What do they do differently that other teams should follow for better success in their future playoff runs? I think for me, someone who doesn't necessarily know much about all of the other SHL teams, it is that the Tampa Bay Barracudas and the San Francisco Pride have put in the work to build SHL the are made to win. I remember many seasons ago, when my first player was playing in the league, both of these teams were at the bottom of the standings. They both have obviously done a whole lot of work to get these teams out of the basement and now are the best of the best. That isn't easy and they must have had some solid upper management to help them draft well, to retain and attract quality talent. It isn't easy to get to the top of this league, let alone remain at the top. I have to give credit credit is due. Well done Barracudas and Pride, you deserve this. See you both next season. What could the other team have done differently to change the result? What was your favorite part of the series? As I am sure everyone knows, the San Francisco Pride are yet again the Challenge Cup winners. Congratulations, San Francisco. A heck of an accomplishment. I am still a little sour about losing to the Pride in the Western Conference finals, I felt we gave the Pride their toughest series, and with a little bit of luck, we could have maybe stole the series. But alas, it wasn't in the cards for the Specters, the Pride beat us fair and square, just like they have done 16 times in a row. Crazy. Nothing but respect for the team. I hope the Specters can take the Western mantle next season, and maybe follow in their footsteps. 6. Your player gets added to a message group by accident and gets an unintentional invite to watch the finals live with the commissioners on their box. What does your player do and how does the situation evolve? Much like our audaciously under - or do I dare to say, unqualified - secretary of, dare I say in this day and age, offense... the commissioner of our league has included me in a messaging thread which was clearly meant to remain secret. Unlike the drunken buffoon who approximates a leader the department of defense, the commissioner did not impart state secrets, nor anything of it's ilk in content or bombastic lack of a true statesman's tact... he simply sent me an invitation to join him in the commissioner's box for the championship tilt between the Tampa Bay barracuda and the san Francisco pride. Now, I am an esteemed personage in my own right. Not only am, the year of our lord two thousand and eight's, sole winner of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences and a Distinguished Professor of Economics at the Graduate Center of the City University of Nww York (the greatest city on god's green earth), but I am a renowned weaver of yarns. The story is my loom and I do not dare disappoint an audience. Now you might ask, is this ideal for an event in which we are watching a sport? To which I reply, probably not. 10. The Tampa Bay barracuda and the San Francisco Pride have made the finals an awful lot in the recent past. How do they do it? Verification word: Rags 10. 103 words +2 Honestly what both Tampa and San Fran did to make the finals so many times was just a good old fashioned quality rebuild by a few GMs who know what they’re doing. It’s actually super impressive to see both of these teams at the top of their game, given the fact that both teams were at the bottom of the standings not that long ago. It’s a good underdog story for sure, though I would prefer if New England had won it all. But either way, rebuilding correctly and having patience is really the key to finding success. You can’t buy a championship. 12. 208 words +4 Expansion is an interesting thing, because it can effect two different types of teams in two very different ways. For the heavy hitters, the league champions, the playoff contenders, they are usually stacked teams where every player contributes to the overall success of the team in a very meaningful way. Losing anyone in the lineup, let alone three or four players would be a huge blow to the team’s ability to find success, and would most likely knock them down a peg or two. Imagine a team of 1800+ players, having to lose three of them and replace them with 500 tpe players. That would be detrimental. But on the flip side of the coin, most bottom feeders or rebuilding teams usually have a few players who are 1800+, while having tons of players between 425 and 1000. These teams could either easily lose their highest tpe players and still be safely in a rebuild, or they could afford to lose some lower, newer players since they weren’t planning on having success any time soon anyway. The cap implications would be interesting, if cap had that much of an effect on the SHL, which it doesn’t. Or maybe it does now I don’t know I’m not a GM. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sigs by Me, Merica, High Stick King, Rum_Ham, Jess, vulfzilla, enigmatic, and Carpy

It will really hurt teams that really rely on a few prospects and are mid rebuilding and regressing as it could see some of those prospects go. But for teams such as Hamilton that have a plethora of prospects, they should be fine letting go of some of their regressing guys and be safe in the future. S82 will be very top heavy, with the teams that want to compete buying while they still can and lower tier teams focusing on draft capital. We should see assets move like never before, and the teams who are good in S83, will be those who made smart offseason moves and have prospects entering their prime. ![]() Player Progression Director Resident Gobbo

Code: 1. CW TRIVIA bananas Code: 3 TPE Code: 3. The duo of Dominik Winters and Logan Webb currently lead SFP in scoring this postseason and have been top 10 in SHL scoring for the past three seasons. What makes them so special, and what does it mean for them to stay on top as a duo rather than a single successful player? Winters and Webb are certainly one of the top duos of all time in the SHL. They are both dynamic forwards who can do it all in the offensive and defensive zone. Not only are they incredibly talented by themselves, but their chemistry is what really sets them apart. These two players have been together since the early days and can practcially know where each other are on the ice with their eyes closed. This is simply what sets them apart from other "pairs" of players, other duos don't have as much chemistry and it makes all the difference in the world. Code: 102 words - 2 TPE Code: 10. We’ve seen Tampa Bay and San Francisco make the finals twice in a row and both 3 times in the last 5 seasons. What do they do differently that other teams should follow for better success in their future playoff runs? The Tampa Bay Barracuda and the San Francisco Pride both have an incredible culture in their locker rooms. Having been a part of the Pride locker room I can speak from first-hand experience as to their culture, but I have heard the Barracuda have a similar vibe. Putting together a strong culture in your locker room not only retains players, but it also employs players to earn as much TPE as possible and want to push the group to be better. My first stint with Edmonton was a very similar experience and it was a huge reason why I personally max earned and why the team was so successful for a long time. I have no doubts that the Pride and the Barracuda will be strong contenders for many seasons to come. I also have hopes that Edmonton will soon be back in the mix as well, as we have a great culture in our locker room as well. Task 1: Trivia Revere (3 TPE)
Task 5: I think having a strong core of forwards like the Pride is more important than Tampa’s defensive roster, for a similar reason that damage is more important than gaining life in Magic the Gathering: not losing isn’t the same as winning. Being able to prevent the opponent’s goals is important and lacking in either area of your team will be strongly felt, but you need at least one goal scored to win. One slip-up on a strong defense can lead to a goal being scored, but that doesn’t matter as much if you have your own high score to counteract that. (101 words, 2 TPE) Task 10: Consistency, consistency, consistency. Obviously every team hopes to be consistently victorious, but from what I’ve seen San Francisco and Tampa Bay focus on always having a little bit of draft power to shore up their lines, and an otherwise steady stream of high-earners and not a weak line among them. Coming from Calgary, a team whose plan has largely been “just wait until we have all of these people together, then we’ll be unstoppable” you really do need to focus on the present. You can’t be the eventually guy, you can’t always say you “will be” good, you have to be the guy who is currently good. When you layer plan upon plan for one or two shots at the cup, if one block is unsteady your entire jenga tower falls and your multi-season plan collapses with very little to show for it. Now this might be some bias coming from a team that keeps butting heads with the Pride in the playoffs, but even though we’ve given them a solid run in a few years they’re still the threepeat champs and we aren’t. Same with Tampa Bay, even though they have those strong players in regression, they’re still contributing while the other newer players build up their TPE base. (Trivia, 3 TPE) 9. I’m of the opinion that Carolina Kraken would throw the most banger party ever if the intent were to impress the judges with a stellar party. The party would be Ocean/Sea themed because of our namesake- the Kraken. With that in mind, the main dishes would be seafood-related or themed. Some people are, of course, allergic to seafood or shellfish, so they would be provided with other food options, too. Walbilly Koala would ensure that the aquatic function would have chicken dishes. Most importantly, chicken nuggets and tenders, since chicken is his favorite kind of meat. But what makes this party the most stellar one that any of the four options could throw would be the decorations. Kraken could find an underwater venue that displays masses of vividly colored fishes. Tables are lined with decorative coral crusted fine china. The floor also functions as a screen, displaying beautiful wildlife without harming any actual fish. When the dancing part of the party starts, the dance floor will be illuminated by digital glowing fish and squids that follow the song's beat! Of all four teams, Carolina Kraken simply would have the strongest theme and most potential to host an incredibly unique party. That should impress the judges. (4 TPE, 206 words) 12. Honestly, I am rather scared about the possibility of teams losing their players because of the expansion. It doesn’t affect players who are less invested in their team, but it significantly affects the ones who are. It’s hard to imagine that any team’s performance won’t be harshly impacted by losing people they painstakingly drafted. Though maybe it could be good. Losing some players means that placements throughout the upcoming seasons and playoffs could drastically differ. (1 TPE, 75 words) ![]() Registered Posting Freak

1 - CW Trivia Word: Catchphrase 4 - Despite being very heavily in regression, Tampa Bay’s Jølngüštrâädüvich DuBølk, Rikkert Biemans and Johnny Wagner-Svenson are still producing at very respectable rates. Is having depth players who can perform really well despite being low on TPE responsible for TBB’s recent success this and last postseason? The success of the Tampa Bay Barracuda (TBB) in both this and last postseason can be linked to their ability to get solid production out of depth players like Jølngüštrâädüvich DuBølk, Rikkert Biemans, and Johnny Wagner-Svenson, despite their heavy regression and lower TPE totals. Here’s why that matters so much: Even though they're in regression, those three have managed to squeeze real on-ice value from what's left of their builds. That means they’re playing smart minutes. They’re in systems that complement their strengths. They’re used in situations where they can still thrive (matchups, zone starts, etc.). In the SHL playoffs, top-end talent often cancels out. Success comes down to whether your third and fourth lines can outplay theirs. TBB has that: DuBølk is older, but he brings physicality and presence. Biemans is a savvy vet who can still quarterback plays. Wagner-Svenson has that "clutch" gene — pops up with timely points. They’re getting good production out of lower-TPE players, which allows the team to: Spend cap and ice time on rising stars. Run three or even four lines confidently instead of just leaning on top six. Mitigate regression losses more effectively than teams who lose value with their aging cores. Word Count: 200 6 - Your player gets added to a message group by accident and gets an unintentional invite to watch the finals live with the commissioners on their box. What does your player do and how does the situation evolve? Joe Primeau shows up dressed sharp but with that unmistakable Vancouver flavor — confident, and carrying a cooler bag full of authentic smoked meat sandwiches and squeaky cheese curds from his hometown of Montreal. He’s respectful but doesn’t act starstruck. He knows this is a rare peek behind the curtain and he intends to use it to his advantage, soaking in how the top brass observes matches and talks business. He doesn't make a fool of himself. In fact, by the time the night is over, he’s laughing with those in attendance over old hockey stories, the Commish is genuinely impressed with his insights on match psychology, and some guests begrudgingly admits the poutine slapped. By the end, the Commish gives him a nod. “Maybe next time it won’t be by accident.” And Joe would then walk away knowing he just elevated himself—not through luck, but by being the kind of guy who thrives in unexpected moments. 10. More teams should follow Tampa's structure to find success. They've built up a roster that is strong throughout and built to not peak in a few seasons but to crest gradually through a long window. This has allowed them to extend their window beyond the expected timelines because of the immense on ice chemistry between the players. 57 11. While Seattle did it last season, Montreal was the team that really stepped in to their own this season. Their top performers finally hit their stride and their incredibly deep roster allowed for some interesting tactical play that unlocked the massive amounts of talent on that roster. They will likely be even stronger this upcoming season as their team chemistry takes off, and their window looks good as their expansion impact will be partially limited by only losing third line center Jamie Fraser and their deep prospect pool will offer them options to trade and retain current players or pivot into a strong future. 104 12. Expansion won't specifically hurt one team or a type of team more than others outside of the teams that are fully breaking down and selling off. We are at capacity as a league and as such most every team is in a surplus of assets and players. Losing a few to expansion is of course never desired but is not really a cause for alarm for most teams looking to contend in the 80s. Some teams, like Montreal, Hamilton, Chicago, and Seattle, are actually going to benefit from this timing as their current strong cores for contending in this decade were due to be over the salary cap, over the roster limit, or both incredibly soon. 116 |
