Expansion
#31

Expansion only becomes a topic of discussion when we have so many actives on most teams, that new players never see ice time. That is not the case here and this should be put aside until we get another great recruitment drive or two.

Yeah that was my point. I can't think of many teams that I see as inactive, any teams come to mind for you?

I mean the number of active players. You don't really see a lot of Jet players posting anywhere.

I think there already is a fairly big amount of teams where young players will be stuck to the 3rd and especially 4th lines not just for their Rookie-seasons, but for the time after as well. Not a lot of spots opening up on each team, but 3-4 active guys per draft coming in for a lot of them, even more for some.

We're nowhere near ready for expansion, there's still like 2-3 teams in the SHL right now that don't even have enough actives to fill out their lineup without inactives (Some with only a line of actives if that). Until we reach the point where every team is full and we have a surplus of actives, it in no way makes sense.

You're right about that, that's why I talked about teams like LA and Winnipeg where I only see the same 3-4 guys posting in the forums. But I think those are still quite active teams because there always are players who rarely visit the main board but are very active in the LR, or don't say much at all but still update their player.

I think you aren't looking at all the teams, because over half have room for their rookies to step into the line-up once they are selected. There are maybe 1 or 2 with no room for young players. We need to be at the point where most if not all are in that situation before we even think about expansion otherwise we are sacrificing the competiveness of the league and activity as a whole, we need to be incredibly strong before we think about this, especially after seeing how inconsistent the recruitment drives have been.

We NEED to cut 2 teams from the NWJHL.

Imo the ones who havent won anything would be the best, not sure how many there are, i know the Knights Birds Impacts won a cup and the Whalers shouldnt be touched.

I'd say keep the Falcons aswell.

Remove two of Boston, LA or Washington

I think we should move away from the idea of having a Roster with 20 Actives. It is a nice idea and the "logical" goal everyone wants to achieve, but some positions just aren't very fun to be in. If you are a guy on the 4th-line or the Back-Up-Goalie and there isn't much perspective for you or a spot opening up in the near future, you will lose interest pretty fast. I think 14-16 Actives per team is a good number, we probably aren't there yet either, but I think we are getting there and should already plan for the time when we reach this goal.

Do more research lol. There's like 5 guys that are even truly active on that team with like 2-3 that are semi-active. They don't even have 2 lines of active players.

And they aren't alone either.
