2. Do you like the new format? Why or why not?
If you’re referring to this new offseason format, this is literally the first time I’m doing it. I’ve had an offseason pass the last 17 seasons, so I’m out of rhythm on this stuff! I think generally it’s a good idea to split up CW and this one, as people are in a habit of doing things weekly.

Oh, were you asking about the new All Star Game format? Yeah, I don’t care. It doesn’t really matter to the site, so I don’t pay it much mind. I think the inclusion of the random ass retired players is silly and excluded absolutely deserving players (ahem JAY BRYZI) from recognition they absolutely earned.

6. Who do you think should be captain of each team? Why?
It’s hard to argue with some of the best to ever do it, right? Bojo Biscuit, Jason Visser, Aaron Wilson, and Esa Anrikkanen are all time greats from the league, so they are a natural fit to captain these teams. Would I rather us not have the HOFers? Yes, but if we’re stuck with them, might as well cart the elders out for a symbolic but ultimately empty honor like ASG captain. If we limit ourselves to actives, with the season that’s been, I think Jae-ik Barron (ATL), Chris Valentin (CTL), Jarrod Lakemore (NTH), and Elena Maximova (PCF) are natural choices.

Tell me about your teammate who made the all star expo! Who are they, why were they an obvious choice to make the All Star roster, and what do you expect from them this ASE? I welcome the chance to brag about my teammate, Philip Fry! While even he was surprised to see him named to the All Star Game, he absolutely deserves it. For a lot of his career, he’s been overlooked compared to some higher scoring options on other teams. He’s been our rock in Baltimore, holding down a top 2/3 dman spot since his rookie season, playing hard minutes in all situations. This year was a bounce back for him after taking on a more defensive role in S79. Overall, the team is better with Fry on the ice, reflected by his defensive metrics. Set up teammates, block shots, play in all situations—what else would you want from an All Star? NOTHING!

I miss you and Baba very much. After I finish training and the international tournament, I will fly home for some time to spend with you. I was thinking we could surprise iya-mi Ade with a visit to Lagos. I know she loves the festivals! Maybe that will delay her asking me about finding a wife!

When I’m home, it sadly won’t be all pleasure. I will have some meetings with the charity administrators about how the youth tournaments are going, and if they need anything from me. Please believe every moment I can spend with the family, I plan to. I have had a very busy few years, and understand your unwillingness to come live with me in America.

4. Which of the teams can field the best first line, first pair or goalie tandem? What makes them the best?

Okay, just freaking LOOK at team Atlantic. Yeah, the Atlantic did not win the cup (sad!), but when you look at the entire division as a whole? This team is going to absolutely wipe the floor in this All Star Week. Half of the team is from the President's Trophy winning Atlanta Inferno, filled with Philly Forge and Tampa Bay Barracuda players and a sprinkle of the other teams? Come on man, this team can not only put out the best first line, but the best team up and down without a doubt. It should certainly be a fun time to watch regardless.

I mean, who do I even focus on for the pick? It seems like half of the Atlantic Division team is from the Atlanta Inferno. We have Jae-Ik Barron, Jiggle E Puff, Billy Herrington, Georg N'Zola, and Stun Gun. It's a shame not to see Kristian Seppanen in there, though I do understand he was only SO good because of his insane amount of blocked shots. But yeah, Jae-Ik Barron is one of the most deserving all stars the Atlanta Inferno have ever seen. 10 more points than the person who came in second, nearly TWENTY more goals than the person who came in second. Two goals shy from a goal per freaking game. That is insane. Look, while the Atlanta Inferno did not win the cup, to see all of the incredibly deserving members of this locker room having made the All Star team, I know that it is only a matter of time.

1. S80 SMJHL Milestones - 3 TPE

3. I think, if you REALLY wanted to get spicy with an All-Star Format, you could do a 3v3 All-Star tournament. 3 players from each team (plus a goalie from their team, obviously), and then run expo days where each team plays every team once, and then a sudden death elimination tournament to crown a winner. 5 minute periods, 3 periods each game, winner takes all. This kind of format would also allow for more representation from every team, which is something that I am absolutely in favour of. You could also use this format to expand the All-Star event into a whole weekend of fun for everyone, and I think this could definitely become something that each team could look forward to competing in. This format would also expand each all-star team by giving recognition to each teams' selected coach, you could have an all-star coach line up as well. (150 words)

5. I think the most unexpected players participating in the event are the more "depth" players representing the same teams. While I do understand that they all had fantastic seasons, and I am 100% not here to say they aren't deserving of being all-stars, I do find myself wishing for more representation from each team. 5 Quebec players and 5 Maine players feels like too many players from the same team, and I am also of the opinion that there are a lot of players on "bad" teams that had good individual seasons. Take a Jeffrey Bjelland in Detroit, a Jackass Pants in Great Falls, a Puddles O'Duckling in Thunder Bay (this is also me avoiding picking Vancouver players, because I also think that Florence-Amelie Mackenzie was deserving of an all-star spot). These are all players that had fantastic seasons on teams who didn't, and who get a lot of the credit for their teams not having worse seasons than they did. (161 words)

I think it’s pretty cool to expand the format so that rather than an east west kind of like with the NHL has done we’ve gone and made a divisional, expanding the tournament slightly and making it a bit more of a fun festivity deal. I think the idea of bringing on former players in general would be pretty sweet. It’s really cool to see it. Be Hall of Famer many of which didn’t play FHM. I’m sure some have And being able to sort of legacy build. It would be very entertaining I think. Extending the All Star game as a whole is a lot more fun than just a one off game like in the past.

3. What would you do to spice up the new All-star format even further?

If I could make some suggestions, it would be maybe seeing certain all team players aren’t exactly all stars or Hall of Famer maybe one day get some recognition whether that could be as a way to sort of spice up Some of the teams toward the bottom end of the barrel who might only submit one maybe two players because they finish last in their division could be a nice way to sort of you know given nod and make them still feel kind of special maybe having a contest to do up the jerseys within the Graphic department much in the same way many of the other graphics contests are run. Could also see another way to engage things. A further avenue one could take to spice things up would be to name the divisional team after the player voted as the captain. Said captain’s role could be further fleshed out by having the option to run lines/tactics or leave things as best lines..

Dear Cyrus,

I'm gonna be taking off for about the next three weeks. It's the off-season, so I'm going to be flying over to Austraiia and surfing. Make sure that you're a good kitty. I've set up your feeders and hired some servants to come over and tend to your litter box. Make sure that the other creatures living around the house stay in line. You have purrmission to swat a fool of needed. As for me, I'll be surfing a bit in Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii so should be a fun time. I'll try to remember to get one of those cat nip shells that they sell in Hawaii that I brought back from the last trip. The waves are supposed to be great for the entire trip. There's a few spots that I'll be surfing at in New Zealand that I've never even heard of, but some of the locals showed me some photos that looked incredible. Apparently these spots are so guarded that people were risking being banished from the island just for possessing these photos. Remember, the birds are our friends, if you somehow escape outside, do not catch the birds! I'll be back before you notice I'm gone probably. I've left Futurama on repeat for you. Have a great time!

We're going to bring back a few legends who spent time with the Los Angeles Panthers to represent the team from the west.

F - Brian Morley - Already a legend when I first joined the SHL, Brian Morley was one of the very best goal scorers of his generation. It would be cool to see what he could do against today's stars.

D - Toivo Kosonen - a player who joined the Panthers in the prime of his career, Kosonen was an incredible two-way defenseman who would fit right in with today's SHL superstars.

D - Jon Toner - A draft day steal, Toner was an incredible defenseman for the Panthers who had a Hall of Fame career. Toner would no doubt be fun to watch in the round robin style tournament.

6. For ATL I'd choose Max Carnage cause they've been a very good player for a longer time now and I think they deserve it the most. For CTL I might be biased on this one but I'd choose Nike cause like who wouldn't choose him for captian? For NTH I'd go for Pyro cause I'm biased no but seriously I think pyro is one of the up and coming good players so might as well give it to him already. And for PCF I'd choose Willow Soderberg-Snooks cause honestly I looked at the list and only recognized Willow Soderberg-Snooks name xD, so for that I choose them!

2. I do like the new all star game format, and I really like that the site is full of users who will work hard to come up with new ideas and ways to bring more interest into parts of the site that might have been getting less attention. I think the 4 division teams is a great touch, and will be familiar for everyone who watches the NHL all star game weekend. And I really like the idea of bringing back some of the all-time great players. It was fun to see the names of some of the greatest players in SHL history; a few of which were dominating when I first created on the site, brought back a sense of SHL nostalgia.

3. While I still think the new format is a great idea and fun way of mixing it up, I do have some thoughts on the format. I know that "too many users getting honored" is a ridiculous concern, but it will double the amount of all star players. I'm not sure if anyone actually gives a lot of merit to all stars when considering things like HoF, etc, but if we double the amount of all star players moving forward it might make them weigh less in those decisions. I think it would've been awesome to have this format be in a 3-3 tournament, but FHM is limited. Or maybe just 2 lines for each conference would've worked? I also think that for immersion sake, it's kind of funny to mix the historical greats right in with the teams. Like canonically wouldn't some of them be like 100 years old? I think it would've been awesome to see a full east vs. west alumni game on display instead. Either way though I really like the format, and the round robin can allow for an 'all star weekend' MVP rather than just 'all star game' MVP.
