Detroit could pay him as much as the Sabres, but apparently they aren't willing to. If there is one thing that most reports agreed on then it is that both the Leafs- and the Sabres offers would pay Babcock a good 1-2 million more than the Wings one.

That is the reason I brought that up in the first place, SHL knows more than those sources though didn't you know that. Hmm

Only reason it seems more true now than before is because Datsyuk seems to have lost a step, and you can't replace Datsyuk easily. I doubt they lose THAT big a step, but I see them not being nearly as big of contenders once Dats is done.

Also most all reports about salary have been speculation. If Babs signs in Buffalo, it won't be because of the money.

Losing in the first round 3/4 years now is slightly disheartening as their core continues to age.

Whoa now, that is the same as can't match if hes not going to match. That means he refuses, or for whatever reason will not spend that much on his coaching staff. What is your point here?

Edit: What he is worth versus what he will SPEND on his team is completely different things.

You do realize what I said? I was talking about Ken Holland and he can't match the Sabres on his own. He is NOT the owner, he can say that but its the owners choice if he spends that much. I'm not sure the confusion here, sorry.

Ilitch isn't going to stop Holland from spending money on Babcock if he wants to, so that makes no difference.

The only reason the Wings were not a cap team this year is because they struck out on every good free agent. Ilitch let's Holland spend.

Ar, all I'm saying is that we've heard they are unwilling to pay as much as Buffalo, and possibly Toronto's offers were. I'm not criticizing Ilitch or the Red Wings, I'm repeating what I have heard. Holland saying that is wonderful, but if they actually won't match, as reports have said, then thats that.

I can't sit here and tell you the Red Wings have more money to spend than Buffalo, if that is what you want me to say, because that would also be false. All I'm referring to is hearing that the Sabres offer has, and is the highest. Red Wings are great, they have a wonderful owner, I don't mean to offend your team's finances by my comment about Holland.

It might end up being a control issue, Murray is a fairly controlling GM it feels like to me, could be an issue.

Breaking: buffalo offers 5 million a few months after wings offer 3 million. Apparently wings can't make a second offer because buffalo media said so.

I'm going by the Detroit reporters who have been on sports radio here saying Wings unlikely to match that offer. Who knows.
