game win streak and both teams are looking to stay hot!
Starting Goalies for tonight:
Tibuk Soonika for Anaheim and Billy Sorokin for St. Louis.

FIRST PERIOD:
Anaheim wastes no time in getting an early lead. Martijn Westbroek hammers a shot from the point that Hiro Fuujikawa artfully redirects by Sorokin for his 9th goal of the season. Fujikawa continues to find the back of the net and looks like a man on a mission out there. That also marks Westbroek’s 10th helper this season. From here on out though, it’s all St. Louis. 6 minutes later Gaspard Boone rifles a wrister off the post but Noah Gallagher is there to clean up in front. Gallagher is a winger who can really make a difference with his net front presence due to his big frame. With a minute to go left in the 1st period, Boone makes no mistake this time and buries his 3rd of the season. Larry gets the primary assist on this goal which makes 2 for him this period. 11-10 shots this period in favor of St. Louis. Both teams look evenly matched right now.

FIRST
ANA 1 - 2 STL

SECOND PERIOD:
Tyler Tougard scores one minute into the second as he takes a blocked shot and puts it top shelf from the slot extending St. Louis’ lead to 2. Anaheim looks in disarray to start the period and things start getting chippy. Osbert Whacker gets sent off soon after St. Louis’ 3rd goal for roughing. St. Louis has a busy powerplay but can’t get anything by Soonika. At 7:06 of the 2nd, Filip Zadina gets on the board after another blocked shot finds its way directly to him in open space. Boomhover with the primary assist on this one. After giving up 4 goals through 1.5 periods of play, Anaheim’s coach has seen enough from Soonika to know it’s not his night. He brings in the backup Michal Burzawa to see if he can spark something from his team. Anaheim has looked completely dominated in this period so far, recording no shots. Charlie Serpe gets called for hooking at 10:47 but Anaheim can’t even get a shot off on the powerplay. Another penalty taken by Jerry Larry leads to a second Outlaws powerplay. Again, no shots. Abysmal special teams here as they look to claw themselves back in the game. St Louis has come out this second period and taken over. Anaheim can’t do anything offensively and is being stifled. The second period comes to a close with the Outlaws only recording 2 shots. This speaks volumes about St. Louis’ talented blue line core. The Scarecrows had 9 shots this period, 2 of which found the back of the net.

SECOND
ANA 1 - 4 STL

THIRD PERIOD:

Exactly like the first two periods, period 3 kicks off with a goal under 2 minutes in. Filip Zadina buries one from the right face-off circle and makes it 5-1. Boomhover gets the primary assist. That’s his 5thassist of the season and 2nd in this game. Jerry Larry gets called for another penalty and Anaheim go back on the powerplay. Anaheim manage to set up this time and rocket 2 shots from the point, but Sorokin brought his A game tonight and smothers both with no rebound. Another empty powerplay for the Outlaws. Filip Zadina complete his hat trick at 9:31 of the 3rd and this game has gotten out of hand. Anaheim look completely lost in the defensive zone and their defensive positioning has been suspect all game. Boomhover gets his 3rdassist on the night picking up the secondary assist on Zadina’s 3rd goal. The hats rain down from the stands and the crowd is loving it here in St. Louis. The final horn sounds and that ends this one-sided beat down. St. Louis is now 3-0 on the season vs the Outlaws and really seem to have their number here early in the season.

FINAL
ANA 1 - 6 STL

STARS OF THE GAME:

Third star from the St. Louis Scarecrows: Gordie Boomhover (3a)
Second star from the St. Louis Scarecrows: Gaspard Boone (1g, 1a)
First star from the St. Louis Scarecrows: Filip Zadina (3g)
