S53 Championship Week

With everyone getting a free redistribution this offseason, S54 is quite wide open at the moment. Before those redistributions take place, who would you anticipate being the top team(s) for next season?

I don't think much will change when it comes to the top teams next season, I think the top teams will still be New England, Hamilton, New Orleans, Edmonton, Calgary, and San Francisco. Hamilton are the defending Champions and have a great tactic that the whole team buys into, New England has the most TPE of any team and still has 2 2000 TPE players in Wagstrom and Kirkby. New Orleans has a very talented team including the highest TPE Goalie. Edmonton the Cup runner up always seems to be in the mix and even though some of their veteran core is getting older they have the young players that should keep them contending. The same could be said for Calgary but the Canadians are slightly behind their rivals. The Pride of come onto the playoff scene recently but it seems they are here to stay, while they have an older core that's in regression the younger players should be able to fit right in.

Which player from the Steelhawks or the Blizzard would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

If I had to choice a player from either team to win an award in the future it would be Flacko Lagerfield. Lagerfield would have been my favorite to win the MVP award this season if Ola Wagstrom didn't break the single season SHL goal record. Lagerfield was the offensive leader for the Steelhawks in a season when they were the second best team in the regular season. Another player I would choice would be either Jax Duggan or Gabriel Johnson winning the Defenseman of the Year award somewhere down the road. Both of them will be competing with Blizzard Dman FR Finn-Rhys for the award in a few seasons.

Just like everything else in S53, IIHF is going to be an exciting mystery for us all! We've seen the introduction of a new format (all 14 teams in one group) and it's bound to be a very exciting tournament. What are your predictions for IIHF this season? What team or teams do you think have the best shot at taking home the gold? How do you think your team will fare?

The S53 IIHF season should be an interesting tournament as it's the first one on the FHM engine. Looking at how the S53 season turned out it's fair to say the teams with a lot of TPE has a big advantage, those teams would be mainly the USA and Canada. As such those 2 are my favorites to win gold in this years tournament. As for Russia even though we are lower on the TPE spectrum I am cautiously optimistic about our chances to get into a medal round this season. While we don't have the huge names other countries do, we have a solid group of players that will help us compete. One player to watch for Russia is Center Mika Kandinsky, the former unanimous Rookie of the Year, Mika leads Russia in TPE and is our biggest scoring threat. Combine our talent with a little Russian grit and determination and we have a chance to surprise the whole world.

Blizzard... snow... ok debate time - do you like snow? yes or no? why or why not? +1

We get a lot of snow in the winter here I live, while everyone gets excited for the first snow of the year. After the first snowfall it becomes an unwanted burden. It sucks to drive in, it's a pain to shovel out of the driveway even if you have a snowblower.

S54 is going to be pretty interesting because I want to see what even is going to change in their builds. For me personally, I'm only going to make some small adjustments because I enjoyed my sniper build this season. I'm thinking about changing some physical stats but nothing too crazy. I think for sure the New England Wolfpack is going to continue their dominance at the top of the standings simply because their team is loaded with high TPE players so their builds are still going to be fantastic even if they change them. Of course, Hamilton is going to be at the top again because even though they may not have the higher overall players, they are always smart with their strategies and player builds. I know that the Winnipeg Jets could be a good team but it's going to take a lot of work. We are only a couple of seasons away from being at our prime but I think we can start to compete as early as next season if we play our best hockey.

For me, it has to be someone from the Hamilton Steelhawks. They know how to build their players and the strategies that it takes for them to be productive. Whether it is on the offensive side of the ice or even on the defensive side, they will have a new of players that will always be in the top 10 for the next couple of years at least. I think the easy answer is that Geezus Kryyst will probably be able to snatch the award for the best goalie in a future season. There will be some tough competition but if Hamilton continues to excel with their strategies, he will continue to be a top 3 goalie every season and will be destined to take the award home.

With new tools at our disposal in FHM, we may eventually see some new awards enter the fold. Create a suggestion for a new SHL award. What kind of achievement is the award given for? Who's the award named after? Who would've won the award this season?

This is a very interesting topic because I don't usually agree with adding a ton of awards because I think awards should go to only a few people or else it's just going to end up being everyone goes home with an award and I don't think that's what we want. Although for the sake of this task, I think there should be an award for the player that gains the most TPE in a season cycle. The person should be recognized for the time they spend on the website and the dedication they put into their player. I'm not sure which player gains the most TPE but I would probably name it the Ola Wagstrom award because I know he's always putting in the work to gain the most TPE as possible especially when they hand out the +1 TPE for participation in threads. Wagstrom would probably win the award this season but it might give some players the push they need to continue at it if there's an award for all their hard work.

Since its the first season that IIHF is going to be played under this format and with a new sim engine, I really have no idea what's going to happen. There's always some crazy stuff that goes on with the competition regardless and now that all these new things are being added, I think it's going to be something that I'll have fun watching unfold. Obviously, I think these like Sweden, Great Britain, and Germany will continue to do well and dominate and will probably all end up going home with some sort of silverware at the end. For my sake, I'm just hoping that Latvia gets to the medal round. After participating with the team for a couple of seasons and almost always coming up short, it would be nice to finally get to play for something. Our team is getting better and better and I hope we can finally get the chemistry working amongst ourselves and make it out of the group stage. It's going to be a very tough task because there are so many good teams but I think we'll be up for the challenge.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are long over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Reflecting back on the series, who gets your vote for series MVP? Make the case why this player deserves it over any other.

My favorite point task of the entire finals. The one that I always get to do because I'm never early to these sorts of things and always wait until the end. Congratulations to the Hamilton Steelhawks for winning the Challenge Cup! Even though I didn't watch any of their games, I'm sure it was an exciting one for everyone to watch. It's hard not to give it to Tony Pepperoni after finishing the postseason with 7 more points than the player in second place but I can't see myself giving it to the player on a losing team. Therefore, I think I would give the MVP award to Geezut Kryyst. He finished the playoffs with a 12-3 record with a 1.71 GAA and 0.941 SV% so I think it's not even close.

2. I don’t think that better builds are going to fool raw TPE anyway. Hamilton/New England are probably going to stay at the top of East, with Calgary/Edmonton and LA being the top teams in the west, probably followed by exactly who followed them this season already – Buffalo, Manhattan for East, New Orleans and San Francisco for West. There is value in having a better mix of players to choose from and make lines with, but with how heavily the sim values correct strategies and makes the coach an important role within the team structures, I don’t think that a team like Chicago or Winnipeg will suddenly surge up and overtake any of these teams on sheer build base. If something like that happens, the praise will have to be put on to the shoulders of coaches/GMs that managed to improve their understanding of the sim and put together a better on ice performance from the ingredients they already had.

4. I think personally that we do have options to maybe spring up for something like the best agitator/goon award. It has a potential to reward those who don’t seek points or defensive stats, they just want to see the world burn and FHM allows these people to actually have their way at it with it actively helping their teams rather than actively hurting them like it did with Simon. Obviously, right from the get go I don’t think we would have a ton of contestants and a lot of the nominees would cover over with the Biscuit, but eventually I believe we could see a small but dedicated group of people profile out in the teams that want to see some blood on the ice and I think with how important but obviously how overlookable this role is, we could use a little bit of a spotlight for these people and give them a bit of love that completely missed for this role during the olden days.

5. With IIHF, the rule of TPE is probably going to be important again. Obviously, better coaches get better results, but I couldn’t imagine some of the most popular teams like USA or Canada struggle during the tournament even autolined compared to the smaller nations that will have to extract everything their rosters have and then some to have a shot at even the knockout bracket. Therefore, I think it’s between USA and Canada for the gold, and that’s very likely going to be the final if that’s possible. Below them, it might get a bit more interesting between some of the medium sized nations like Germany, Czechia and such, which could be more interesting, but I think strength of those rosters doesn’t have a ton do offer against the top 2, so they most likely end up fighting for bronze. Being part of Czechia, I am someone who tends to look pretty conservatively at potentional results, but a bronze I don’t think is completely out of the question and if we could get it, that would be a fantastic result as IIHF Czechia has not seen a ton of results in it’s history.

13. a) I think the easy choice is Pepperoni. Players close to 2k TPE are very rare, and because of the switch of the engines, now the TPE actually has a meaning and allows people to still make meaningful choices even in the absolute heights of earning, so having someone have all of that TPE should make them, at least individually, the strongest player.

b) So you have the question of speed versus physicality. I think if you put those two against each other it’s pretty easy to see that I would enjoy having the more physical team simply because speed is good to get places, but if you get outmuscled and pushed out of them, you will definitely struggle to put together a meaningful offensive play or a good defensive shift. I am a big fan of physical play myself, so obviously that’s a bit of a bias, but I favour Hamilton there.

c) Alright, let’s start from the back where the easy decision is to take Kryyst thanks to a massive TPE advantage, even if that doesn’t play a ton of role in FHM seemingly. For defense, I think I would choose Murphy and Scholz, going basically by TPE but I couldn’t pass on picking up Tig so there is also that advantage. Forward group is likely Pepperoni – Lagerfield – Tokolosh. Again, high TPE setup, but then again, TPE is meaning something and there are some good numbers of TPE all across this group of players.

d) I am a big fan of snow, actually. Makes it more fun to drive, I really like the look of a city covered in snow, I am a big fan of winter and cold aswell and obviously snow brings that with itself, I think snow has a lot more advantages than disadvantages (like having to deal with it trying to get places), so snow is good.

This first season with FHM was new for all of us, but what wasn't new was that we had some very good teams (Hamilton / NEW / LAP) and some very bad teams (Toronto / Tampa Bay / Texas).  With everyone having the ability to tweak their players with redistribution, I think we might see a little change but nothing too crazy.  I feel that New England and Hamilton will again be the teams to beat in the East, but the West could see a little bit of change.  LAP is still going to be a force and Edmonton and Calgary will still be competitive, but I think the New Orleans Specters will not have to battle for the last playoff spot in S54.  I think we have a solid group of players and a great management team, and after our slow start to the S53 season, we were able to start playing some decent hockey.  I feel that is going to pick up where we left off and with some minor redistribution tweaks we will be battling for the top spot in the West this coming seasons

I'm going to go with Gabriel Johnson here.  The S48 draft pick had an amazing season for the Steelhawks and is only getting better.  Johnson leads all S48 players with TPE (I know this because my player Lyle Odelein III is sitting behind him in 2nd), and the past season he put up 15 goals and 32 assists, just under a point per game.  That there are some solid numbers, and since Johnson is still a few seasons away from his prime, I definitely see see an individual award for Gabe in the next few seasons, namely the Scott Stevens award for best defensman.

With this new format, I think that we will see some of the same teams that have traditionally fared well in the IIHF tournament do exactly the same.  There are two teams that come to mind, Canada and the United States of America.  The Americans have done very well for themselves in the last couple of tournaments, while their northern neighbours have had a couple of disappointing early exits as of late.  I have a feeling that this tournament may have these two teams facing off in the gold medal game, and as a player for Team Canada, I think the Canadians will show the Americans and the rest of the world that they are once again top dog.  I don't thin it'll be easy at all, a lot can happen in the IIHF tourney, and most likely will, but I think (and hope!) that this Team Canada squad we have this season will be the team to beat and be the ones wearing those shiny new gold medals when all is said and done.

Even though the Panthers fell short this season, the LA influence has been felt around the league and execs in Hollywood are paying more attention to the SHL with the hometown team making waves. If your player could have a cameo in any tv show or movie, what show/movie would they choose? (for the purposes of this PT you may choose a show/movie that already exists just uhhh pretend they re-shoot it with your cameo or something idk).

If Lyle could be in one movie or show it would have to be a hockey related cause that is really all Lyle knows.  If you asked Lyle this this question, his answer would be for sure be the Mighty Ducks movies.  Lyle was a huge fan of those movies when he was growing up, he wanted to have a slap shot like Fulton and worked day and night on trying to get one.  He had to be sat down and told that no matter how much he tried, he probably wouldn't be able to replicate that slap shot since they had to use some 'movie magic' to get those slappers.  To this day Lyle still practices his slap shot to be more like Fulton's.

The arenas in Edmonton and Hamilton certainly don't need any gimmicks to get people into the stadium for the series, but the arenas want to make sure they're pulling out all the stops on the big stage. Help the concessions department of one of these two teams develop a new product, with marketing specifically pertaining to this finals series, to be sold at the arena during the finals. Describe the product and the marketing in 150 words or create a promotional poster showing the product, its name, the price, etc.

Hamilton is a Ontario city, located just outside the GTA (Greater Toronto Area).  With a population of over a half million people, there are a lot of people there to cheer for the Steelhawks.  However, before the Steelhawks and the SHL set up shop in the Hammer, they only had one local professional sports team to cheer for, the Hamilton Tigercats of the CFL (Canadian Football League).  While most of the city have taken to the Steelhawks, there is still a small group of Tigercats loyalists who feel that the Steelhawks have infringed on their beloved teams fan support.  So for these playoffs, the Steelhawks and Tigercats got together to show city unity and let fans of both teams know that they are all Hamilton through and through.  They came out with a Tigercats inspired jersey and gear and the Tigercats have done the same with Steelhawks inspired uniforms for their upcoming CFL season.  Tigercats players and management were on hand at all of the Hamilton home games, meeting with the fans and helping cheer on their newest team mates.  The SHL champs are scheduled to be on hand for the Tigercats home opener to return the favour.

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S53 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?

In real life, Tokolosh went to a fortune teller, who was able to predict the regular season award winners. He was instructed to not share this secret with anyone, else the future would revert back to chaos. Julio filled out his preseason form and submitted it but didn’t tell anyone. A handful of peers around the league noticed his and copied it, though. In the reality that I’m writing about, Tokolosh’s predictions were noticed only by his teammates, and the 17 person roster experienced a 68 uncapped (it mattered then) TPE jump, giving them the juice to defeat Hamilton in the championship. Just 4 extra per person wouldn’t have been a ton, but it all could have brought the team’s universal 5 in fighting up to a 7, and then we could have kicked @Gwdjohnson ‘s ass and gotten him off of his game so that he didnt crush us with a historic game rating.

I believe New England and Hamilton are going to battle it out in the conference finals again. With top coaching, leadership, and front office decision makers, both are primed to come in with major tweaks to smaller role players that will give them a specific edge over their growing rival. There is some high TPE depth on both rosters, and I predict that their management will commit the time to learn how to use a lower tpe player as 4th line / power play specialist. It might not be the active players, but perhaps redistributing the inactives in a very team friendly way. Both seem to already have a good understanding of tactics and lines, as the entire first page of the statistics index starts with HAM or NEW. Taking notes on how these two titans duke it out over the next few seasons is going to do a lot to establish the meta and team structure for the coming era.

FR Finn-Rhys @FinnRhys is the future. He comes from one of the greatest defensive paths of all time. Studying under Cassius Darrow, Gary Grease, and Troy McClure in Colorado set young Finn Rhys (spelled without the hyphen to juice the word count) on the path towards stardom. In Edmonton, Brady McIntyre, Karlstra~e Scholz, and Tor Tuck are all monsters. Under their tutelage, Finn Rhys will be able to mold a dominant player. I hope that he gets some players to develop alongside of. In a few seasons when Finn Rhys is passing those guys as they regress, the transition will be seamless and he will have the Edmonton defensive throne to himself. The King in the North!

I’ve got a few, so I’ll just rattle them off. I’ve been private messaging HO and awards committee every day, but they haven’t gotten back to me. I think they are still discussing things internally.
Julio Tokolosh Award: Given to the forward with higher passing than shooting, who during the regular season spent more than 90% of his or her ice time with multiple goal scorers on the same line, finishes 50th or worse in assists at the end of the year, the linemates combine for 50 or more goals, and at least one of them is top 5 on the site in TPE, and the player must be in the top 3 skaters for time on ice. This trophy is awarded to the most useless player who needs build help. Please, if you’re still reading this I need build help. @hotdog , pls, your build, I crave it.
Julio Tokolosh Award Part 2: This one was co-named by his wife, but her idea was closer to “The Don’t Be Such A Hesitant Loser. Just Make A Decision. Try Something In Your Goddamn Life For Once. Take A Risk. Don’t Be Such a Bitch About Everything. You Pussy-Foot Around Everything And Then Bitch About It Like It’s Some Anomaly And You’re The Victim. Grow Up!”. The award goes to the forward with the best take-away / give-away ratio, but only if he or she meets the qualifications of the first part of the Julio Tokolosh award, or is narcissistic enough to try and name two awards after himself. This would be awarded to Cameron Carter II.

Come up with a program of intermission entertainment for one of the games of the finals. What's the between-period on-ice entertainment the fans will enjoy? The goofier the better, go crazy.

As a player-coach of the Edmonton Blizzard, Tony Pepperoni wanted to take a lower salary in order to surround himself with elite defensemen, a cow, and a rookie. With his budgetary restrictions established by the team’s needs, Tommy wanted something in his contract to control and sought something that still had value. Intermission entertainment is where he landed. During the regular season, Tony would skip the intermissions and stay on the bench in order to judge the ongoing talent show. He would take a pen and pad and score each act. Mites on ice, bumper racing, long-range accuracy, and everything else were shown until the last week of the season when Tommy saw the best act, prompting him to cancel the tournament so that the winner could hone the act before the postseason. The act, of course, was hockey cats. The whimsical cross-over event of Disney’s Mighty Duck’s franchise and the tales of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s jellicle cats.
I like that "jellicle" isn't a word according to Grammarly. Yea, you'd think this would be written better because I use grammarly.

Johnny Hamilton is out of work, so his agent, @hhh81 set up the cow with some of his Hollywood connections. “As a Colorado Raptors alumn, this is something that I’m very familiar with.” Chris Pratt had not heard of the simulated hockey star and offered a canned response about how it is great to have him on set. It will be a short cameo, where Julio will be trussed up and fed to whatever they imagine is bigger and cooler than a T-Rex. “Cameos are signs of greatness. 13. Written, up to 4 TPE Pick up to 5 Challenge Cup related topics to write about! Each topic is worth 1 TPE. Each answer must be 50+ words to qualify.
a. Who is the best player in this CC finals? Plenty of good candidates: Lagerfield, Phelps, Kryyst, McIntyre, Pepperoni, Scholz, etc. Who's your choice for best player and why?
b. Based on player ratings, EDM has the advantage in speed and acceleration and HAM has the advantage in balance and strength. Which team's physical skills will give them the edge in this series?
c. Assemble your ideal fantasy team out of players in this series - F, F, F, D, D, G. Explain your choices.
d. Blizzard... snow... ok debate time - do you like snow? yes or no? why or why not?

A - Brady McIntyre is the grand poobah. He is almost guaranteed a 100 defensive game rating and has been the shutdown daddy all postseason. Kryyst has also been very hot, evidenced by his literal hotness rating (shown with icons on the app/engine), and by shutting down the high powered New England offense, after sweeping the high scoring Viktor Marius.
B - My gut says that speed and skating wins the game. But balance is very skating related, and hearing horror stories on spittin chiclets (the little sister program of simmin chiclets) about players get trolled for spending too much lying on the ice (as opposed to skating on it), I’m torn. My gut’s gut tells me that Hamilton did many many test sims
C - My first forward would be Tony Pepperoni, who gets the job done in fantasy and on the real simulated ice. He’s a balanced player who meshes with every setup. My second forward would be Robert Phelps; less dynamic than Tony, but effective where he needs to be. He’s in his 40th season and still getting the job done. I would like that consistency. My last forward would be Flacko Lagerfield. The guy (assuming flacko is a “guy’s” name) has done the job at every location in every position, and nothing has slowed him down. He’s another older player, so maybe that's just my type. Brady McIntyre and Karlsta~e Scholz are my two D-People. I thank them in the locker room but not as much as I should. I love both my goalies in EDM, but kryyst is so buttery smooth. i trade down and take any of the three.
D - Yes, I like snow. It can really kick off a party or take a night out to the next level, or really keep things going after a heavy thanksgiving meal, or help you stay alert during church. But I like snow outside of the ziploc in my wallet as well. I’m a cold weather guy, and its much easier to warm up with an extra layer than it is to be super sweaty and gross in the summer. Wearing a quarterzip to the bar will usually suffice, its not like you’re going to an outdoor restaurant when it’s snowing.

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S53 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?

In an alternate reality, Calgary managed to win game 7 of the first round against the rival Edmonton Blizzard. This would spur the Dragons locker room to dizzying heights and help build momentum for the rest of the playoffs, leading to a showdown between the Dragons and the Steelhawks. The Steelhawks would gain the early series lead with a victory at home in game 1, but the Dragons would earn a gutty win in game 2 to take a crucial road game. Calgary would use this momentum to take games 3 and 4 both with scores of 2-1 due to an immense defensive effort by the Calgary blueline. Hamilton would not simply roll over however. Hamilton would win game 5 at home in dominating fashion to the tune of 5-1. Confidence slightly shaken, Calgary would go down 3-1 in the 3rd period in game 6. However a late flurry of pressure by the Dragons would bag them 2 goals to send the game into overtime. After almost a full period of overtime, forward Mike Izzy would find himself on a breakaway after a mistake by the Hamilton Blueline where he would bury it past the goalkeeper to clinch the cup.

With new tools at our disposal in FHM, we may eventually see some new awards enter the fold. Create a suggestion for a new SHL award. What kind of achievement is the award given for? Who's the award named after? Who would've won the award this season?
I think Game rating is an interesting stat and while we dont know everything that goes into it, I think it tries to represent how much value you are providing your team in certain facets of the game. I think an award for highest game rating would allow the league to recognize players who are not as high profile as the top stars of the league for maintaining a high level of play and being a key cog to their teams strategy. This year the winner would have been Lil Manius, who earned a sky high average game rating of 83. Manius was a PPG player whose traditional counting stat totals dont measure up to the top players, but he still outshone those players with his game rating. Whats perhaps most impressive is that Manius achieved this by playing extremely well on both sides of the ice earning a 78 OGR and a 80 DGR, meaning he was almost equally excellent on both sides of the ice, appearing near the top of the lists. I think recognition is due to less heralded great players, and this award may fill that need.

Barkov is a big fan of the show Friends and the actors who were in the show. Barkov would however choose to make a cameo in an episode of Episodes. The show follows actor Matt LeBlanc, who famously played Joey on the show friends. LeBlanc gets casted as a hockey coach in the show Pucks!, which is a not very faithful reproduction of an award winning show on british television that had nothing to do with hockey. Barkov would appear as a potential rival in the episode which threatens LeBlanc's position as coach in the school, leading to various hi-jinks as they both compete. Barkov would get to rub shoulders with one of his favorite actors and get to show off his hockey skills at the same time. a win-win.

It will certainly be an exciting competition, but I think you will see the teams with greater depth really be able dominate teams that just cant go line for line. Im thinking teams like Canada/USA/Russia should be heavy favorites to medal. My international team, Finland, will once again be relegated to the scrppy underdog role as we continue to build up with an influx of young talent. That talent will start to show in this years WJC, and you can be sure in the future when those players make the jump to the SHL, Finland will make a major breakthrough. As for this year, we will be heavily relying on veteran goaltender Harry Carpet to lead the way and potentially steal some games from more talented teams during the round robin. The forward core remains a weakness as the team will once again be forced to play a defense man at forward in order to fill out all the spots.

I think the series MVP should go to the Hamilton Goalkeeper, Geezut Kryyst. He put on an unbelievable performance in the finals, carrying the Steelhawks to victory in inspired fashion. When you have a save % of .941 in the playoffs, i think that speaks for itself. He also achieved a GAA of well under 2, meaning the pressure on the already impressive offense of the Steelhawks was minimal. Most teams would kill to get that kind of performance from their goalie come playoff time. Another player who had a great performance and might have won if the series had gone the other way, was Tony Pepperoni, who once again led Edmonton to the finals thanks to his herculean efforts night in and night out. Unfortunately, as the loser of the finals, i didnt feel it correct to choose him.

It's season 52 and the Toronto North Stars have shocked everyone by ripping off 20 straight wins at the end of the season to advance into the playoffs. Narrowly beating out the Manhatten Rage for the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. Now that they have made the playoffs unexpectedly, they ride their hot goaltender to a Challenge Cup appearance. Their deep and expansive farm system were all brought up mid season to help the team and they road that wave of youth and optimism to a surprise playoff showing. In the playoffs the North Stars clean sweep through the first two rounds and then end up facing none other than the Calgary Dragons for the championship. An old fashioned battle or Canada to take the cup. The series goes the full 7 and Stars end up taking the whole thing. Is this the next dynasty we see here before our eyes. It just might be. 165 words

With everyone getting a free redistribution this offseason, S54 is quite wide open at the moment. Before those redistributions take place, who would you anticipate being the top team(s) for next season?
I'm going to talk about the SMJHL since that is still where I play. Detroit will still be good but with all of their players hitting caps and other teams able to get their own depth I think the SMJHL really is wide open. Anaheim will be tough again as usual. We could have a solid defensive core with three fully capped centers. We own a bevy of our own picks this year so I really think the Outlaws can make a big push for another cup. Detroit will probably still be the favorite, but I think the league will be gunning for them. Let's move over to the SHL where I think the landscape of the league will be a lot different. Teams have had the time to look at other and see how they can change their builds. I think Calgary is a team that could benefit a lot from redistribution and a year of FHM knowledge under their belts. 162 words

Hell I'll play John Wayne if they really want me to. I could even have a role as a European who wants to come over to Westworld. Like a Season 1 character who has a little bit of a storyline. Came over to live my Western dreams and thought it was really cool until robots started killing everyone. Unfortunately I would probably die but I would need a cameo in a Western to give Outlungus the press he deserves. 115 words

I think everyone in the league knows whats attributes are OP now due to how last season played out so all the higher TPE teams are gonna have an advantage, especially if GMS tell their players to all brainlessly put TPE into the best attributes with no regard for uniqueness or individuality in their builds like has happened in the past but its still really the opposite of what the leagues supposed to be about. Nonetheless, if you want to win you have to conform to the meta that's been forced upon the league so I  expect teams like Chicago, Calgary, Buffalo, New England, and Hamilton to all be at the top of the standings next season. Maybe we can sim half the season on STHS to give the worse teams an actual chance at having an actually respectable season and let their actives have a chance at producing some half-way decent stats.

I think with all the new advanced stats available its really gonna open things up as far as awards voting in terms of there being a lot of different ideas and support for people who might not have won awards in the past. That being said, I think an award specifically for the most proficient player advanced stats-wise is still a good idea and could help avoid conflict in the future when it comes to awards. I can definitely see voting where a player with amazing advanced stats and a decent season production-wise wins an award over a dominant player production-wise who also has poor advanced stats. I think it's something that should be thought about as I can definitely see more big awards voting snubs/controversies in the future. I think advanced stats are a good tool for voting but in sim production should still be the most important as far as voting for the big awards goes.

Come up with a program of intermission entertainment for one of the games of the finals. What's the between-period on-ice entertainment the fans will enjoy? The goofier the better, go crazy.

The Steelhawks and Blizzard really wnet all out for this championship finals. They brought back two legends that played for both the Edmonton Blizzard and the Hamilton Steelhawks to talk about the series and their love for the two teams. The first legend goes by many names, some call him stud, some call him belial, some call him Khan and to some he doesn't even have a name, that's right they brought back RONAN O'KEEFE. Ronan was handed the mic and he preceded to breathe heavily into it for over 4 minutes which made the members of the audience noticeably uncomfortable. He then handed the mic to Freidrich Muller, whispered in his ear, and then ran off. Muller, who was clearly inebriated, went on a 7 minute rant about how he should've won the Scott Stevens award one year and got screwed out of it by a commissioner before passing out on the steps. The teams have since said they will no longer invite SHL legends to their games.

a. I think its pretty impossible to bet against Flacko Lagerfield when it comes to being the best player. He's no only the best player in the series but was probably the best forward in the entire league this season. I think Flacko will give Hamilton a major edge over the Blizzard in this series due to all the factors that made him the best player in the regular season.

b. I think it's pretty hard to bet against Hamilton when it comes to physical skills. Hamiltons skills have shown them to be arguably the best team in the league all season long and have been absolutely dominant in large part due to their physical attributes. I think Hamilton will wear Edmonton down over the series and balance and strength will end up playing a much bigger factor than speed will.

c.
F - Robert Phelps
F - Aaron Wilson
F - Flacko Lagerfield
D- Gabriel Johnson
D-Tig Murphy
G- Geezus Kryst

I think given Hamiltons dominance all season long and the dominant play of their top line you can't pick anyone on Edmonton for the roster although some of Edmonton's players are probably better. You also have to factor in FHM chemistry which Hamilton has had all season to build up with each other and if you throw in a couple Edmonton players on the line they lose some of that.

d. Who doesn't love snow? Winter sports are the best sports in the world and winter months are the best. There's sometimes living in Edmonton where I don't like the snow, but that's less the snow and more the fact that it's -40 outside with wind and you can barely stay out for 10 minutes. If you have the perfect weather with snow then it's great but if its too gold or too warm it can suck.

The Buffalo Stampede got swept by the Hamilton Steelhawks. Both teams are equally matched on paper but the Stampede played horribly in the series but things would have been different if they did play well. In another universe, Buffalo’s superstar Poopity Scoop led the team to the Challenge Cup finals. He would have the most points on their team and be a nominee for the playoffs MVP. Flacko Lagerfield and Ola Wagstrom couldn’t score a goal when Poopity Scoop was on the ice. In the Western Conference, New Orleans would be the champion. Their coach outsmarted the opponents. They always had a plan to make their opponents best players scoreless in the series. They kept adjusting their lines every game to counterplay the other teams. The Panthers won the first game but they lost the next four games. Same thing happened with the Blizzard. It seems like the Specters were just playing slow in game 1 just analyzing the way the other teams play.

There’s three teams that I believe could be better next season. Manhattan Rage was the defending champion but they finished in fourth place with 53 points. This team is still a contender on paper but played poorly during the regular season. I think they can be better than the Steelhawks. San Francisco Pride lost to the Rage in last year's finals. They were the best in the west but this year they finished in fifth place, missing the playoffs. They have a better roster than the Panthers who have dominated in the west. Lastly, I believe Chicago can be a contender next season. They are way better than West Kendall and yet they finished one point above them. The eastern conference is really strong but we will see the top three teams regress this offseason and the Syndicate are young and will get better. Those three teams can had the roster to compete last year but I think their players build were off while Los Angeles and New England were ready for the new sim engine.

I think the best team will be the USA. They always have been strong in the tournament because of their deep roster pool. I don’t see them not winning the gold medal this year. Czechia will be stronger for sure. They are young and talented and they will keep getting better over the years. They will be a contender in this competition. I think the dark horse in this competition will be Switzerland. They aren’t the best right now but if they play well, they could make it to the medal game. They have a solid squad but the players are inexperienced. My team Japan could finish in the top eight. We have a good defensive core but offense is lacking. We won’t be able to outscore the top teams. Our goalie will be the weakness probably. We lost to the USA the last two tournaments in the quarterfinals. I don’t think we got a better chance this year.

I think Geezus Kryyst is the best player in this CC finals. Two years ago, this two teams played in the finals but Hamilton destroyed Edmonton because they couldn’t score against Geezus Kryyst. He won the playoffs MVP that year and he’s poised to win another one only losing one game this year. I’m not sure if Edmonton have the weapon to defeat him.

I think Hamilton have the advantage because the team will more likely have less turnovers. In the finals the players are going to hit hard and Hamilton players are a lot more stronger than Edmonton. I think the Blizzard will struggle to stay on their feet in a best of seven against the Steelhawks.

F- Tony Pepperoni
F- Robert Phelps
F- Flacko Lagerfield
D- Tig Murphy
D- Brady McIntyre
G- Geezus Kryyst

For the forwards I chose the best offensive players in the league. They are all future hall of fame players and they are going to be the aces for their team. I chose Murphy and Mclntyre because they are better defensively. They can shut down any all stars forwards. Geezus Kryyst is the best right now in the playoffs. He might win the MVP.

I don’t enjoy snow because It can be annoying. I can’t stay outside or go on a trip because it’s too cold. The snow can be slippery sometimes so it’s hard to walk. I have to clean the driveway every morning which is frustrating. The snow gives us too much work.

It's fairly obvious what would happen in an alternate universe version of these playoffs. Everybody knows the Manhattan Rage were one of the most dangerous teams in these playoffs, at least to New England. Due to that, in this alternate universe the Rage complete the reverse sweep to come back against the Wolfpack in the first round and make the Eastern Conference Finals. They then also fall to the Hamilton Steelhawks, however. The Finals match-up remains constant, Edmonton and Hamilton meeting, with the best result happening -- Edmonton wins the Cup yet again.

This may not be the best timeline in the world, but it is a good timeline where the best team outside of Manhattan takes home the Cup. Is this conceit? Yes. But can you blame me? (Probably, yes.) The teams who I love and am connected to had success, met great evils and in one case even fell. It's as fair as I feel I could be.

This one again feels fairly obvious. Even with redistributing, you can't top the sheer quantity of tpe that certain teams have accumulated. In this case, New England is the clear top team heading into S54 with their acquisition of a top tier goaltender in Benjamin Blue. They already had an absolutely dominant defensive group, and now adding in a complete package behind them is going to give them the easiest path to the Cup ultimately. Beyond them, Los Angeles has brought back the majority of their roster and was stellar last season with just an unlucky streak in the playoffs losing the coin flip far too regularly. Both of these were teams expected to suddenly jump up the standings when FHM came around and they had, now they got their feet wet and are about to jump through the page with their depth to meet in the Challenge Cup Finals.

I'm fairly confident Flacko Lagerfield is going to be winning the Ron Mexico Trophy this season, however, we're talking about in a future season. Well, in a future season, such as S54, I'm very confident that Tony Pepperoni is going to take home some hardware in the form of a Sergei Karpotsov Award. The Edmonton legend Karpotsov was one of the best players of all time, and Pepperoni will stamp his case with the win. Beyond that, I wouldn't be surprised to see Emiko Spector with the great defense in front of her win a John McBride along the way, nor seeing Karlstrabe Scholz take home a Scott Stevens Trophy. The Blizzard are stacked, and in the long term will see a lot of hardware coming their way.

With new tools at our disposal in FHM, we may eventually see some new awards enter the fold. Create a suggestion for a new SHL award. What kind of achievement is the award given for? Who's the award named after? Who would've won the award this season?

The one thing I've always, always been on about is that goaltenders need more opportunities to stand out. We have so few opportunities for goaltenders typically, and don't show them nearly the amount of love they ultimately need. What I would do for a goaltending award is a bit trickier, because there's only so much we have the ability to access. What I would make an award for is shutouts. It's one of the easiest things to track and be able to talk about, but with shutouts it's rarely really rewarded. It may be that it helps you to get the lowest goals against -- though the Honcho is improperly handed out to the player with the lowest GAA when it should be lowest GA for qualifying goaltenders, I'll get on that soapbox some other time -- but it doesn't guarantee anything. Giving the Tom Corcoran Award for shutouts would be spectacular, named as such for the goaltender in S13 who led the league and broke records with 11 shutouts in 44 games, getting a shutout in 25% of his starts. Feels pretty obvious to me, makes a lot of sense and gives you clarity on the award.

If we treated the Razov the way it should be as well, we should be using a Finals MVP and a Playoffs MVP award. The Razov is more so the Playoffs MVP and should be named solely as such, rewarding the success of the whole playoff run. Meanwhile, there should be another award for basically the most clutch performer who performs the best when the pressure is on -- the Challenge Cup Finals. I personally would argue it should be named the Jakub Aittokallio simply for my .940+ sv% and sub-1.50 GAA in elimination games in his career, but I know that I don't get that kind of respect and appreciation around here and would ultimately expect nothing to ever bare the name Aittokallio. Rather, it would be named the Brandon Sawyer Trophy as the man to win the Razov twice.

I'll tell you this, this could be a pretty fascinating battle. We have had one player in SHL history win the Razov without being on the winning team. Will Tony Pepperoni have a case for the Razov? Well, with 20 points in 17 games, he led the playoffs by 7 points and played an insane 26 minutes per game through the playoffs mostly due to the exhausting overtime series against Los Angeles. He can be a contender at least. However, the important thing to pay attention to, Geezus Kryyst has locked this one up. A .941 save percentage, a 1.71 GAA with a 12-3-0 record. This is the second quickest Cup win in SHL history since 4 teams started making the playoffs, only second to Jason Aittokallio's 12-0-2 in S34. Kryyst has set himself apart as a legend in this run and deserves the award. This would I believe make him also only the second player in SHL history to win the Razov twice after playoff legend Brandon Sawyer, the aforementioned player who won the Razov from the losing team.

So that being said in this parallel reality of the S53 Playoffs we see the Buffalo Stampede duke it out against the Edmonton Blizzard for the chance at the challenge cup. In this reality, the west goes the exact same as it did in our reality but in the east, the Buffalo Stampede destroy the Hamilton Steelhawks in the first round in order to meet the New England Wolfpack in the conference finals where they once again sweep past the opposition. Then in the challenge cup finals, we see something different as the Buffalo Stampede are down 3-1 in the finals to the Blizzard where they slowly take it back off the back of some incredible play in order to win it in 7 games to become the S53 Challenge Cup champions. It's a reality that is heavily biased but one I wish we could have seen.

With everyone getting a free redistribution this offseason, S54 is quite wide open at the moment. Before those redistributions take place, who would you anticipate being the top team(s) for next season?

Going into next season with everyone having the experience of that first FHM season we will see a season that was a lot more competitive and live up to what we had imagined than the season of last. That being said I feel the teams at the top as of right now will still be reigning supreme next season. In the east we have HAM and NEW who were extremely dominant last season and next season they are only going to be getting better as they have squads full of active guys and they seem to not be losing anyone. Then theres BUF who always field an impressive roster, especially now with the call up of Doyle. Then in the west I feel the top 4 teams last season in LAP, EDM, NOLA, and CAL will all be top contenders in that division. I feel the last three teams will have much better bounce back seasons next year as well to make for the top spot in the west a lot more competitive than this season.

With new tools at our disposal in FHM, we may eventually see some new awards enter the fold. Create a suggestion for a new SHL award. What kind of achievement is the award given for? Who's the award named after? Who would've won the award this season?

With the prominence of goalie heat levels and fatigue I feel that having an alternate goalie award would be a great addition to the lineup of SHL awards that we currently have. There is only one goalie award in the McBribe I believe so having another one would be great to have more goalie recognition. I also think that we should allow for alternate goalies shine more as I know it must be hard not being able to play much on the ice. I think the most appropriate name for this award would be the Mike Hroch award as Mike Hroch of the New England Wolfpack played out of his mind as an alternate goalie this season with a stat line of 10 W (going undefeated), 4 SO, 0.7 GAA, and a save percent of 0.958 %. Mike Hroch is also of course the player I feel would win this award this season.

a. Who is the best player in this CC finals? Plenty of good candidates: Lagerfield, Phelps, Kryyst, McIntry, Pepperoni, Scholz, etc.
Explain your choices.
d. Blizzard... snow... ok debate time - do you like snow? yes or no? why or why not?

a. Flacko Lagerfield for sure. Flacko Lagerfield is probably an easy answer but it's hard to ignore a player that had such a monstrous regular season with 71 points that consist up of 34 goals and 37 assist, especially when no one saw it coming as they were suppose to be past their prime.
b. I feel HAM has the advantage in the physical category with their balance and strength. We all know HAM is all about optimizing stats and I think that the fact that they are leading in two stats such as balance and strength should say something to the rest of the league that that's the superior physical attribute.
c. F - Flacko Lagerfield | Veteran player with a ton of experience and has shown to still be an offensive monster on the ice
F - Tony Pepperoni | One of the best players in the league with their incredible two way forward play
F - Aaron Wilson | Incredible player that is still looking to grow and has proven to be a valuable piece on the offensive line for HAM
D - Gabriel Johnson | Breakout player this year on HAM defensive line
D -  Karlstrasse Scholz | Offensive d-man with 41 points on the season
G - Geezus Kryyst | Arguable the best goalie in the league this season
d. Yes I absolutely love snow. I think it's a bit of a nostalgia thing as when I was a kid those were my favorite days as usually my parents would take me and my sister to go sledding or just have a fun day in the snow. It's also the days that cancelled school and that's always great.

In an alternate universe, we saw Toronto face off against Texas in the finals. Brusky led his Renegades with a plus-52 +/- rating in one of the most dominant seasons by a defender in league history, as Texas went 44-6 during the regular season. Toronto was led by young star Mika Kandinsky as they breezed through the regular season going 50-0 for the first undefeated season in the SHL. Once Toronto and Texas squared off in the finals, Texas turned on the gas and swept Toronto in 4 games, outscoring them 33-1. The one goal that they scored was an own-goal by Renegades goalie White Goodman, as he put the puck in his own net when he began to celebrate their cup victory with 13 seconds left on the clock. Texas celebrated their victory in truly Texan fashion, with a steak dinner at a rodeo in downtown Dallas. GM Dan the man was found passed out in a nearby motel with a hooker on each arm and 16 empty bottles of miller lite strewn about the room.

Which player from the Steelhawks or the Blizzard would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

Tony Pepperoni, hands down. I've been in the SHL for just under a year now, and I swear this guy has been one of the best players in the league every single season. He's always one of the top scoring guys on his team (a team that seems to make deep runs in the postseason more often than not, and I'm willing to bet that mr. Pepperoni has a lot to do with that). It'd be no surprise if this guy pulled out an MVP or two still in his career. Hell, he seems like a pretty stand up fella too so he might even take home an award for his personality off the ice too.

Now that takeaways and giveaways are recorded by the engine, I'd like to see an award or two revolving around that. Maybe an award for each actually. The person with the most takeaways at the end of the season would be granted an award to show how significant of a threat they were without the puck when it comes to taking it away from the opposing team. More interestingly though I think would be an award for the player that had the most turnovers. You could call it "The Liability" or something along those lines. It would easily become one of the least sought after awards in the league and everybody would ridicule the yearly winner of the award. Yet, despite the notoriety that would surely surround it, it would become a fan favorite instantly. You'd always remember who the previous winner was while most of the current awards are forgotten about instantly (if you even paid attention to who won them in the first place).

I haven't ran the calculations, but if I had a listing of what the average TPE per each IIHF team was, I'd pick which ever team had the highest average. FHM doesn't mess around when it comes to simulating games, and a majority of the time it feels like the better team will win. This will probably change as more GMs learn how to manage a team in FHM and how to better strategy, coming up with the ideal tactics for each game, etc. But until then, I'm going to always put my money down on the highest rated team. That being said, I don't know who that team is right now and instead I'll choose to predict that Germany will win the gold this year. Last season we had an excellent round robin but were upset in the first round of the elimination bracket. That won't happen this time around, you can count on that.

Come up with a program of intermission entertainment for one of the games of the finals. What's the between-period on-ice entertainment the fans will enjoy? The goofier the better, go crazy.

Everybody knows that the best intermission event is human bowling. There's nothing better than slinging a human on a sled at max speed down the length of the ice in an attempt to bash a couple of pins over with their body, leading with their head. But what if you launched two competitors directly at each other instead of aiming for a couple of boring pins? That's right, we're talking about human ice sled jousting. Line up your two competitors at opposing goal lines, fully cocked with the slings from center ice, and release the hounds. The two players will hurtle towards each other at full speed, ideally colliding head first at center ice. If one of the sledders decides to jump ship and bail before the collision, that player forfeits the game and loses. If both players stay on course and collide, the referee will determine if both players are still able to compete. If one player is deemed to have a concussion, he will be counted as ineligible and lose the match. This will play on for three rounds. If both players survive all three rounds, the fans will vote on a winner based on style and punishment delivered during their three runs.

6. Half-Time. A time for most hockey fans to go to the bathroom or get more beer. For other fans, it is time of boredom and discontent. Picture it, a lone hockey rink in the Great Northeast, host to the SMJHL Finals. As half-time begins, the stadium lights go down and a hush of wonder falls over the crowd. Suddenly the arena is filled with thunderous fanfare. Fans desperately strain to see what is going on through the blackness. A murmur races through the crowd as fans wonder what could be happening. Suddenly a spotlight cuts through the dark to shine on the tunnel entrance at either end of the arena. A deep rumble begins to sound from the tunnels. Soon the rumble turns into the sounds of engines being revved. The crowd is on the edges of their seats, riveted on the tunnels. Suddenly from out of the tunnels, two Zamboni’s emerge sporting the colors of the playoff teams. They begin to circle the ice for all to see. Once they have made a full turn around the ice, they turn to face each other. From out of the tunnels comes someone carrying long wooden poles. “Could it be?”, the fans wonder. Yes, it is! My alternate universe, much like the alternate universe i wrote about last year, is still the universe in which i earn the max about of TPE from my predictions. In this i believe New England would have won the series in 5 games against either Edmonton or Calgary. Ola Wagstrom, Slap Mcshooty, and Eko Van Otter would lead their team like he did in the regular season. But if this universe started with both Ham and EDM in the finals then it would be HAM in 5 with Flacko Lagerfeld and Tony Pepperoni Leading their respective teams in points. Finally we have my most outlandish universe in which magically Texas made it to the finals and swept WKP which is now BAP in 4 games with each game being 5+ to 0 shutouts. Andreas Kvalheim would lead us in points with over 2 PPG and White Goodman would easily carry us with 100% save percentage and 0 GAA

During the intermission of game 3 of the finals the Edmonton Blizzard have a few mini games for some select few to play. The first one is a competition in which a few people (who have signed waivers releasing Edmonton from any liability) compete in escaping from being put underneath a large pile of snow. Of the two people competing of course the Edmonton fan beats the Hamilton fan( who is definitely not planted by the team). During the second intermission in honor of the Sheel Hawks favorite past time of shooting, they have set up virtual duck hunt game around the arena where fans can be just like the pro's and Shoot Shoot Shoot Shoot Shoot. Also one of the interns hacked all the consols and replaces the ducks with steel hawks, which some of the visiting Hamilton fans were not happy about. but all in all the fans seemed to enjoy it and have petitioned to keep them their permanently so they can play that instead of watching their team lose

d. Blizzard... snow... ok debate time - do you like snow? yes or no? why or why not?

A. The best player by car is Tony Pepperoni. and not just because he is a top point scorer for his team, but becasue he has the best name. And this is for a few reasons, 1 His name Rhymes, not to many people can say that. And 2 pepperoni is by far the best pizza topping, now controversially ill say that ham and pineapple or "Hawaiian" is the best pizza overall. when looking individually and a single topping Pepperoni is the best.

B. Given that i am writing this after the series is over i am going to have to say that Hamiltons Balance and Strength are the superior physical skills in this match up. speed and accelleration are all fine and dandy if for staying away from the enemy team, but when they have the puck speed isnt going to help you overcome their balance and strength. also the rink is rather small and there are 5 of them, i don't think you can skate away from them for to long.

C. Ideal fantasy team. LW Flacko Lagerfield, he lead the league in points and can both pass and shoot. C Toni Pepperoni has the highest TPE in this matchup and lead his team in points during the regular season. RW Hugh Jazz for the sole reason that his name kinda sounds like Huge Ass and we all like big butts and can not lie. LD Tor Tuck becasue he is good and on Norway with me, and RD will be Samuel Michaud for the same reason as Tuck, it would have been Tig Murphy, but he just GM'd Detroit to beat Kelowna in the SMJHL finals and i dont like him for that

D. Yes i like snow. I dont know how im going to write 50 words about liking snow. Lets see, i like snow becasue snow is cold, and Ice rinks are cold, Ice Hockey is played on Ice rinks, I Like playing Ice Hockey, so therfor i must like snow by default
