more pointing that if you pay gms a little bit, its not exactly easier than just writing media for a small amount

As <a href='index.php?showuser=2327' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-69'>ztevans</a> has pointed out to me multiple times. We had a guy get paid for talking about robots in a podcast.

Why can't we get a little pay for our work we put in?

Listen, man, the podcast wasn't about robots. It was about the robot apocalypse. Get it right.

Fuck KleslaR and fuck me forever for listening to that.

You done fucked up.

I have no strong opinions on this topic. As a member of SMJHL HO who has seen various HOs at work in various leagues, I do have a small hint of apprehension that paying people for this job would keep people in it who need to get out sometimes, which I suppose makes me one of the old-school bad guys. But whatever.

Just come out and say that you hated the Maxy and Merica regime. Who didn't? Some of the dumbest decisions made in the SMJHL were during that time. But it has nothing to do with paying the GMs.

During that time one of the greatest SMJHL classes ever came into the league (S30). The biggest problem in the SMJHL during that time was slacker GMs. And guess what? You can't really blame them because there was no motivation to keep going if nobody gives two fucks what you do and you get no pay.
I don't want to say that, especially in the suggestion box of all places, as I believe approaching things from a professional and analytic angle is best for the league and discussion.

You seem to be arguing about me generalizing actions with user types in your first paragraph, but then generalize in the second paragraph. I assure you I certainly did my duties and did, in fact, "give two fucks" as did my players and alumni about what I did even without pay, and I'd do it again.

Anyway, we are nearly off-track now and I'm very confused what led us here. I merely offered up a suggestion and then I was torn into rather unfairly. Now that the compromise from past discussion has been met with discourse, I feel we can comfortably move on from this now mute point, can we not?

I gave all my justification in my last post, I appreciate your determination behind this and I by no means mean to impede it. Any more conflict is taken personally, however if you have any more constructive thoughts to offer, do be my guest.

I think Arty's point is that SMJHL jobs are better for newer members to begin with, and typically most people probably GM there first before getting an SHL position.

That can't happen if you have veteran members sticking around in both league for the paycheck.

It brings up a lot of potential issues of over time, people losing time/interest in GMing, but keeping the job because they need the paycheck to keep their player going.

Not only does that keep those people in the position, it would stop SMJHL GMs from getting promotions, and thus prevent newer members from getting SMJHL jobs. It could stop up the whole cycle.

There's not really much benefit other than giving established members more money than they already have. By the looks of it, close to half, if not more, of the GMs have plenty of money in the bank right now, over 20 mil, and really paying them doesn't help anyone.

There's a lot of risks mostly with the increased number of people who would want the job, because not only do you get the prestige of being a GM, you also get a sweet paycheck.
Thank you for your contributions and well put.

Well I do feel such risks are unlikely, they are indeed possible, hence why I tried to bring them up earlier.

I apologize, my ultimatum of sorts was hasty and immature.

I just was feeling the heat and I couldn't figure out why.

To be honest, I'm glad people like <a href='index.php?showuser=1119' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>artermis</a> and <a href='index.php?showuser=2458' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-13'>Symmetrik</a> actually say things on here to start a conversation.

I do agree with Sym though, my bank account is big enough, don't get me wrong, I would love to be paid, but I think a better alternative would be to have a management budget, and I do remember one, don't know whatever happened to it, but it could be watch dogged to make sure it is getting used for what it should be.

The reason I'd rather that then a salary is because there is way more then just two people running any team at any level. In Montreal we have a 'management team' of former GM's around here that chime in to help out, and then you have your team leaders who help everyone do whatever, I'd feel way better paying those guys because most of the locker room guys are new in the SMJHL and don't have the big bank accounts, but still put in work most people don't see.

Can't speak for the SHL so much as the SMJHL (the SHL got rid of management budget first), but in our case only one or two teams were actually using it to pay people who were either GMs or helping out with management (i.e.: Avakael for scouting in Detroit when Finn and I were GMs ... we split the 3m three ways, 1m apiece). Instead, teams were using it to lure FAs, not reward users on their team who helped out in the ways you illustrated and described. I would imagine the circumstances were pretty similar in the "big league."
