In case SHL needs to be more extreme and more related to movie industries or their networks I could suggest adding explosives to the puck!

Imagine it like this - from the moment You control the puck timer goes on and Your team has 15 seconds to make a shot to the net.

Scenarios:

If You overheld the puck - it explodes!
If You shoot the puck and there is a rebound or a wide shot and nobody controls it - it explodes!
If the goalie catches the puck - the timer stops!
If the goalie is hit by the puck - the timer resets!
If the timer ends in the middle of the shot - it explodes!
After offside timer stops.

Major changes:

Because of the greater probability of injury, the scratched players can be dressed (like extra roster spots).
Minimum 5 goalies can be assigned to the game because a bomb can still explode after crossing the goal line.

After few season game could develop and various bombs might be added. Captains or alternate captains could choose what kind of bombs could be used in the particular faceoff.

Blaster puck - C4 based explosive that crashes the rubber coating like a shrapnel
Sparky - the magnesium powder is added that creates beautiful sparks all around
Smoker - the colorful or black powder is added and after the explosion creates a smokescreen
Horn - extremely loud explosive is added
Hot puck - the flammable chemical is added creating a burst of flames after the explosion
Nuke - a larger amount of explosive is added meaning instant injury if the explosion occurs

Michael Bay would be proud.

The center position has now been changed to "Enforcer" The enforcer is not allowed to wear ice skates and must walk in boots. Instead of a hockey stick, they are given a baseball bat which they are allowed to use to take players down. There will be no hooking, slashing, or roughing penalties for players in this position. A penalty will be assessed if they play the puck in any way other than it getting incidentally bounced off them. Additionally, anyone found guilty of an embellishment penalty must be hit by the enforcer until the embellishment is no long embellishment, but just sever discomfort from being taken out by the enforcer. Fortunately we will leave injuries turned off for the league so no one will really be hurt, but should be interesting to watch and a fun position for those that like a physical game. One final note for the Enforcers- they are allowed to swing at the goalies, but only if they have a skate touching any part of the ice outside the crease.

SHL has just been picked up by HBO and it is all about extreme now. The difference between SHL and NHL is that this extreme version of SHL requires that teams always have one fight during the match and the players will be chosen by their teams. The fight will always be during the third period when the teams are hungry to secure a win. When the players fight they will be given boxing gloves. The fight only ends when one player gets knocked to the floor. Referees cannot get involved. As you can see the SHL will require a different tactic and must secure players like Laraque in the NHL to give their teams the competitive edge. This will ensure that they win their fights and give their respective teams the momentum to finish the 3rd period strong. This is indeed a cool addition to SHL and will increase the fan base. I mean who doesn't love a good fighting match. This boosts everyone's testosterone levels and men will pay bucks to see it. You can expect the SHL to make a killer revenue from this addition

The Extreme SHL would be a hybrid of ice hockey and rocket league. Skaters would receive power-ups for positive things they do on the ice. Their skates would be automatically power boosted for every hit and blocked shot. There would be no offsides, so if skaters chose to cherry pick on offense, it would be up to the defense to guard that player if they chose to do so. Keepers would have a much bigger crease to give them more vision to protect their goal. If goalie interference sill happens to occur, the goalie is given a penalty shot of their own. In addition, there would be no time limit to the games. The game would end when the first team reaches 7 goals. Cross-checking & fighting are both allowed and encouraged. This is not SHL for the faint of heart. This is Extreme. This is what we will tell our grandkids about. The future is now. We have waited too long to add this level of excitement to the current version of the SHL. Put on your big boy skates and lace up.

Surface hockey. These two words will change the world when it comes to playing hockey, requiring adaptability, strength, team coordination and creativity from all teams. So, what is it? Simple, the rink divided into thirds, where one team is playing on a hardwood surface, one team is playing on grass and the middle area is still ice. Defensemen and goalies can only play in their respective area, whilst forwards can move from area to area. The home team gets to choose which surface they want to play on twice. So, who would play this game? Well rumours have it that the SHL will be hosting a small summer league with select players from across the league in a small 4-team tournament, one for each division, to test run a fun format and get people talking about the SHL during the off-season. There are still logistical issues to deal with, mainly whether or not players will be wearing skates, roller blades or stay with regular shoes on. Stay tuned as the story develops over the coming months.

Honestly these days hockey players have just gotten too soft and I think if it would change then viewership of the SHL would go much higher up. I think the changes to eliminate softness in the SHL could start slowly such as starting to get rid of the visor for the skaters. Why is this needed? All it does is get in the way of actualy good fights and also all you see are guys trying to unfog them on the bench. Get that whimpy stuff out of here so we can see some actual pain in fights. Next, I'd eliminate the glass around the rink and move the sections where the people sit a bit further back. Whys is that? Well then we can see some awesome hits where players are going out of the arena and have to get back in, would be really fun. Time to unsoften hockey agan and the SHL should definitely make it happen and lead the way

Ok. There’s a bunch of stuff that needs to change. Hockey is not a big sport in the first place. So being pretend second fiddle to the top league does pose some problems. None that can’t be fixed tho.

First. Let’s bring back hits to the head. That shit was brutal, but why do people watch nascar? For the wrecks. Right. You can not tell me there was not a little excitement when someone had their head down and you KNEW Scott stevens was SOMEWHERE!

Next. Make it a league cash-incentive league. Like xfl or ufc. You do have a base salary but most of your money comes from performance bonuses. Including fight of the night. If there is no fight in the game you can either forfeit the bonus or have equal ranking members of the opposing organizations fight.

And lastly. Boobs. Boobs fix everything. Having a bad day? Look at some boobs. Other team scored? Look at some boobs. Not into boobs? We will have dongs too. Don’t like boobs? Look at a dong.

If you say, “But don’t want to look through all of those swinging songs to see some boobs!”

Then you never wanted to see boobs in the first place....

With a brand new deal with ESPN, the SHL was very excited to expand its brand to a much larger audience. Keeping in mind that even the NHL doesn't have a deal with ESPN, the SHL was very happy to be broadcasted on the worldwide leader of sports. The HO was surprised when ESPN demanded the SHL be part of its extreme sports package. However, with the very large amount of money that ESPN was offering, the SHL was willing to be part of the extreme sports package.
How to take the game of hockey and make it more extreme?
The HO decided that answer was obvious. The SHL players would no longer be allowed to wear skates.
With the players slipping and sliding around, being on a breakaway is no longer too much fun. Worried about being run down from behind? Well, you could try to hurry up, but don't fall on your face. Think you are going to trap the puck to the boards with your skate? Well, be ready to be slashed on your sock. And it will hurt, there are no footpads.

Hockey has always been a traditional sport that has diehard fans. Fandom is passed down by generations, and once hockey sinks its fangs into you, fans tend to be hockey fanatics. For the SHL to succeed in drawing in new diehard fans, it will need toto think of new ideas to bring in new fans in the younger demographic. With the prevalence of online gaming and streaming culture with the younger generation, attention spans have gotten shorter, and thus the game needs to continue to get faster and showcasing clippable moments more frequently. To enable this, I propose that the rink is made slightly smaller, and the game to be played at 3v3. Each franchise will have 2 squads, and gamedays will consist of a best of 3. Games will be played with running time, 15 minutes for each period. Coaches will decide which squad will play first, and the second squad will play second. If there is a need for a third match, Coaches can decide which squad will play the decider match. This will allow coaches to bring an next level of tactics into play.

In order to make hockey more extreme I would add jet packs to the backs of players. They only get a certain amount of fuel each game though so they have to be careful when to use it. With this one simple change the game is entirely different. Anyone can get a breakaway at any moment. Players with amazing hands but slow skating immediately become more of a threat. Defensemen can get to any spot on the ice and lay a huge hit at any point in time. But they need to be smart with their fuel because if they run out at any time they become a defensive liability and an offensive non factor.

Hockey becomes faster, players get open more often, more goals are scored, more breakaways happen, turnovers turn into odd man rushes on a dime. It's a wonder to me how this hasn't already been added to the game. The marketing writes itself. JPHL, Jet Pack Hockey League. Tell me that doesn't immediately grad the attention of the casual fan.

With the SHL looking for new and “extreme” ways to enhance our lovely game of hockey, I would like to look no further than how we should rip of Pro Beach Hockey. PBH was a fantastic roller hockey league that was played outdoors on a beach in California, but it had some pretty cool tweaks that made it fun. First thing would be creating ramps behind the nets. What this does is constantly kicks the puck back into play and it can’t get stuck behind there. Plus it could make for some really crazy skaters getting some air. But the most important tweak would be adding the “Dome zone”, which is essentially a long, curved line in the offensive zone (think a 3 point line in basketball) where all goals scored behind it are worth two goals. That’s really awesome, and it made for some fun games with some crazy comebacks. These little changes would more than likely increase scoring and make for even more exciting plays. Let’s go! (169)

For purposes of cable TV syndication, the SHL will rebrand into Sumo Hockey League! But not with those silly padded costumes that you see in intermission shows. No! Instead of adding padding, they are going to take away all the pads and other safety gear and only allow wearing a rudimentary sumo belt in the name of general decency and sandal skates as depicted below! To mitigate the danger at least somewhat, the normally frozen vulcanized rubber puck will be adapted to make it at least a little bit softer and the blades of the hockey sticks will be seamed with some sort of softening gasket. Otherwise the game is assumed to stay the same gritty physical contact sport as before, except for the additional nod to japanese sumo culture that all fights that might break out will have to be settled in true sumo wrestling match style, but still on skates. No info yet on how the japanese cultural attache or the international sumo federation has to say about this whole idea, but hey they don’t have to watch it if they don’t like it :D

After 69 shots on net with still no SHL goals to show for it, even the opposition started to feel so sorry for Lemo, that they decided to help him out :D
- Bad pass by Jack Klompus, he gave it right to Lemo Pihl.
- Lemo Pihl rips it to the net...
- Lemo Pihl will find the empty net, that should do it!
TEX @ MAN, S59 game 31

It has been difficult for SHL to compete with NHL so we need to find ways to make the game more exciting and enjoyable. First and foremost, I think when fans come to the games or watch them on tv they want to see less passing and more goals scored so passing more than 3 times in a row is a 2-minute penalty now, essentially if you are the 3rd consecutive player on your team to touch the puck, then you have to shoot or you will receive a minor penalty. We will also make goalie equipment smaller, which is also something NHL has been doing but we'll take it to extremes. But it would still be difficult to score from your own zone so I guess we'll make the rink twice as small and we'll play 3 on 3. We'll also make the ice actually slightly tilted because why not. We will play 4 quarters of 10 minutes and each game will have around 30-40 goals scored.
