There are indeed Italian users who are invested and enthuasiastic, so the sarcasm is honestly pretty harsh. I was thrilled to submit an application for Italy and I would have looked forward to perhaps motivate people to create Italian players going down the road.

Also isn't it part of the Fantasy to take a "bad" hockey nation (Italy had good times, just not nowadays) and make your own luck in a Sim league?

With that being said, I'm happy to see many people come out in support of a Quebec IIIHF team and wish them best of luck going forward.

Very sorry for the driveby, you’re right that the sarcasm was harsh. I was mostly trying to make the point that there is a very obvious reason for Quebec to exist in the IIHF landscape, but burying Italy in the process was unnecessary. Hopefully Italy in IIHF can be a reality soon.

Italy might have to focus on the Fifa success first

How many japanese users do we have? How many french (like european french) users do we have? How many actual irish users do we have? How many czech users do we have? This isn’t really a great argument as to why those countries shouldn’t be considered.

except it is because quebec has a significant userbase and enthusiasm that all of those countries do not have, which is why those countries (other than ireland) tend to not succeed. Why would any of those nations do better than Quebec?

Im not saying Quebec doesn’t have a user base at all. I’m just saying your argument wasn’t a good argument.

You said those countries shouldn’t be considered because their user base is smaller, but that has never been a reason to not consider a region here clearly.

except my argument was based on the fact that quebec has a great userbase, which other candidates did not have, making it a better candidate. are you trolling or

I edited my post above but I’ll copy and paste what i said there.

Those countries exist in IIHF because people wanted to make them. We are adding one team cause Russia is gone. More people want quebec than italy. IIHF pick quebec.

Of course its a considreation. Do you think Czechia existed in IIHf before Canada? name one time a new fed was picked over another even though the userbase was worse. Mr. bad argument

Quebec is so obviously a unique situation here. You call my arguments bad when you're on record in this thread saying that having a team in quebec is like having team texas, team catalonia and team cascadia. both texas and cascadia do not have anywhere near the modern history of seeking independence that Quebec does, and catalonia is obviously not a hockey nation so nobody has considered it, but if there were enthusiasm i dont see why not.

Quebec not only has a distinct history as a nation and a unique identity in terms of political sovereignty, but it has a unique identity in hockey too, where it dominated for the first 70 years of organized hockey. Pretending like this is some random province that we're giving preference to is either bad faith or misinformed. Quebec existed long before Canada as we know it, and I think people who have no knowledge of the situation popping in and saying its not a real country so this is cringe is just insane.

@Waters not gonna argue against quebec having a unique identity and all that, its all true 100%. Texas and Cascadia definitely do have modern separatist movements and unique cultures though. And i more think its very silly that we are removing russia, one of the most storied and important nations when it comes to hockey, when there were applicants to keep them. That is where my gripes lie. I understand that there are people who want to play for Quebec. But I don’t think it should come at the expense of team Russia. Quebecois already have Canada to play for, and if they really want to support their french side, team france also exists

@Waters to follow up, I really wouldn’t have a problem if Quebec was getting a team through an IIHF expansion or by removing one of the smaller and less populated nations. But removing russia is just plain wrong imo, current events aside. Especially when there were applicants to save the nation

The reason the other countries don't succeed has nothing to do with the amount of users from there.
