S80 SMJHL PT #6 - One Season at a Time Due: Sunday, January 26th @ 11:59 PM PST
#16

Overall, a pretty disappointing season from my player! We managed to sneak into the playoffs, but we had a pretty poor season as a whole. I ended up with 11 points, three of those being goals. My goal for the season was originally 15 goals and 15 assists, so I completely missed the mark there. Also I think my player was like -65? Pretty pathetic hahaha, but we were two rookies on the same pairing, so I think it was always going to be a challenge.

As a league member, I did okay. I think I ended up missing two PTs, which sucks. But in my defense, one was over Christmas and I had my kids! So it was a whirlwind. But I’m still here, still active. Had a fun season as an SMJHL intern, made some money and chatted with some good people. I’m looking forward to a return next season, hopefully things can only go up from here for Sazed Kholin/Theflash!

Captain Obvious came into the season with relatively low expectations for himself offensively. He wanted to play a strong defensive minded game and in that regard he believes he performed relatively well. Tallying 50 blocked shots in the regular season and 78 hits, he proved that a rookie can be physical against the entire league, regardless of how much of a superstar or how far along their careers may be.

Captain Obvious also spent time on the penalty kill team, where he proved that the Tidal could shut down opposing power play units, helping to put up the second best PK% in the league this season at 82.9%, and impressive number for a team that had struggles throughout the season due to it's youth.

While not offensively focused, Captain Obvious was able to tally 17 goals and 18 assist for 25 total points in 66 games. While not an overwhelming number, it is more than expected by himself, and the league, with his skillset and truly helped the Tidal win their first round matchup against Nevada as well.

All in all, Captain Obvious is happy with his rookie debut and hopes to follow it up with an even stronger sophomore season, hoping to propel the Tidal into a Final very soon.

I had a great season but I would have liked to play a few more games. I will have the opportunity to do so next season given the departure of Zamboni. I want to develop my player like never before. I hope that he haunts the thoughts of my opponents. I will probably focus on specific stats in the future to make a good goalkeeper. The goal is to be able to demonstrate that I can be a real number one like the teams I face. It is important that in the stands, the fans shout Ully, Ully. That is the perspective of my thinking. I had good teammates this season. Five veterans are leaving us and I just learned that the assistant general manager is also leaving us. There is a lot of movement but I am ready to take the risk to keep the fort united. There is no question of making others believe that we are weak.

Overall I think it was a highly successful first season in the pros. Being a defender it's always hard to pile up a bunch of points but being a rookie and posting over 30 of them was a big accomplishment for me and definitely exceeded expectations. Something I would have liked to been more successful with was blocked shots; crossing the 100 mark was pretty big on my mind but fell way short of it, but it's something I'll be looking to hit next season. Making it so deep into the playoffs was also nice to see, eventually falling short to the Kraken in the conference finals. Knowing just how strong our team is and that we should be just as good - if not slightly better - next season is promising. I think the main personal goals for next season is to be a PPG player with over 100 blocked shots; that would be my ideal personal season, and of course winning the cup finally.

This was certainly a season of growth and learning for Optimus Autonomous. One that should go a long way in improving their ability to read and react to the unpredictability of humans. Given their lack of experience and the general questioning of whether or not a robot could compete with humans, Optimus was “happy” to step into more of a supporting role on the first line for the Ottawa Highlanders. Though it wasn’t the glory they had envisioned, Optimus was able to use the opportunity of often being matched against the best players the opposing team had to offer. As a result, there was noticeable improvement in all aspects of their game as the season progressed after a slow start. Optimus finished the season with 5 goals and 36 assists for a total of 41 points in their rookie season. Though their shooting percentage and faceoff percentage leave a lot to be desired, those are things that can be worked on in the offseason.

The playoffs are where we really saw the improvements Optimus had made near the end of the season. With 8 points in 13 games, a 12% shooting percentage, and a faceoff percentage of 55.9%, I expect to see significant improvements for Optimus Autonomous in their second season with the Highlanders.

While it was a purely developing season for many at the Grizzlies, we also tried our hardest. That may not mean much after a first round exit, but it does to us and our families. Outten tried. He really did. That came with a hot start at bat going nearly ppg through the first 10 of his career. But ultimately his hot streak would cool down and he would end with 19 points in 54 games, and a very very sad minus 35 for his Plus minus. Things certainly could have gone better, but we did have some fun in the playoffs. With 3 points in his 5 games, Outten had two clutch assists to extend the series to 5 in the only sign of life the Grizzlies would put up this playoffs. It ended up not mattering but, it did indicate that he has the potential to do more than just look handsome on the ice. For next season should see him raising his stock.

I did not perform very well gabe johnson. I did really bad, but that is kind of just how rookies rock out these days. I am looking forward to the future on this player for sure, though. No worries there. The draft is in a week or so and I hope to go to a fun team. Hopefully next season I'll be able to produce some more and put some damage down on the goal and assists front. I actually did score a decent amount of goals this season I guess, just not really like enough to do the big time. I think we're poised for a big time season next year in Thunder bay, and the league better watch out for these weird ass fish to put some numbers on the ice and really do some new good stuff. Maybe I will be like top 15 in points next season, that would be cool too.

This first season with the San Diego Tidal had its ups and downs for myself as well as for the whole team. Overall, we did not finish quite as high in the regular season standings as we would have hoped to reach, but we did give the Carolina Kraken a run for their money in the second round of the playoffs and we have a young team so we are hopeful we can get better next season. Individually, I played for .500 as a rookie goalie, sharing the net with Cauliflower Pizza, which wasn't too bad. However in the playoffs Cauli got the upper hand, and I was happy to trust him as our number one goalie for that playoff run. I am now in a place where I am wondering if Cauli could be the best way to go for our team in net and maybe I can contribute otherwise. I have played defense a lot growing up and I think I could still pick it up easily. I have to make a decision soon.

Task: You just played out your very first season in the SMJHL to start a new chapter in your career. Overall, how would you say you performed in your rookie season? Did you meet expectations you set for yourself individually? What do you need to improve on for next season? Were there any glorious moments that will forever be enshrined in your memory? (150 words min.)

I mean I could not really have hoped for a better start with my new Goalie player Honza Havran now could I have? In a season that would essentially be a split season with other CAR goalie Matt Retinol. Honza finished with 27 wins with was tied for 4th best in the league. He achieved this having only played in 36 games, for a total record of 27-4-2. He would confortably finish first in the GAA category with 2.43 GAA, compared to the next best goalie who had a 2.70 GAA. He finished 2nd in Save% with a 0.913 save percetange, just shy of the number one goalie who recorded a 0.915 save percetange. If it wasn't for a couple of poor games at the end of the season Havran would have likely finished first in that category, which is a position he held for most of the season actually, just let it go at the end sadly. Finally he also recorded the 2nd highest amount of shutouts with 5 on the season.

I am aware that Honza did play that split goalie duty so who knows if he could have had such numbers in a season where he played more games. However that does not take away how happy I was with his play this season.

The whalers made my rookie season amazing, we have such a good group and an amazing atmosphere even when we lost we all had a great time, Lancer definitely had a far better season than he was anticipating having and really started to come into his own and learn his role by the end, he's very excited for the next year

His favourite memory is scoring his only game winning goal this year,.he will always keep that puck and bring it in his bag to remind him of that accomplishment,

The things he wants to work on improving for next year is to bring his cardio and speed up as he was finding himself slowing by the end of the game with as much as he was being played, and to keep working on his defensive capabilities to keep the blue line locked down and to block more shots for next year to ease the workload of our amazing goalie

As I stand on the precipice of a new day with an open mind and full heart I believe it is important to look back at the long, winding road I traversed to reach this point. I look back at my first season in the SMJHL and what I see brings a smile to my lips. I, Nobel winner Paul Krugman, have done something comparable to an injection of capital into a faltering market by providing stability to the defense of the Yukon Malamutes. Much like the namesake of our club, a noble and distinguished breed renowned for their possession of both the strength and endurance required to drag heavy sleds across the unforgiving arctic environs, I have joined my fellow defensemen as a veritable pack. A single unit composed of many Malamutes, moving together to power the sleigh that is our team and joyfully carrying the cargo of our fans hopes for victory! While not quite as impressive as Balto and his sleigh of medicine, I think it's still pretty sweet. I am a good dog.

Prior to the start of the season, I joined with a high aspiration to be the best player of my draft class and potentially of all time. I can say I am the best player of my draft however it was one hell of a race with DC and other top notch rookies like servinn quinn. I got off to a pretty rocky start as I pretty much had 10 less points then DC, however at the end i clutched it up and accomplished my goal. However, next season, I am aiming even higher. I want to be a dominant player in the league, and to prove to others that I am a dominant force and I'll get 100+ points in my 2nd season. And just like any good player, i have a plan to meet my goals: hit the gym. Thats pretty much my solution to anything. Is it a bit much? Yes, yes it is. But does it work? Yes, yes it does.

Year one is done, and I would say that, overall, it has been a very successful year. Team-wise, we honestly way overperformed, especially considering that we managed to keep most of our prospects active that we got through the draft. We actually won way more games than people initially thought we would, which was pretty surprising. And, to be honest, we won so much that our GM even had a bit of a mini panic over what to do, mainly because we really aren’t even supposed to be winning yet. Personally, I have completely max earned and totally hit all of my TPE goals, which is honestly a great feeling. When all is said and done, I should end up somewhere around 10th in my draft class, which is pretty solid. On the ice, I think I performed all right. I didn’t exactly score as much as I originally wanted to, but overall, I feel like I played pretty well and really helped the team significantly.
