[POLL] Changes to Salary/Contract Rules

I like these ideas.

My only concern with the second one is that it may be tricky to get everything organized in time, but that may not be a significant obstacle.

2nd point is a stretch timing-wise, I get it, but the earlier we start it, the sooner we see the effects. Contracts are posted publicly, and since this is an adjustment, not a renegotiation, I don't know how long it would take, really. Hell, I'll volunteer to check contracts.

So complete your contract, or fuck the team?

Brb getting traded to Portland and signing for 5 seasons then retiring this offseason

Also, hometown discount for players in regression tbh

i didnt read ahead so this mightve gotten said but this isnt true. I was casual most of my shl career and (humblebrag) was one of the highest tier defenders throughout a lot of my career

How are we defining "casual" though? Is it in Media? TPE? Discord/LR activity? PTs completed?

I think you can absolutely be "casual" in the sense that if you have enough contract money, all you would need to do is do PTs and train/activity checks. That's three/four things to do a week. Hell, you'd only ever need to talk to anyone to sign new contracts. It'd suck a lot of fun out of it for me, but you could build a successful player that way, I'd wager.

If you get rid of the hometown discount, the new system will normalize, and teams trying to make room for older players whom are looking to make a run (as well as players trying to jump on good teams toward the "end") at the end of their careers shouldn't have a problem doing so. Otherwise, you're just lowering the average cost per TPE across the league, and you're essentially circumnavigating the cap.

How long can a 1500+ TPE player be in regression and continue to be a good player? 5, 7 seasons? That's a long time to allow it. Want to make it truly special? Allow it in the LAST year of any player's career, in a deal that's signed for that season. You get 1 shot to play for half the min contract anywhere you want.

I really dislike the part about player retirement. We get a bunch of "sry for screwing the team that drafted me but I'll recreate for the 15th time now kthx" and it's kinda unfair to add a penalty to the team when they can't do anything about player retirements.

no its the opposite. I really only claimed activity checks and talked to people, nothing else about my player. I never ran into the problem of my team not being able to afford me but it would suck

Well, first of all I'm not sure why we're the example Eyebrow .

Second, I think that there's GM accountability at play here. It's my job to evaluate whether you would be worth signing long-term at this stage in your career, just like a "real" GM. Also if I wasn't thinking you would sign long-term and play it out, why would I trade for you? I suppose you could screw me over, but every decision has its risks.

Hm, so you didn't train and do PTs? How'd you grow your player?

First of all, I'm not worth signing at all ;Wink

Second, Portland is a solid up and coming team, so I felt they would be a good example of a team that might feel the effect of getting boned moreso than others. I thought of it as a compliment I guess >:D<

I think that's a bit different than what we're talking about when we say "casual." Wink

I took PB's use of the word to mean players that grow slowly over time due to low activity, but still want to enjoy the social aspects of being amongst teammates they have friendships with. They aren't really gonna do media and PTs, but they can still be relied on to train and do ACs- the GM can decide whether the social aspect is worth paying a little extra for to keep them valuable as a player.

I mean t still would've effected me the same way. The only reason I was still here at some points was the blizzard LR. If at the end of one of my contracts tez or jedi would've told me I could only take a hometown discount to stay I wdon't old enough. Or I would've signed somewhere else and gone inactive most likely. I was still casual at that point just like those other players but I was elite
