S79 PT #2: Person's Best Friend Due: Sunday, October 27th @ 11:59 PM PST

written option 1

There is not really any discussion when the GM asks for any pet proposals.
Pretty much everyone says the same thing at once.
“We want a wookie and we want it now”
The GMs face after hearing the suggestion was priceless.
A month later at a regular team meeting the GM proudly presents and introduces his lates addition to the team, the Wookie Admiral Urro as the team pet.
Unfortunately the GM wasnt able to get hold of a real wookie, so its only a trained bear, dressed up as a wookie.
Even if the bear seems pretty well trained the whole team sighs big with a big relieved breath as they are told the team pet will have its own professional caretaker who will make sure the bear get the right food and doesnt start any trouble.
Not everyone is thrilled about the news about having a bear as a team pet. Bur after spending som time with Urro everybody seems to change their mind, realizing that their wish for a real wookie probably was a little to harsch.
At the end of the meeting a pretty long discussion starts, about how the schedule should be made for when who in the team has the responsibility of the bear, and its caretaker.

The team support staff is the lifeblood of any successful hockey team, and almost any player will tell you that when asked. From the equipment managers to the physios to the travel agents that get us across the country in a matter of hours, the small army of people who take care of everything outside of games are what keep us able to play at a high level every single night. That said, the medical staff in the SHL stands out as the best in the business. Sure, we get tired and sore game after game, especially with the absurd number of back to back games the league higher ups seem content to schedule us, but when was the last time we had a serious injury in the SHL? Going back decades, no player has missed even a single game for medical reasons! I dare you to find a more successful medical staff in all of professional sports.

Option 1:

First thought, we are the Pride get a lion... that one was rejected pretty damn quickly with HR. I mean that would be bad ass, we could put it's home beside the visiting locker room so they had to pass by it on the way to the ice. Could you imagine an actual lion passing as you walked by, growing stalking you... would give us an mental edge.

After HR, or as we like to call them the party poopers, said no. We pivoted to a second choice. And we got Asland and his Pride, Mufasa, Simba, Kimo an Lambert. An entire school of lionfish in a huge aquarium right in our dressing room.

I must say at first I didn't get it. I am more of a pick them up and cuddle with them kind of animal guy. You know a dog, cat, maybe a miniature donkey. A something you can physically love. But the longer we have these fish the more I am falling for them.

The hold themselves with pride as they swim in the aquarium. They are a constant in our room and we each take turns feeding them and cleaning their living space. The Aquarium is like a piece of art in the locker room. The added responsibility of their care had bonded the team in ways we did not expect. Plus they act like a shrink to share our thoughts and feeling with. They have become more than pets they are now family.

Any team worth its salt will have a well oiled machine behind the scenes to help out its players in any way. The Montreal Patriotes are probably the leading team in the SHL in terms of team personnel. We really strive to find unconventional ways to make our team prosper and our team owner really isn't shy about spending money to make the team better. One of the new team personnel that was hired is our new team chemist. Look, I can already see the frowns on your faces, she's not that kind of chemist. Obviously we're not here to cheat, but sometimes you can bend the rules, you know? We're just trying to make the playoffs faster and potentially win a Challenge Cup within the next decade. She's already cooked up some disgusting concotions but fuck me if I haven't played my best games ever since drinking that brown slimy drink. Once she perfects her recipe, I'm sure we'll be one of the top teams in the standings to look out for.

Graphic Option 1:

Some chihuahua that's been here ever since I got here.  I assume it's the team's pet mascot. Idk.

Option 2

Shadow Fenix has had a very good relationship with his agent. His agent has been the one to negotiate brand deals and earn Fenix more money. His agent has been the one posting on chirper in the late hours of the night, fighting with randos that try to talk bad about the Seattle Argonauts. Fenix's agent was one of those who spoke with reporters about the money laundering going on in the league. Thankfully, the agent is always on the side of the player, and the agent made sure to make sure nothing could be traced back to Fenix. For that, Fenix knows his agent has his back, and he will have his agent's back in return. In conclusion, Shadow Fenix is in love with his agent--wait what, when did this turn into that kind of PT?? Anyway, it may not be love, but there's something there, and I'm going to get to the bottom of it.

Physiotherapists, personal trainers, dieticians, and positional coaches have all made their way into Violet Stoica's inner circle. She's still a relatively young player, but Violet highly values any additional staff who can help keep her ready and essentially in game shape even during the offseason, and the first three of those listed do exactly that. She's experienced enough at this point to know the team's tactics overall quite well, although she's not so cocky that she can't take direction from positional coaches. She's been through one SMJHL and one SHL team at this point, each with slightly different management styles and very different tactical styles -- and she's made the transition from a largely defensively-focused, penalty-killing forward to a slightly more offensive forward with time in her five and a half seasons, and none of that happens if she 1) doesn't have the physical chops to accomplish the role or 2) doesn't have guidance from more experienced players and coaches.

Thanks @Amidships!

Written Option 2

Petr's entire life and body is managed and maintained by Czechia-funded team of the nation's best doctors, physiotherapists, surgeons, dieticians, personal trainers, and hockey minds. All of this is to keep the experiment that is Petr going for as long as his mission needs doing, in the name of his county. His entourage of course includes State Security assets, as a result of his being owned by the nation and being an incredibly expensive experiment into human engineering, one step shy of super soldiers. Since Petr works 24/7 intending to further his abilities with every waking moment, he needs as large of a team as possible to cut out all unnecessary aspects of life in order to make hockey his one and only occupation. Through this dedication, teamwork, and nationalism, Petr will become the greatest hockey players possible, and help lead Czechia to its inevitable gold, at all costs.

So our team pet is a dog. It’s a malamute named Vladimir or vladdy as a nickname name. Sadly for me, Burly Earl (Biggins)gets to spend most of the time with Vladdy outside the rink but he allows me to have him every other weekend and during our away games because he doesn’t want to hotel with all that hair! Vladdy has free rein of our rink and practice facilities. He likes to visit the cafeteria a lot and eat the leftovers that our boys didn’t eat after whatever meal we just had. To get Vladdy ice ready we put little baby timberland boots in him and use hockey tape to wrap them up. He walks onto the ice a little goofy at first but once he feels comfortable he gets some exercise. He chases the pucks around and sometimes steals sticks! Vladdy rarely has accidents on the ice but we have a dedicated puddle crew in the ready if he does. His favorite thing to do on the ice is hang by the goalies. He licks the ice around them and the goalies squirt him with their water bottles. When he gets tired Vladdy gets into the goal net and lays down. The goalies have a game of it because they know they can’t miss a shot now because it will wake poor Vladdy!

As a team who is based around a panther, Los Angeles has decided they are going to get a team cat. Personally I used to be team dog but after living with a cat I’ve been converted so I’m thrilled with this decision.

The team cat will hang out at the rink and kind of do whatever he feels like. He’ll be around the bench and players, he’ll roam around the locker room and just hang out with the players and staff as he feels like it. We’ll set up his food and water near the players cafeteria area so he can eat with us and he’ll feel part of the team.

When we’re not at the rink the players will take turns taking him home when they’re in the city. If not, the staff will watch him and ensure he’s doing ok. Everyone loves a team pet and I think I can speak for everyone who lives with a pet that there’s nothing better than coming home and seeing your pet greet you. I think this is a great decision and I can’t wait to have a cat around the rink.

Call me lame, or a loser or anything along those lines, but Solaire is such a sucker for dogs, well, honestly, who isn't? So the Winnipeg Aurora, under the request of Solaire, have decided to get a team dog. It would be a big doggo, that someone on the team gets to take home, and then would also travel with the team on the road and stays at the team hotel while on the road as well. A motivator of sorts, but also just a big ol' loveable pupperino. Solaire would probably request something like a Cane Corso, or a Great Dane, or even an English Mastiff. You really just want to get a puppy that you can grab onto and just love and hold and have a big ol cuddler with you as well. Because, honestly, how could you go wrong with a big ol pup that will love you as much as you love it, and hell, probably love you more then you could even imagine.

Your trainers matter. Physio guys can extend your career if you get a good one. Equipment managers have a hard, non-stop, thankless job that keeps the team running. But all of those guys can go to hell. The most important person in the entire arena is the team's head chef. This is the only person in the world that matters. If you time your season schedule properly, you will never pay for a meal. They will feed you in the morning, after a practice, before a game, after the game. They'll prepare your meal for the plane on the way to another city to play. They fuel you and treat you to the best of the best. If everyone on the staff was drowning and you could only save one of them, this is the only choice that can be considered correct. Befriending them is crucial to your lifestyle, as you can head over to their house and have them prepare your food when they aren't at work. The off-season can be full of their meals too. Treat them at a level higher than you ever thought was possible to treat another human.

I used the Vancouver Whalers pet (the SMJHL team I co-GM) of a giant whale because I really wanted to use an image from the Webfishing game. Its a really fun fishing game on Steam and only 5 bucks

Option 1: The team needed some morale boost, after the quite middling start of the season, and after many long discussions the decision went towards getting a pet animal. The first obvious animal was of course the buffalo, but quite quickly that suggestion was voted against, of course Chicken’s suggestion was to have a pet chicken, but sadly not all of the team were as excited to have a chicken running around on the team bus with all their shenanigans. So the next few suggestions were the default animals, a dog, a cat, some small rodent. After all was done a dog was what was chosen for, and that is how the Buffalo Stampede got a little dog running around and being a general support dog for the team to look forward to in the bustrips to the other stadiums, and in the locker-room as the defacto second coach. In terms of who cared for the dog, at the moment it was a bit ad hoc, and the hope is that a system would be figured out before the end of the season.

Written prompt #1:

You may have heard of the movie An American Tail and it's sequel wherein Fievel goes west (oh, what the hell? Apparently there's four movies. TIL).

You might not, however, be familiar with "A Ukrainian Tale: Cajabi Goes West". Not a movie, but a real life story about a young man who packed his hockey bags and journeyed to North America. What does this have to do with pets? Unbeknownst to him, he had a stowaway with him. Somehow, slipping past the scrutiny of international customs, an albino rat managed to find his way into his equipment and make the trip with him. With no real friends yet upon arriving here, Cajabi decided to keep the rodent and named him Ratislav.
The intention was to leave his newfound pet at home when he went to the rink, but whenever he would go to leave, Ratislav would squeak loudly and frantically claw at his cage. Not wanting to upset his new friend and thinking it couldn't hurt for him to tag along, he put the rat into his hockey bag and brought it to the rink with him.
As bizarre as it may seem, now whenever Cajabi is on the ice, Ratislav is there with him inside of his hockey gear.. Much like in another rodent themed movie, Ratatouille.
All in all, Ratviy....I mean Matviy and Ratislav give a whole new meaning to the term "rink rat".

So while not officially a team pet, and rats aren't everyone's cup of tea, Ratislav would likely be up to the task of being in the locker room to help boost team morale. Just so long as Scott Mellanby isn't going to be making any surprise appearances.
