During their 20 seasons in league Philadelphia has never missed the playoffs. Which is impressive but still there are other teams with longer playoffs streaks, while other teams clean the house others try to stay afloat and do a retool while still staying in playoffs, both with varying successes. Out of last 5 Challenge Cup winners both Los Angeles and San Francisco missed playoffs about 6 seasons before they won their cup while New England has been in playoffs since S67. What in your opinion is best way to achieve success in SHL? Is it better to have high but shorter peak or should teams try to aim staying close to top but likely never reaching it for longer, potentially almost indefinitely? Can they somehow do both?

There certainly is merit to both approaches. While it is certainly is true that the best teams have the best chances of lifting the cup, the fact is that quite frequently the team that ends up as champions is a team that, while above average and solidly in the playoffs, isn't the highest ranked team but one that hit its stride at the right time and perhaps had some luck with some players getting hot, especially goalies. The old saying after all, is that you can't win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket. Building a team that perennially makes the playoffs, though perhaps never as one of the favorites, will get you plenty of chances and eventually, with the right team and the right matchups, a cup. For teams that are interested in having at least a puncher's chance every season, this approach makes sense. You may never become a dynasty that wins multiple championships in a row, but every season your team will be relevant and every season there will be a reason to get excited for the playoffs.

The other approach of course is to have higher peaks and lower lows, resulting in a window of several seasons where the team can be one of the favorites to win and near the top of the standings for a decent run. For those looking for a dynasty, to win multiple times in a short period, this is the way. The disadvantage here of course is also having to endure a string of seasons of rebuilding where there really is no hope of making any noise in the playoffs as the team likely will miss out. Furthermore, bad luck or running into another team peaking at the same time can result in disappointment during the short window where perhaps they end up winning less than expected, or even not at all. For first time since league changed to 66 game schedule all teams in league finished with more than 30 points and it wasn’t by small margin as Edmonton who finished last ended up with 38 points, which would have been enough to make playoffs ten seasons ago. Do you think it shows change in mentality of teams when it comes to tanking? Maybe they just got lucky? Or are we seeing the impact of the changes to how draft order is determined?

Edmonton finishing with 38 points is an aberration rather than a sign of times changing. Ultimately, Edmonton was a very bad team that by all accounts should have been a 20 point team. Instead, they were lucky and scraped together a handful of wins rather unexpectedly. This will not be a new trend in future SHL seasons but will return to the norm with the bottom of the table teams again having the usual low point totals. (77 words, 1 TPE)

11. Roadtrip (+4 TPE)

The Panthers were extremely disappointed to be ousted so early in the post-season, but they're already focused on winning it all again next season, so they decided to take a bus trip up 101 to go watch the first couple games of the finals. The trip should be a relaxing experience but at the same time will surely be tense watching two other teams play for the prize that the squad so desperately wanted to defend. Interestingly, Alexi Piastri organized the trip, a player that many people believe could be lacing up the skates in a new city next season. What should be a 5/6 hour drive, will now be a week long trip with some interesting stops.. the team will be camping at a "secret spot" as Piastri described it, elaborating no further than it's somewhere north of Santa Barbara, but south of Monterey, and refusing to acknowledge that he said anything about it after saying that much. Next up the team will spend a night in Monterey so that Alexi can eat at some non chalant Italian place called Gianni's before the team visits the aquarium the next day, before being forced to camp at Half Moon Bay / Mavericks for a few days as somehow, according to Piastri, "an extreme southwest swell will make the roads impassable." Alexi is particularly excited to surf with some of his friends such as Reed Kobo, Axel Kirby, Elena Maximova, & whoever else is brave enough to paddle out.

12. IIHF (+1 TPE)

I'm thinking that team Japan will have a great tournament this season. Japan has always been competitive and maybe this will be the year that they put it all together. From an individual perspective, Alexi Piastri will no doubt be fired up and ready to play after the Panthers early playoff exit. I would expect the former Tournament MVP to come out with extra intensity and be one of the most dangerous players for other teams to try to defend.

I feel like it shows that tanking isn't worth it and you should always try to play for the best meaning every team is going with the mindset of winning the game and not losing it this results in all teams playing much better since they don't have to tank but just win games if this was an actual thing instead of just simulation it would make the league more enyoable to watch since all the teams would be playing since i would figure it isn't fun to go watch a team what doesn't even have proper lineups being used

13. first of all i want to say there are bunch of more international tournaments like EHT (Euro hockey tour what is like multiple tournaments in one) . tho i would think there is no use for new international tournaments since it would be played mostly at the same rosters but i guess you could avoid it by making combined teams like a 4 nations cup but there is combined teams like team NA team norden Team europe and other world since now it won't be reused rosters but something new and this could be played like mid season since don't really want two internationall tournaments at the same time.

8. i feel like the cup will be going to philly this season since emotianlly san fransisco isn't at their best because they just went to game 7 against a team what should have gone out in the first round so it might not be the best emotional setting for them so if philly can just use that to their advantage at the start and get a few away game wins and then they have the home adavantage so only if philly strikes out fast they can win but if san fransisco still is able to win at home then they are going to win the cup

I don't think San Francisco's victory comes as a shock to anybody who was following the league this season, as they were a powerhouse coming into the season and they maintained that status the whole way through, culminating in a 4-1 Championship victory over a commendably formidable Philadelphia squad. Ultimately, San Francisco's offense, headlined by Logan Webb and Dominik Winters proved to be unstoppable, as is clearly evident in the lopsided goal totals -- San Francisco easily outscored Philly for the rest of the series in just ONE game, dropping a ludicrous 14 points in one game (7 in the first period! what???). At the end of the day, the offense that carried them through the regular season made short work of the playoffs and the Philly defense just could not keep up, despite the best efforts of stars like Red Kirkby and Cale Salad. I wouldn't be surprised to see both these squads back at it again next year.

I'd say the draft lottery system changes plays the biggest part in this. No longer a team can pull a Barracuda season and gets the best odds for first overall. But no teams under 30 points is an anomaly. The two weakest rosters were Hamilton and Edmonton but they have good management who knows FHM very well, so not really surprising they overperformed. My biggest worry is teams are gonna adjust to the new lotto. I wouldn't be surprised of intentional tanking in the first half of the season by using dumb tactics and once officially eliminated they start using real strats to get wins and get that number one pick

It would never happen because it would require way too much work but I would love if we would do something similar to real life when it comes to international tournaments. Have the IIHF once every 4 seasons so a gold medal would actually mean something. A lot of long time users like myself are like nobody cares about the IIHF, maybe a change like this would help. In between those tourneys I would have the 4 Nations Cup for all players on teams who didn't make the playoffs or eliminated in the first round. I feel like it would make the offseason waiting a lot less painful. Problem is every season would be a different pool of players and you probably would need a draft, that's just too much logistic needed for a one week thing. Preseason is just pretty much a let's check if all updates when well, replacing it with the World Cup could be cool.

I truly do think that we are seeing quite the change in the league, with the worst team in the league, Edmonton, being at 38 points, and I do believe that the way the impact of the draft orders has changed and made Edmonton being able to be more competitive. We have seen that the value of the changing of the draft order has made sure that the Edmonton Blizzard have been able to show that they can compete even while having the top pick in the draft, and you could really see that they are continuing to push the envelope because they were able to get 38 points, which would have been the playoffs just 10 seasons ago.

6.) Clearly the best team not in the finals, according to me, has to be the New Orleans Specters. For the simple reason that I am a home team fanatic nothing more nothing less. Hugh Manius is a Spector thus they are by far the best team not in the finals. I wish I could tell you a story with great numbers but no I am not going to do that.

Maybe a bit of luck, but yes I think teams don't really want to have 4-5 seasons dead last to get the 1st pick more than 2 seasons in a row. There is the exemple of Montréal and Edmonton, but lots of teams rebuilding or those that did it a couple of seasons ago didn't finished dead last. Like Chicago, Manhattan and Seattle. In the case of Edmonton, they had some rookies that had a fantastic season so they got a bit lucky with their production, but they have the assets to be competitive real fast.
Surely the new draft system work, but it's still relatively new no? So let's wait, but for now I think it was a good thing.

Your team has scheduled a road trip to go see games 1 and 2 of the SHL finals between San Francisco and Philadelphia (or to four-star cup finals between those games if your player plays for either team). You’re in charge of officially setting up the trip. The only rule? You gotta go by bus! Where do you stop along the way? Which of your teammates are you most excited to go on a trip with? Do you end up missing game 1 and 2 because of the many stops between your team’s home city to San Francisco that you’ve planned? Does the bus end up breaking down at any point? How does the trip go? If you’re on a team playing in the finals, plan a trip to the first away games instead (by bus ofcourse, for teambuilding and fun).

From St Louis Missouri to San Francisco California, there is more than 2000 miles and more than 30h of driving to do.
The first stop will be Nebraska. Nothing related to the SHL or SMJHL there, nut it's probably better than driving through Kansas (joking, don't know shit about either of those states).
After that we stop in Denver to talk with the Raptors about joining us, but they had to play the SMJHL final so they can't come with us.
The next stop is Salt Lake City, home of the new NHL team. We didn't had a reason to stop there in the past, but now we have!
After that we visited another SMJHL team, the Nevada Battleborn. They lost in the first round of the playoffs so they were ready to "ride" with us so we followed them on the road directly to San Francisco.
The roadtrip is now complete Smile
