S73 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams
#16

Although the Falcons' had pushed the strength and conditioning programs to the max in the days leading up to the playoff opener, the afternoon and evening before was left completely free - practice facility locked and barred to make sure nobody could even think of getting in there for a little extra time or a few more reps. There was some grumbling but, for the most part, the Falcons took the enforced break and rested. At just after 8pm that night, however, the Detroit coach received a call from Simo.

"Ah, coach, the police want to speak to you."

While his teammates had rested, Simo had been discovered holding up traffic, pushing his beaten-up old car down the street to, quote, "work the quads". While there was nothing actually illegal about it, the cops took a rather dim approach to somebody causing a blockage pushing a perfectly operational car.

It seems unlikely that the dressing down he received is going to have any impact.

It’s time to pull up and sally out, the time of the year for hard knocks and harder goals. Our players on the Kraken are highly motivated hockey playing machines, and as such, we will be having (optional) extra practices between games. The best way to get going is to stay going is the philosophy we have. We will also be having team bonding time to get us motivated to play for each other during this stretch of the season. Learning to play for one another will help us play with no quite in our game even when the chips are down and the refs are clowns. I imagine the weight room will be a high traffic area as we all try to get the most out of our minds and bodies. Such a place is a great way to zone in on what really matters while also trying give our shots that extra mustard that’ll stump the opposing teams goalie. We will top it all off by having a big corn themed meal served by Cob O’Corn himself the day before the first game.

The Maine Timber faced some real uncertainty in the first half of the regular season but finished as strong as oaks in the second. The first round bye gives time for introspection on the trials they overcame to become a red hot force to be reckoned with just in time for playoffs.

Under SouthPaw's wisdom the team will continue with what works. This includes watching the tape of their potential opponents looking for weaknesses to be taken advantage off while taking note of areas of our own game that need shoring up.

The bye week a double edged sword, the team enjoys the time to rest up and heal. In parallel, nervous anticipation ripples through the locker room each practice as the team itches to get back on the ice to finish what they started. At this point the Timber have the confidence to know that the cup is theirs for the taking, to bring back to the forest where it belongs.

Since my player, Leonard Wood, has missed the playoffs with the Colorado Raptors, he will instead focus on the upcoming season. Wood will first prepare with a rigorous workout program consisting of strength building and cardio. Then he will focus on his hockey skills back home in Madison at local outdoor rinks or the community rink. He's hoping to reconnect with some old teammates.

Then he will also take a much needed rest to recharge and come back mentally refreshed for the next season. He plans on taking it easy playing some video games, reading books, and listening to some vinyl on his record player. Leonard loves to get outside to relieve stress too. You'll find him hiking, biking, camping, and fishing this off season in southern Wisconsin.

Leonard will then come back to Colorado refreshed and ready to take on the next season. The expectations for Colorado will be a mile high, coming off of the bad season in S73. Leonard Wood will be up for the challenge.

Celly's playoff preparations have consisted of a death cycle of hockey practice and then immediately leaving hockey practice at its conclusion to go play soccer. They insist that it's good for their mental and for their game IQ.
The team, on the other hand? As a whole? QCC has been bumping their pregame playlist and training hard to improve on the things they're already good at (and some of the ones that they really are not particularly good at). They have been teaching their new goalie the ways and rules of Dennys and the cult of Net Man, now revealed to have been franchise legend Tyler Ward all along. (They have also been drilling said new goalie on how to be as effective as possible during line changes. This is obviously something that needs to be drilled, just like any keepaway, pass sequence, or shot placement drill.)
They have also been ruthlessly shitposting to get their mentals up. Mental is everything. Mental can make or break your season. So the Citadelles INSIST on having good mental.

The Colorado Raptors of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League ended the season seventy three with a record of 27-35-4 which gives them a total of 58 points, finishing 12th in the league. Being in a 4 team division, Colorado sadly didnt make the playoffs so the players started their offseason earlier than they wanted. For rookie Oranj Konhe, this meant he had to go back where it all began, on the highway. GM New York Rangers Seventy and Three took Konhe on a trip to the highway where Konhe reunited with his thermoplastic brethrens. Oranj Konhe and his friend Traphik trained all summer moving the cars out of the construction workers way, checking them out of the way. Next season will be a turning point for the first thermoplastic player in the league as the draft comes close and the young defenseman gaining more responsability in the lineup

The Kelowna Knights missed the playoffs, which means it is Jerry Moonshine's favorite time. Moonshine Time.

Jerry will be out hitting the bars Ovechkin style for 2 days to get his mind off a disappointing season, but after that he will be back at it training for next season. Kelowna is going places and Jerry needs to be ready.

As a playmaker Jerry will be out on the ice running passing drills until he becomes an unstoppable passing machine. No shots, only passes all day, everyday... but sometimes a shot is kind of like a pass and ends up in the net, and that is ok, because everything is a pass if you think about it... Jerry has been hitting the moonshine a little bit already, maybe he shouldn't have written this in the 2 day bender...

Jerry will be ready (and sober) come next season and Kelowna are going to make a big splash.

We at the Elk have done so many different line combos and drills that we aren't sure which position anyone plays anymore!!

We have been doing 1v1s, 2v2s 3v3s 4v4s 5v5s and 6v6s, then 1v2s 2v3s, 4v3s 5v3s and finally 6v3s.

We had to do bagged skates for every single shot we missed. We had to watch every hockey film, from mighty ducks to mighty ducks 9, quackers revenge.

We put itch cream into the goalies jerseys. We aren't allowed to go home, we have to stay in hotels as a team. We aren't allowed to shower until we score a goal. I haven't showered in 5 days, and running. The zamboni driver quit so we have to resurface the ice with a squeegee and flame thrower. That part is fun.

At our team dinners we eat one at a time, with who scores the most (Bayle) down to who scores the least (me.) I've lived off candy from the hotel lobby.

Lastly, we have to sleep 10 hours a day to get plenty of rest.

Paul Bondage definitely got a smack of reality coming into the SMJHL this past season. His confidence was sky high, certain he'd be one of the biggest impacts on his team, only to finish as one of the lowest point scorers (albeit he is a defenseman). Bondage is going to head back to his hometown of Berlin, Germany and enjoy a few weeks of relaxation. While there's no playoffs to celebrate, that doesn't mean there's nothing to celebrate. He just finished his very first season in the SMJHL. While it certainly could have gone better, he knows he's going to come back next season stronger and even better than before. That's not something to brush aside. After a few weeks of enjoying his German brews (which he very much missed), he's going to be hitting it back in the gym, working on both his offensive and defensive capabilities.

No one really expected the Citadelles to be as good as they were this year, so them making the playoffs is kind of a shock, to both the league and players. The QCC rookies will have to catch their nerve, as its all for nothing, and if they can hit ground running, who knows how far the rookies can take this team.
I would be saying this if we weren't already knocked out. Now the QCC rookies are getting ready for the draft and WJC, and for some of them the IIHF as well. It was a disappointing loss for them but they tried their hardest and sometimes the underdog doesn't win. Besides getting ready for all the other stuff, the QCC rookies have been mourning the upcoming loss of Net Man, the man behind the rookie's push for glory. Besides mourning, there have been a couple trips to denny's to make ourselves feel better after losing

To prepare for the playoffs the Carolina Kraken have been practicing extra hard to make sure we have our hair braids down pat so we look our best for the home crowd. Once those braids are down and committed to memory we worked on making sure we know the proper places on the ice to do the braiding to block the most possible shots from opposing players. Even Denebor is working on his braiding to make sure he does his part in the team's game plan. After all of that is figured out the Kraken will do some actual hockey practice to make sure they all still remember how to play the game in case a game is close and they need to play in overtime or something like that. Other than that the Kraken are focused on team bonding and getting some relaxation in before the stress of the playoffs. Ultimately this is a close knit bunch and the most important thing is that they build on those bonds going into the playoffs.

Well with the bye week for us we decided to start off with a little rest and relaxation just to kind of let the bodies heal up a little bit. Trips to the spa and massages, a couple days off just to spend with our friends and family and unwind a little bit. Then we were right back on that grind though. Practice every day and preparing game tape for who we would possibly play, which we do know now is Newfoundland. We've gone over the tape 1000 times, we've run every play we can and meticulously went through every one to see what we can keep getting better. I think mentally and physically a team couldn't be better prepared, but we all know the game is actually played out there on the ice and not in practice. So we're going to give it our best and that is all we can do. It will be a hell of a match up.
