S53 Championship Week

With everyone getting a free redistribution this offseason, S54 is quite wide open at the moment. Before those redistributions take place, who would you anticipate being the top team(s) for next season?

Honestly, I don't necessarily expect to see a ton of movement at the top of the table, most of the top teams from this season are likely to remain there. The same is likely true for the bottom-feeders as well, I don't think anyone was completely sewered by builds so badly that it led to them being a lottery team. Where I think the most interesting changes will be are the middle ground and bubble teams. Lots of teams will have a season of knowledge to use (or learn nothing from) and tweak their rosters and builds for the coming year. It's certainly likely that a couple of these could push towards joining the top few teams in the league, especially if they were already a fairly young team as is. Also possible is a scenario where a team places too much faith in copying successful builds while neglecting the tactical side of why those builds were successful, leading to another ok but overall mediocre season.

Which player from the Steelhawks or the Blizzard would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

I think it's exceedingly likely that when all is said and done, Samuel Michaud @golden_apricot will bring home a Bojo Biscuit award as the top defensive defenseman in the SHL. He's one of the top earners in his class, already over 100 TPE, and has been a factor on two cup winning teams at a young age. He's only improving and his immense impact can already be seen by the fact that he carried Gabriel Johnson to a resoundingly successful season, which should theoretically be impossible. Michaud drives defensive results and is just entering the heart of his career now. When all is said and done, he could be remembered as one of the better defensive defenders in league history.

Just like everything else in S53, IIHF is going to be an exciting mystery for us all! We've seen the introduction of a new format (all 14 teams in one group) and it's bound to be a very exciting tournament. What are your predictions for IIHF this season? What team or teams do you think have the best shot at taking home the gold? How do you think your team will fare?

I think the teams to beat are likely Canada or the US. They're both powerhouses, with Canada in particular being on the upswing with some young players finally hitting their stride. The other exciting part is that both groups look as though they will have an absolute dogfight for the 4th spot in each group, meaning that each game carries a ton of meaning for some of the less powerful nations. If you get into the quarterfinals, you're never completely out of it - but you have to get there first. I'm biased but I'm feeling good about Ireland's chances to catch the 4th place spot in our group. We're not nearly as strong as we were in the previous decade but we still have talent and can hang in with the big dogs. If I had to predict a winner it would likely be Canada, but there are a ton of teams with crazy depth so it could go any number of ways. The results could literally come down to a single game determining the seeding that paves the way for a team to go all the way or lose out early.

Even though the Panthers fell short this season, the LA influence has been felt around the league and execs in Hollywood are paying more attention to the SHL with the hometown team making waves. If your player could have a cameo in any tv show or movie, what show/movie would they choose? (for the purposes of this PT you may choose a show/movie that already exists just uhhh pretend they re-shoot it with your cameo or something idk).

This one's easy, I would definitely appear in a hockey themed Muppets movie. Perhaps I would be the only human player on the team and it could be similar to Space Jam. Kermit and Fozzy Bear would be my linemates and our line would be called the Rainbow Connection. In this scenario, I would imagine that the Muppets are getting absolutely rinsed by another hockey team because they've never played hockey before and also because they are puppets. I would be able to step in as a now two-time Challenge Cup Champion and show them the way. It would start with the back-end out. I'd have to teach Animal to channel his inner rage and Pepe the Prawn that undersized defenders have a place in the game. Gonzo would of course be the fourth line winger everyone is scared of (on account of all the chicken fucking), and Rolf would naturally be the big powerforward up front that drives goalies insane with screening. Statler and Waldorf would be the assistant coaches on the bench and would mock the Muppets into playing better. This actually sounds amazing, I'm emailing Netflix brb

a. Who is the best player in this CC finals? Plenty of good candidates: Lagerfield, Phelps, Kryyst, McIntry, Pepperoni, Scholz, etc. Who's your choice for best player and why?

Come on hotdog I won a Stevens literally a season ago and I don't even make the shortlist >:(

b. Based on player ratings, EDM has the advantage in speed and acceleration and HAM has the advantage in balance and strength. Which team's physical skills will give them the edge in this series?

I think Hamilton's gave them an advantage, mostly because I don't think Hamilton's skating game was poor by any means. Part of the reason the Steelhawks were so good this year was goal suppression, and that starts with play all over the ice. Being able to control the puck or win puck battles prevents shots against, and when a puck is jammed against the wall it doesn't matter how fast a guy is. Being the team that was able to win more of those 50/50 puck battles gave Hamilton an edge in the series.

c. Assemble your ideal fantasy team out of players in this series - F, F, F, D, D, G. Explain your choices.

Tony-Pepperoni - Aaron Wilson - Flacko Lagerfield
Tig Murphy - Brady McIntyre
Geezus Kryyst

This lineup gives you everything you need. You have an absolutely bananas amount of offensive firepower up front, but three forwards who know their way around the defensive zone as well. Murphy and McIntyre are two extremely solid defenders on both sides of the puck that can facilitate puck movement while stifling the other team defensively. Then you have, for my money, the best goalie in the league in Geezus Kryyst who has absolutely carried Hamilton to two cups in three seasons.

d. Blizzard... snow... ok debate time - do you like snow? yes or no? why or why not?

I think people like the concept of snow because of what it represents - the holidays, spent with family, associations with major holidays, being out of school, hot cocoa, the list goes on and on. People absolutely adore the idea of snow because it takes them back to a simpler time. However, the reality of snow sucks and everyone who disagrees is wrong. It causes traffic to become a shitshow because no one knows how to drive in it. It shuts things down, causes power outages, and just generally inconveniences you ESPECIALLY when it snows but not enough so that you get to stay home from school or work. From a practical standpoint snow sucks, even if there's something calming about the atmosphere of wintertime.

With everyone getting a free redistribution this offseason, S54 is quite wide open at the moment. Before those redistributions take place, who would you anticipate being the top team(s) for next season?

I think there are two consensus teams that are going to be at the top of the league, just like they were this season. Hamilton and New England are going to be juggernauts for at least the next few seasons, both for different reasons. Hamilton is a tactical powerhouse, with their front office team really understanding the intricacies of the sim engine to squeeze out every last bit of performance from their team. The only way they would start to fall in the standings is if their advantage gets nullified by other teams acquiring more experience with the sim engine, which is likely to happen but maybe not in the second season of FHM. New England is a TPE powerhouse, with giants like Ola Wagstrom and Rex Kirkby, and soon-to-be superstars like Eko van Otter, Guy Zheng, Dick Clapper, and Slap McShotty. Now, with New England's addition of Benjamine Blue in net, there's nothing stopping them from repeating their president's trophy regular season run in S54.

Gabriel @Gwdjohnson "Gone Wild" Johnson is definitely going to win the Stevens one day. Given his stellar S53 season, he might even be able to steal a nomination this season. This man lives and breathes SHL, and nothing is going to stand in the way of him and his TPE. Given he's already on the best team for harnessing his player's full potential in the simulation engine, it's only a matter of time before GoneWild himself brings home some serious hardware. I'd say he probably has two or three seasons to go before that point though -- he'll need to secure his place on the top pairing for Hamilton first.

With new tools at our disposal in FHM, we may eventually see some new awards enter the fold. Create a suggestion for a new SHL award. What kind of achievement is the award given for? Who's the award named after? Who would've won the award this season?

Since the Dar should technically be awarded to the best two-way forward, even though it's traditionally a power forward award, I believe we should separate these two concepts. The Dar should stay as the best two-way forward award, akin to the NHL's Selke Trophy, with advanced stat darlings and unselfish, underrated players consistently winning the award. For power forwards, we should create a new award, named after the (almost) late, great, Cameron Carter II. This man re-defined what it meant to be a power forward, breaking the hits record in EHM while simultaneously running up the scoreboard with his incredible offensive skills. He may be the best power forward in the history of the SHL (aside from maybe Mike Izzy), so I believe this new power forward award would be aptly named if it were named after the GOAT himself. This season, I believe Nick Brain would be high up on the list for contenders for the CC2 award -- what a beast of a player that truly reminds me of Jodan himself.

Since I don't want to dwell on the negatives, or single out certain teams for having rosters that are surely going to crumble in the FHM era, I am going to focus on the teams that I think will do well. The top two teams on this list are no-brainers, and that's the United States and Canada. These two teams not only have near-elite players in every position, but more importantly they have the best depth in the entire tournament. In a sim engine that greatly rewards depth, these two teams are likely already locked in for the top 2 spots. Out of these two teams, I would give the edge to the US because of their superior goal-tending and high-end talent. As for other teams, I believe Team GB are firmly in third place in the power rankings -- not only are they a defensive powerhouse (8? defensemen above 1.3k TPE), but their forwards are also (for the most part) built to FHM specification. They will be the most defensively responsible team in the tournament, and that style of play might just bring a few upsets.

Come up with a program of intermission entertainment for one of the games of the finals. What's the between-period on-ice entertainment the fans will enjoy? The goofier the better, go crazy.

During the intermission for the first game of the series, I believe the home team should have a dog race on the ice with the dogs of players on the team. Not only is this a very fun way to pass the time, but it's also an incredibly easy way to hype up the crowd during the intermission when they would otherwise be going to the bathroom or waiting in line at the concession stands trying to buy another @hotdog. That being said, because everyone's going to be glued to their seats during the intermission for this event, and since the dog race will likely be more exciting than the game itself, sales are probably going to go down because people won't be as willing to leave their seats to buy things, and people are likely to start getting up and going to the bathroom in the middle of the period after the race because they weren't able to go during the intermission, resulting in general annoyance among other people who are sitting near them.

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S53 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?
Of the many realities that existed, there was one that people realistically expected to happen: Toronto making the playoffs San Francisco winning their division. Before the season, many predicted that San Francisco, with the recent addition of Piotr Czerkawski, would top their division over the likes of New Orleans and Los Angeles. Instead, Los Angeles ran away with the division while San Francisco and New Orleans battled until the bitter end for the final playoff spot in the West. In this alternate reality, it was Los Angeles and New Orleans battling until the end, with Los Angeles sliding in over those who practice voodoo. With no playoff chances to mess with lines, New Orleans doesn't get punished. Well, Charlie Serpe still does, but the team doesn't lose a draft pick and cap room. TheDangaZone, without the stress of the punishments, stays on board for one more season. In the offseason, Czerkawski comes back for one final rodeo with the Specters, and New Orleans finds themselves on the list of true contenders in the upcoming season. Hamilton still wins the Challenge Cup, and with no New Orleans punishment to distract the userbase, the days of Simon aren't forgotten.

With everyone getting a free redistribution this offseason, S54 is quite wide open at the moment. Before those redistributions take place, who would you anticipate being the top team(s) for next season?
Before, and after, re-distributions, a few teams made the moves to either cement themselves as contenders or push themselves into the upper echelon of teams heading into S54. New England, despite making the Challenge Cup Finals, improved at their weakest position: goalie. While they still have their goalie of the future in the pipeline, they upgraded from an aging Johannes Leitner to a slightly stronger Benjamin Blue. Blue isn't a long term answer, but for their short-term aspirations, Blue brings a more consistent netfront presence to a team that desperately needs it. Out in the West, the New Orleans Specters managed to bring in a veteran presence without mortgaging their future when they traded for Olivier Cloutier. With a top six that now consists of Lil' Manius, Nicholas Williams, Jimmy Slothface, Mika Mayfield, Oliier Cloutier, and Michael Fox, this is an offense that should see a massive improvement over the previous season. With an improving defensive core and the strongest goalie in the league returning (yes, I said it, Aleister Cain is the strongest goalie in the league), New Orleans should be able to contend with anyone in the league next season without struggle.

FHM has proven that stronger all around teams will perform more consistently and more dominant than in the era of SimonT. After seeing how the previous season played out and the emergence of New England as a top contender, the only true prediction anyone can make is that nations like the United States and Canada will have a more dominant showing than in the previous era. In the preliminary round, we saw the United States go 7-0, including a 4-3 win over Team Canada. Objectively speaking, this will be the team to watch. Not only do they have the deepest forward core of any nation, they also have rostered the strongest starting goalie in the SHL and one of the best up-and-coming goalie prospects in Strom Chamberlain. My prediction is that we will see the first United States-Canada final in some time, with the United States bringing home the gold in a narrow victory over their neighbors up north.

d. Blizzard... snow... ok debate time - do you like snow? yes or no? why or why not?
a) The popular pick here is obviously going to be Flacko Lagerfield after he put up 71 points in the regular season. However, the best player from this finals quite obviously is Tony Pepperoni. Pepperoni is an offensive threat to be feared puttig up over a point per game in the regular season himself. The deciding factor here is Pepperoni's defensive game, which is much more well balanced than Lagerfield.
b) Before the series, I would have said that Edmonton's advantage with their higher speed and acceleration would prevail over Hamilton's advantage in balance and strength. However, I was proven wrong as Hamilton took the series over Edmonton. Well, I think I know what I'm putting TPE into moving into the next season..
c)F - Tony Pepperoni
F - Flacko Lagerfield
F - Julio Tokolosh
D - Tig Murphy
D - Gabriel Johnson
G - Hamilton

Honestly, it pained me to make these picks, but in an effort to "win" whatever fantasy league I was doing, these would be my picks. Pepperoni and Lagerfield are two of the top fantasy picks regardless of constraints, and Tig/Gabe are two sturdy defenders in their own right. Hamilton goalies also outperformed Edmonton goalies, so objectively speaking these weren't hard to come up with. Just....yeah.
d) I've had the privilege of living in the mountains, the beach, and inbetween. I can definitively say that I love the snow, driving excluded. I love snowboarding and cold days and watching it snow outside the window as I'm doing things inside. I love the days off and the holidays that happen when snow is expected.

1. The multiverse is an infinite expanse of possibility. All things are true, somewhere. In that spirit, allow me to lift the veil before your eyes and make clear why the Dragons rule.

Season fifty three unfolded like so many seasons before it, with the Calgary Dragons making the Challenge Cup finals. Going up against their long time nemesis the Buffalo Stampede, the series promised to be one to remember. Bettors favored the Stampede going into the series. However they were unaware of the determination and focus of all star defenseman Otis B. Driftwood.

Otis B. Driftwood was not about to lose to a team from the armpit of New York State. Chicken wings do not a city make. Let’s face it, Buffalo is a dank cesspit of decrepitude and squalor. The Bills losing in four straight Super Bowls is about the best thing that ever happened to that town. They hang their hats on a bunch of losers.

Anyway, long story short, the Calgary Dragons kicked the ever living shit out of the Buffalo Stampede and everyone lived happily ever after.

2. The top teams will largely be the same as this past season, I would think.

I certainly expect Calgary to be at or near the top of the West. We have excellent depth up and down the lines. We have a ton of tpe and experienced users. We are motivated and active. Esa and Mike Izzy are smart gms’s willing to take some chances.

Edmonton will be excellent again. They have so much talent throughout their lineup. Their stars are household names at this point.

The Los Angeles Panthers have proven themselves to be top contenders. Wasty and JT are excellent managers. Mook is running their lines with great results.

In the East, I am sure the villainous and dastardly Hamilton Steelhawks will find a way to manipulate the sim enough to be successful. Recently of course, they came to the realization they could never be good or even decent without cheating and gross manipulation of the sim. They have since gone about tearing the league down to it’s foundation and rebuilding it in an image they were comfortable with. Cheating is the Hamilton way after all.

4. My new award would be called the Stevens award. It would be awarded to the best defenseman in the league. You may think this award already exists in the SHL. You would, however, be wrong. The award we have now, judging by who wins it most years, is entirely an offensive award for defensemen, which is completely idiotic. The Stevens award as it exists now is given to the defenseman with the most points at the end of a given season. Why is the defenseman award given to the top point scorer you ask? Because the awards committee are a bunch of morons, that’s why.

Some dipshit thought it would be a good idea to create a new award. Thus the Bojo Biscuit award for best defensive defenseman was born. This is like an award for the wettest water or the sweetest sugar. While I loved my old teammate Bojo Biscuit and have no problem with an award named after him, this is just a travesty and something we as a league should be ashamed of.

1. It is another year, another Dragons win. The season has concluded due to another vote by the council to just award the Dragons with a win. Most of the attention has been paid to the off season and the formation of the international hockey game. The international game has been much closer as it is not filled with all of the worlds best robots all on one team. The Czech and Austria rivalry has turned hostile and there has been a small war started between the two nations in order to resolve the on ice battles off ice. The drug trade has completely died and cocaine is no longer allowed, again. There Has definitely been no more usage, and everyone has been going slowly insane and the violence has slowly increased to a boiling point, where everyone is hooking. Tv ratings have had a 12% increase in the seasons leading into this.

2.I fully expect Manhattan to be back at the top of the league and destroying the league in no time. The main reason? The czech core, namely David Vent are some of the most veracious active members in the entire league. There is a serious amount of hunger on a cup winning team that was able to keep its core together and with the new rules have a good chance to run deep and with a better understanding of the new system in place they are someone to consider themselves dangerous with the rightful intent. Another team to see at the top is Calgary. Calgary is fully of literal chad gods who want nothing more than to win in the new system. Hungrier than ever, the Dragons are in a good spot to get all the tpe and there is a certain feeling going around the locker room that there is a good chance for the next run.

3. Connor Tanner is absolutely a stud in the making and is definitely going to get an award in the not too distant future. The amount of points that are going to be scored by this human wrecking ball is the most amazing thing one could think about. He loves scoring. He loves getting points. And as such, I have no doubt that this young stud will absolutely be winning scoring titles in no time whatsoever. There is no title out of his reach in all honesty. I would bet a lot of money on this and I would happily buy Connor some dinners after he makes me a payday.

4. The David Vent award. This award goes to someone who is just the greatest player on the site at any given. The people who get this award, after David Vent sweeps the category as long as he is active on the sight. The award is designed to highlight site participation as well as just being an all award good guy. David Vent, also known as Im Shiny is a gem of a human being that also happens to be a jedi in training and an overall great guy. The work that he has done for the team of Manhattan is otherworldly. All of the czechs that i deal with on a daily basis do nothing but sing the praises of Shiny, and Vent is the exact kind of person that an award should be made for and in order to highlight and have a star that transcends reality the nature of the game.

14. I personally believe that Connor Tanner is mvp of the series. It can easily be said how he was everywhere over the ice and was a key factor in all of the plays that are part of the series. He was an amazing sight to behold and his team was lucky to have him in the key moments. It was a great series by Hamilton, but to me the most important and impressive plays that came from a player of his caliber were any of the plays that were developed by Connor Tanner and his linemates were definitely glad to be on the same line as him.

In an alternative reality, the Simulation Hockey League Challenge Cup Playoffs for the 53rd Season have been fantastically altered in a way no one could have expected. A global pandemic struck in the beginning of the first round, resulting in the entirety of every team performing in the playoffs needing to be critically relocated to another location. In this transition there was a fiasco regarding the swapping of two teams’ equipment, the Buffalo Stampede and the Hamilton Steelhawks. There was a huge concern that the equipment was going to be tampered with, that some sort of skate would be dulled, laces stolen, sticks broken, or any sort of other terrible mishap with the most absolutely holy and sacred equipment of another team. However, thankfully, there was no such issue arising from the fiasco of swapped equipment. Playoffs continued as they did in many other alternative realities where things continued as normal from the beginning.

I, Joseph Weston of the Calgary Dragons, would be surprised if this free redistribution did anything to radically shakeup the result of the Season 54 regular season or playoffs. Despite the season being “quite wide open at the moment”, as claimed in the prompt, the season prior, the Season 53 regular season, was also regarded widely to be “quite wide open at the moment”, to use the original prompt’s quote again. At the beginning of the Franchise Hockey Manager 6 era for the Simulation Hockey League, every team and player were given the opportunity to redistribute their attributes to build a player however they want. This means most teams should already have a good idea of how their players are built, and the odds of people already needing to radically alter their attributes is much lower than some may assume. It would be an entirely surprising circumstance if a team somehow managed to radically change all of their player attributes to take advantage of the information gained in one single season.

The International Ice Hockey Federation tournament is going to be an interesting time, to say the least. In the new Franchise Hockey Manager 6 era facing the Simulation Hockey League, there are going to be quite a few changes. The new format introduced for the International Ice Hockey Federation tournament means that all 14 teams have to face off against one another, and should help minimize the concerns people have of numerous strong teams being placed in one group together and minimizing a strong team’s chance to succeed. I think that transfers are still going to be critical, but minimized team rosters is a bit concerning as it reduces the chance of people to play for the team they truly desire on the international stage. I think the United States of America will still remain a strong team, but other smaller national teams will gain the boon of being able to pull players in a much easier manner.

The arena in Hamilton certainly does not need any gimmick to get people into the stands to fill their seats for this dedicated team and fanbase. Their team is hot, their goals are good, there’s a whole lot to be played for on and off the ice. There still needs to be a program of intermission entertainment to keep people hyped up for the serious and monumental events occuring in the arena, however. To this effort the lights and sounds crew in the arena has developed a hybrid projection and holographic system to be utilized between the seats and aisles around the arena during stoppages, pauses, timeouts, and intermissions. This setup will flood the arena in a light blue light that will simulate being up in the sky, the natural habitat of a steelhawk. Various events can be utilized or simulated simultaneously with this setup, such as storms, flights of birds, or other sorts of visuals to hype up the crowd.

Snow is nice. It covers the ground ever so cleanly and makes everything outside appear peaceful. I will fully admit that snow is a pain and frustration to deal with in the colder months, and that shovelling it is a brutal pain. However, this does not stop me from liking snow. It’s great.

In what I could quite possibly describe as my favorite alternate universe: The Platoon have squeaked their way into the playoffs, after two weeks of out of the blue dominant play by Delver Fudgeson, D-man extraordinaire. After the sight of this out of this world play, his minutes are increased by the coach, and he leads the way into the playoffs on the top pair. First round, goal per game. No big deal. Afterwards, the second round sees a steep drop off to one goal. However, he does manage 11 assists in the four game sweep. The third round is smooth sailing, as the team is now firing on all cylinders. The team’s finals appearance is rewarded by outstanding goaltending, which steals the series away from whichever team, who cares, is up against the Platoon. Delver Fudgeson is awarded playoff MVP for his outstanding leadership and puck moving ability. Both equally impressive. In most of the other universes, the Platoon miss the playoffs and Delver amounts to virtually nothing. But this one was cool to look at.

Tony Pepperoni is hands down the best player in this list. Not even limited to this list, he is the best player, maybe ever. Have you seen his name? It’s TONY PEPPERONI. Unreal stuff by an absolute legend. Beautiful name, matched only by beautiful on ice play. Not even a contest.

b. Based on player ratings, EDM has the advantage in speed and acceleration and HAM has the advantage in balance and strength. Which team's physical skills will give them the edge in this series?

Edmonton is going to have the advantage with blistering speed. Strength and balance is cool and all. If you’re a huge loser. Get out of the ‘80s, folks. Speed kills, and the team that can fly is going to have an advantage. It’ll take a lot more than strength and balance to counteract an elite speed team.

c. Assemble your ideal fantasy team out of players in this series - F, F, F, D, D, G. Explain your choices.

F - Tony Pepperoni: Have you seen this name? GOAT player, GOATer name.
F - Robert Phelps: Quality passer… according to the stats. Gonna need someone feeding Tony.
F - Barrett Blackwood: This guy knows Tony Pepperoni. Every star needs their own Chris Kunitz.
D - Gabriel Johnson: Elite defender. As long as he doesn’t need to defend Tony Pepperoni.
D - Jax Duggan: Gonna need to pair some elite D with friendly faces. He knows Johnson, so why not?

d. Blizzard... snow... ok debate time - do you like snow? yes or no? why or why not?

Snow is great. Kids play in it. Adults play in it. Signals winter, which is an underrated season. Nothing better than playing hockey outside with some light snow coming down. And if you don’t like it, you can just go inside, so who cares. I personally love the white stuff.

There is no way anyone besides Tony Pepperoni gets this. The ol’ Giguere special. Best player of all time, best name of all time. Clear MVP, as the other team was busy putting together a “team effort” in their pitiful, successful attempt to win the championship, this guy was out there being a superstar. Leading scorer, leading name. No other choice, as the entire other team is severely lacking in their ability to individually compete with this guy and his great name. Well fought series, by Tony Pepperoni, and his entire run up to this point, and having his name the whole time, really should put into perspective how impressive this guy really is.

The arenas in Edmonton and Hamilton certainly don't need any gimmicks to get people into the stadium for the series, but the arenas want to make sure they're pulling out all the stops on the big stage. Help the concessions department of one of these two teams develop a new product, with marketing specifically pertaining to this finals series, to be sold at the arena during the finals. Describe the product and the marketing in 150 words or create a promotional poster showing the product, its name, the price, etc.

Alright listen up all you folks in Edmonton. Whether you’re here from out of town just to catch a game, or you are forced to live in this frozen hellscape, you’re always in need of something to keep you from becoming a frozen carcass left for the direwolves and what I can only assume are “Edmonton Buzzards”. This is why, with the great support of our fantastic league, I am presenting you with an all time, limited edition finals item. Introducing the personalized SHL blanket! It does everything you need: Covers you. Other blanket stuff. It does it all! These blankets have special made designs, making each unique, like a snowflake, which will cover the outside of this blanket, instead of your soft, warm skin. They feature all of your favorite players: 1: Tony Pepperoni. 2:. And more to come! Some of these high quality blankets were actually previously owned, AND USED, by current SHLers! $159.99. Only sold out of the trunk of the white van in Edmonton’s parking garage.

With everyone getting a free redistribution this offseason, S54 is quite wide open at the moment. Before those redistributions take place, who would you anticipate being the top team(s) for next season?

My non Platoon homer pick would have to go to my former team that cast me out like a child with leprosy: The New England Wolf Pack. There’s a lot of TPE over there, with a lot of crazy lunatics ready to make any adjustments they need to in order to ensure that sweet victory. While other teams may improve next season, I think this team, which was already very good, will be looking to make some big moves. The TPE redistribution should help a few of their players reach their absolute peak, something that should concern anyone going up against them. I know their lunatic GM personally, so I also know the lengths they will go, willingly or otherwise, to win big next season by making that jump to “super team” status. A phrase which I have just invented to refer to a team that Ace isn’t mad at.

The better team wins the Western Finals and we have HAM vs LAP in the CCF. I see that series going 7 games as we were able to keep up with the Steelhawks the majority of the season. In my a perfect world LA would win the cup, but I'm fairly certain due to the fact our goalies mojo wasn't doing to well, he just could not generate any momentum after the season ended and it was hard to build back up in the first round. The alternate universe would see Booth having a 4/5 flame going into the finals and I think our line setup would have had a far superior chance against the Steelhawks compared to the showing Edmonton put up. Really the alternate universe had Calgary winning in the quarter finals too but I figure we deserve to see EDM and LAP face off again so a real series can take place

Hamilton would be one of the top teams again, their build strategy puts them ahead of everyone on a group defensive level and they offensive just needs to shine through a little bit in order to put up enough goals to win the game. Next season I'm sure they will have more improved builds and without a redist, teams will be forced to try and get lucky games against the Steelhawks. The other strong team would be the Panthers. With our young core growing we are averaging out our TPE at a higher level and hope to be atop the Western Conference once again. With the redist it puts us into a stronger position as we can tighten up out weaknesses. New England would be another strong team, they seem to know what they are doing and their GM's do a good job. I think the standings would be fairly similar to what they were this season.

Which player from the Steelhawks or the Blizzard would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

Brady McIntyre will be stacking defenseman awards in FHM. Next season he will be even more of a threat on the ice so we will see how well the teams perform against him, but I expect him to win 2+ awards next season. I don't know what the awards are but two way defenseman and they could probably create a new award for just being a dominant presence on the ice. If there was a team full of McIntyres they would probably still lose but it would only be like 1-0 every game. I'm sure he would score but you would need different tactics on different McIntyres

d. Blizzard... snow... ok debate time - do you like snow? yes or no? why or why not?

A . The best player is easily Brady McIntyre, he can win a game single handedly if not kept in check. Pepperoni is good but if Brady is having a good night, there is no stopping him. His defensive skill puts him into a league of his own, able to shut down any attack, and his offensive generating abilites, when they are working, are a strong asset to his game

B. HAM wins. They worked to find the best stat combo in the game and it was obvious they weren't losing to a team like EDM. Next season with redistributes will be a test for them since most teams will likely adopt the same posture and hope for the same success

C. Lagerfeld, Wilson, Phelps, Murphy, Brady McIntyre, Geezus Kryst. The only player with a hope of standing up to HAM was McIntyre, so he was the only EDM player to make it onto my fantasy team. There was no other viable picks so it was easy to choose.

D. It snowed here today, the 13th of May. Fuck snow, it can fuck right back off to the North Pole and hopefully they get a heat wave and it all melts with no chance of every falling near me again. It's the middle of May, I'm supposed to be getting a tan right now.

a) The best play in this Challenge Cup Finals is a loaded question, top player would be Tony Pepperoni on Offense and Brady McIntyre on defense. Hamilton has a quality team, but none of their players really stand out to me, could be that western conference interference playing into my fog of war abilities.
b) Based on the player ratings, is something that the teams coaches are taking into consideration and it really becomes who's system will out match the others. balance and strength might go a long way if they are playing a heavy brand of hockey. Speed and acceleration might go a long way if they are able to squeeze through.
C) F- Tony Pepperoni. as Ricky Lafeur, of TPB, once said, "Holy Fuck. That's some good pepperoni." F - Hercules Rockefeller; Rock-her-fella? I hardly know her. F - Julio Tokolosh, im pretty sure i heard someone say something about Chick-Fil-A?
[Image: 994dd9fcbfd6da6e314917e74468ea83.png] D - Brady McIntyre, only one way to describe the guy, "I mean, nobody wants to admit they ate nine cans of ravioli, but I did. I'm ashamed of myself. The first can doesn't count, then you get to the second and third, fourth and fifth I think I burnt with the blowtorch, and then I just kept eatin'." D - Tor Tuck, if the bees go then the world go, but he gon' know first. G - Tommy Tuck, cause why not double tuck when you get the opportunitiy to.
D) Snow is fun in the mountains, but it'd be nice if that was wwhere it stayed. but it doesn't and when it comes into town its gross and a lot of work. so really its just a matter of where we are doing the snow? in town? on a mountain? in a hot tub, ya snowy warm be nice.

The player who should get the Playoffs MVP should be my goody buddy, Calvin Troit, or known by his pleeb name @caltroit_red_flames. This nomination(?)/ selection, is purely based on my 100% biased opinion that out of those two teams, probably really any team in the SHL, well I guess the question was about the finals so these two teams, and especially over that stink head @Troy_McClure03 over on Hamilton. Calabasas Troit, Brady McIntyre, is not only the better defensemen of the two, but also the one who clearly did the least amount of Charlie work for their respective hockey club.

3. Gulp, well here goes nothing. For my bet, I would bet on nobody other than Mr. Gabriel Johnson himself. Although I know he's gonna read this and walk into my DMs tomorrow with his chest puffed out and head slightly bigger than it was today, Gabriel Johnson is an incredible player and he had a great coming out party in the Challenge Cup, putting up a number of goals. Not to mention the fact that for some reason his player gets a ridiculous number of breakaways for whatever reason. Something something sim breaker Gabriel Johnson. All in all despite what he says about a flukey season and all that, Gabriel definitely enjoyed an incredible year where he was going at a point per game pace for a significant chunk of the season, and given how long he has until regression, it would be scary to NOT bet on him.

13.

A. Man, in all honesty all of these players would easily be accepted on many other teams as their best player, yet here we are, arguing over who's better and all that. Lagerfield just accomplished what many couldn't and that was overcome a 700 TPE deficit to beat out Wagstrom for scoring leader, which I find absolutely incredible. Phelps has been a rock in Hamilton history, consistently holding the fort down and being their franchise player for many seasons, and a solid 2-way player for the entirety of his career basically, similar to say, Anze Kopitar and Johnathan Toews. Kryyst has been standing on his head all playoffs and did just that the last time Hamilton won a cup, the incredible playoff performer keeps the hits coming and he really did not hold back, going blow for blow with future HoFer Tuck. On the other hand I believe Pepperoni is on the player in Edmonton, no questions asked. He's been one of the best players in the league no questions asked. I think the best player will end up being Pepperoni due to sheer skill and TPE levels, and although I don't think Edmonton will win the series, Tony will most likely be a force to be reckoned with all Finals.

B. I think it ultimately comes down to their playstyles, with the way FHM works I think the balance and strength side will actually be better as there's no way to just completely out skate opponents (Despite the fact that sim engines usually end up really liking speed as an attribute) and players can now outmuscle others for loose pucks and all that. Outside of that I think Hamilton will have the better strategy up their sleeve and have shown that with big wins against Buffalo and the (probable) favorites, New England. They've shown they can win with TPE deficits and as a result I believe that they can win once more with a deficit despite being the slower and less finesse-y team

D. Snow sucks. I was someone who was brought up in super hot conditions in Singapore, I'm much more used to those conditions than being rained on by cold white stuff (Yes hotdog I said cold stuff, the hot white stuff can wait till later tonight). Anyways, the snow was something that was a new experience for me when I initially moved to Toronto at the age of 10 and lets just say it was not exactly for me. Outside of that, just the general cold temperatures that come along with the Blizzard and snow really ain't my thing to be honest. Just something that I could never get accustomed to and although I may not be a huge fan of it, it has brought it's fair share of golden memes like this icicle i found outside of my house

This is a tough question to answer after the redistribution because it is going to have significant impacts across the league and that amount of change is hard to predict. However, the question here who would be the best to teams if this does not happen. Well the first team is pretty obvious considering one team blew up the SHL in order to the get the league to go to the FHM sim engine and it would be foolish not to pick Hamilton Steelhawks. After all, if you go through the effort of destroying sim engine, you had better ensure you good at the next sim engine and low and behold, they were.  The second team is a much harder choice, so I think I will have to go all conspiracy theory and go with the Edmonton Blizzard.  This is simply based off the fact leafs and teddy are in the owner group so clearly teddy is feeding leafs and the blizzard all of the FHM secrets in the ownership forums of the site. Therefore, my two teams are Hamilton and Edmonton.

With new tools at our disposal in FHM, we may eventually see some new awards enter the fold. Create a suggestion for a new SHL award. What kind of achievement is the award given for? Who's the award named after? Who would've won the award this season?

Well here is the time where I shamelessly plug myself. I think one of the most significant achievements with the FHM sim engine is having the best Game Rating. This stat took hours of programmer’s time and much deliberation by the FHM staff and associated development teams. So clearly, this stat is the heart and soul of the FHM sim engine, so this cannot be discounted by the SHL.  As for how you would name this award and who would have one it this year, is really the same question, as the award should be named after the inaugural season winner. Therefore, you must be asking what elite player led the league in this statistic that the FHM team fought and bled for, well player is the one and only Lil’ Manius of the New Orleans Specters. Who this last season lead the SHL in Game Rating of 83 a whole three points higher than the next player in the league. Therefore, the award must be called “The Manius”.

Well in our current world, the Challenge cup finals are held with no fans in attendance with games only being broadcast to the people via the internet and television.  Thus, the mid-game entertainment people of the SHL had to think outside the box as to what would keep the fans watching their television in between periods.  Many ideas were discussed and shot down, such as loin tamers, but then it was pointed out that, it would never fly with the PETA people. Another suggestion was strippers but then it was pointed out that it is 2020 and not 1970. Several such ideas were discuss and dismissed in the end the SHL decide that a motorcycle stunt show in the stands of the area was the best way to keep the people watching the televisions and not wandering out for food. Therefore, the SHL contacted the Nitro Circus Team to put together the SHL mid game entertainment during one of the games of the Challenge Cup Finals.

With everyone getting a free redistribution this offseason, S54 is quite wide open at the moment. Before those redistributions take place, who would you anticipate being the top team(s) for next season?

I think there are plenty of teams that underperformed given the strength of their roster in the first FHM season, so redistribution will see a lot of teams shore up a little bit defensively and show off the real strenghts of their rosters. Top teams won't change too much, New England, Hamilton, Los Angeles and Edmonton will all continue to be strong, but we'll see more competitive teams from New Orleans, Buffalo, Manhattan and possibly San Francisco as well in terms of teams battling out for the bottom 2 spots in each division's playoff picture. That being said the seasonal standings from the bottom shouldn't shake up too much as a lot of those teams didn't suffer from issues with their FHM builds and more had issues with the strength and competitive ability of their rosters. Overall though the playoff race will definitely be a lot tighter around the middle as the .600 teams battle for the final spots.

Skao Anazibf is really the only young gun with a chance to lock up any meaningful hardware in the real future, namely because the competition on his own team blows hard. Take Gabriel Johnson for example, a man whose build is so bad that if the powerplay didn't exist, he would -4 points. Now take Skao Anazibf. Works hard, eats well, plays hard, looks sexy. Obviously none of these qualities are awardable, but they combine to make him a future league MVP. His ability to find the back of the net is rivalled only by Cameron Carter II, and he has so many apples he should start an apple farm. Mark my words, Skao Anazibf will have an MVP trophy within the next 5 seasons. You will not find a harder working man.

I think FHM is gonna bring a lot more parity and stability to the International Ice Hockey Federation's offseason tournament, and we'll see a lot of teams big and small make a much bigger splash. Canada I'm sure will have a lot to worry about for 2 reasons. The first is that a lot of teams that got memed by Simon T are now gonna be able to really fine tune and build competitive rosters that dare I say could even rival Canada's and outmatch them by really squaring off against them with the right tactics. The second reason is that Gabriel Johnson is flat out not an intelligent man. STHS was 2+2, FHM is 5640 x 3000 + 80*65. Gabe doesn't have what it takes to truly understand FHM on a molecular level. Now take a team like Russia, which is my team. They're very smart, and some of the best people on the site. I couldn't ask for better fed heads and thats why TEAM RUSSIA will be taking home the gold medal.

I think the Simulation Hockey League is setting our sights too narrow. We're missing the forest for the trees here. If we wanna go big we need to get someone big to perform. But how could we get an artist to preform between periods during a quarantine? Easy, we get Travis Scott. Why Mr. Scott you ask? He has no issue doing virtual concerts, like the one he did in Fortnite which is the biggest battle royale with over one hundred million unique players every day. What's the next step up from that? Why the Challenge Cup Finals, of course! Think about how many people would create on the SHL if we were the first sim league to host the Travster. Following this act would be a speed dating show starring my player Skao Anazibf, who has been complaining in the LR about how lonely he is since his fiancee left him for Dolph Lundgren. This will allow the audience to watch a fun shitty dating show and it will also hopefully get Anazibf a loving wife.

Geezus Krysst was hands down the Hamilton Steelhawks Most Valuable Player in the Challenge Cup Finals and here's why. HE WAS A BRICK WALL FOR THE CUP CHAMPS. Geezus Krysst was a monster in the crease turning away shot after shot for the Steelhawks and ensuring that even in the nights that were slow and the offence was quieter the team was able to eek out some really tight wins. Without Krysst I don't think the Steelhawks win the cup, let alone make the finals, he lifts their spirits in the room and is the foundation of the Steelhawks on and off the ice.

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S53 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?

In one of infinite realities, a certain team from the City of Angels gets their shot at the Challenger Cup against their old foe from the Big Apple. In the Quarter Finals, the Los Angeles Panthers easily dispatch of the New Orleans Spectres in a dominant and convincing sweep. NOLA only scored a total of 5 points that series. In the Semi Finals, against the Edmonton Blizzards, LA found tougher competition as the tandem of Tuck and Spector matched Booth and McMahon. However, only a God could will LA through. His surname is McZerhl. LAP played the full 7 games, but eventually battled through. Meanwhile in Manhattan, the Rage also had to fight through one game. That so happened to be their first game against the high-flying New England Wolfpack. Is was a simple battle between Eko Van Otter and Luke Thomason of who can score more. In this battle, Thomason scored more, but it was a major battle: 18 goals were scored between the two in the 6-game thriller. After that, is was smooth cruising through the Buffalo Stampede. An even more dominant sweep, the goal difference between MAN and BUF was 16 goals to MAN favour. Now we shall see who comes out on top of this thrilling battle between LAP and MAN. (215 words)

With everyone getting a free redistribution this offseason, S54 is quite wide open at the moment. Before those redistributions take place, who would you anticipate being the top team(s) for next season?

Foulke: Now this will be a rather loaded question that I’m about to answer. Not as loaded as an AIM-9 Sidewinder heading straight to your face, but I digress. Regardless, I’m willing to undertaker that question; I won’t exactly answer them all, but I can try. Now from the west, TEX will have their youth coming up, but it will still be some time until they are ready. SFP will be the one to watch as they have a solid core, however, goalie is their weak point.  EDM is also one to watch. They may be older, but they are still dominant even now, and have their bases covered. As for the east, straight toss up of BUF for their star players in their primes, NEW for supplementing their young core with star veteran players, and HAM, who have both the players and the management to compete for a long time, much to the chagrin of other. Any of them could win the east, and I have no idea how that would go between that Mexican standoff. (177 words)

EVO: I must admit, I am exited for the new IIHF season. Lots of intrigue with the new rules finally in place; new format, new regulations. The only thing I wouldn’t say is new is the players, but that’s just part of our jobs. Now, other than GB, the team I play for, I think that USA have the best chance for gold. They have so many talents to pick from like the venerable Geoff Moore or the show stopping Aleister Cain. They have the talent and tools to be a gold medal threat. As for my team, Great Britain, I also think that we can make a shot at defending our gold medal from last season. It may be a whole new ball game, but our youth have gotten stronger, me surprisingly included, and out vets have stays at their peak powers. It will take a lot to beat the team that GB built, and I think we will go far. Fed Head Foulke is going off about some guarantee like Joe Namath, but I still think we will at least get a podium. a. Who is the best player in this CC finals? Plenty of good candidates: Lagerfield, Phelps, Kryyst, McIntry, Pepperoni, Scholz, etc. Who's your choice for best player and why?
b. Based on player ratings, EDM has the advantage in speed and acceleration and HAM has the advantage in balance and strength. Which team's physical skills will give them the edge in this series?
c. Assemble your ideal fantasy team out of players in this series - F, F, F, D, D, G. Explain your choices.
d. Blizzard... snow... ok debate time - do you like snow? yes or no? why or why not?

A.) EVO: That’s basically a run in between Pepperoni and Lagerfield. Both are going to end up in the hall of fame, but I have always been swain by the Salami man. Pepperoni just scores, and he does so in huge quantities. There is a reason he is a threat to reach a point per game whenever he plays. I’ll put my money on him. (64 words)
B.) Foulke: Pace and acceleration are serious keys to any skaters since if you outrun the opponent, you will find yourself in an advantageous position almost every time. However, it can’t help you when acquiring pucks in the crease, screening, faceoffs or scoring the tap ins. And for that, I’d give EDM the advantage. (54 words)
C.) F – Julio Tokolosh: Very chill guy with lots of playmaking and scoring talent and a great work rate.
F – Knute Knurtsson: In my opinion, the captain of this team. Selfless, class act with a lot of skill to boot.
F – Jon Forty-One: The madman of the team, I believe he would make you question your abilities with the changeup in pace and aggressiveness he’d bring.
D -  Gabe Johnson: The heart of the team, funny guy with a lot of defensive IQ and playmaking abilities.
D – FR Finn-Rhys: The more conventional defenseman. He’s a rock, breaking up plays and always being there to apply the check on someone.
(109 words)
D.) EVO: Do I like snow? Is that even a debate? I built and own a chalet in the middle of the snowy Rockies. I still live there when winter break is on. I constantly snowboard in the nearby ski resort and even plan to build a snow park in my backyard. Long answer short, of course I love snow. (60 words)

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S53 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?
In my alternate reality the same teams make the challenge cup finals, the blizzard and the steelhawks, but instead of the hamilton steelhawks winning the challenge cup the edmonton blizzard sweep the steelhawks 4 - 0 with all of the games going to overtime. I really really wanted this challenge cup for a few reasons. 1.) this is Tommy Tuck's final season and he's been one of my best friends on SHL for a while now 2.) Brady needs something to really put a cap on his career and I think another challenge cup could do that 3.) it would have been amazing to put the steelhawks in their place after having them force us to switch sim engines. Despite it being for the better it had to be rushed. Anyway in this universe brady scores the game winning goal and the edmonton blizzard have an insane party all across canada. And he gets the girl in the end like all movie heroes do except it's irl.

Well the homer pick would obviously be me choosing the edmonton blizzard. We still have a ton of great players on defense with new stars rising like Karlstrasse Scholz and Finn-Rhys but we're also seeing the departure of Tommy Tuck and the regression of some players like McIntyre, Rockefeller, Tor Tuck, etc. so I think it would make sense to choose another team like the manhattan rage. The rage have an exceptional lineup of stars like Alex Winters, Luke Thomason, Jax Aitakallo or however you spell it and then a star of defense in Barrett McCarthy. They're really looking like a total dynamo our there. The only thing they need to figure out is tactics but the same could be said for every other team out there. Even with Thomason regressing he's one of the top players in the entire league so I think he could easily be the top 1C out there this coming season and lead the rage to another challenge cup.

Which player from the Steelhawks or the Blizzard would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?
If I had to choose one player to win an individual award from the two finals teams in the future it would easily be Karlstrasse Scholz in my opinion. He's not even near his peak yet and he was playing on the 2nd pair this season but he was able to score 41 points! I think a lot of your offense as a defenseman is dependent on the forwards you have but if he has the right goal scorers in front of him Scholz will be far and away the favorite during his prime to win the Stevens award for the best defenseman in the league. He's just looking way too good to not be the favorite in the future.

With new tools at our disposal in FHM, we may eventually see some new awards enter the fold. Create a suggestion for a new SHL award. What kind of achievement is the award given for? Who's the award named after? Who would've won the award this season?
I think that there are some awards that really get lost when it comes to the SHL's awards. Adding a defensive defenseman award was a huge step in the right direction considering how differently certain defensemen can play the game from each other and how points usually get more recognition than defensive play, but in my opinion there really needs to be an award for the player that has the highest giveaway to takeaway ratio. I know it's not really any award you can vote on, rather something that statistics definitively decide, but this would be a great award. Call it the Sneakiest Boi award and give it out to show that there's one player each season who stands above all others as the one who was able to pick everyone's pocket without losing the puck nearly as often as everyone else. It would really showcase a player who is great at both ends of the ice in my opinion. If we have to name it after someone then call it the FormX award considering he has an unbanned multi in the SHL right now.

This season I think the IIHF is going to be an easy gold medal for the Czech Republic. We've been waiting a long time for us to finally be able to move on from Simon T and now here we are! Czechia has by far the best roster in the entire IIHF in my opinion. We have top earners like Luke Thomason, Brady McIntyre, Barret McCarthy, Charlie Schieck, Michael Scarn, and a lot of other great players. Our top end talent is seriously ridiculous and I genuinely think that Czechia has like an 80% chance to take home the gold this season. There are no other powerhouses out there right now that can take it from us. Ireland is long dead, Canada and USA are in shambles, Britain, Germany and Austria are rebuilding. This is our chance. We can finally get it done! It's been a long time coming too, in my time since S38 we've only won one medal, a bronze a few seasons ago. Gold is so close I can taste it!
