Nah if color wasnt a problem then ***** wudnt be a problem.

Im drinking so yeah.
So here's the thing, and I don't think you learned this in history class or english class. Originally, the term "*****" was coined as a derogatory term for Italians and Irish and so on. It was all about the ethnic minority, and didn't matter about skin color. It meant someone was lazy, couldn't get a job and couldn't keep it. Basically, the definition of the term is the people we now call druggies, or say are the people cheating the system by having a kid and using social security and unemployment checks.

The term originally wasn't exactly racial. However, it was always derogatory. To whichever ethnicity you are, it always meant something bad. So even if color didn't matter, didn't exist in any way, it would still be a derogatory term to use. Because it means something negative about the person you're using it for.

An old man's dream ended. A young man's vision of the future opened wide. Young men have visions, old men have dreams. But the place for old men to dream is beside the fire.

I think we can all agree that saying something like "my n****" and "you n****" are completely different in terms of context. I agree the word shouldn't get tossed around so freely, but idk how i feel about this. For me its like this.. I say "that's gay" which is a common word to say for something sucks.. but if i say "you are gay" well then i'm offensively attacking someone. So, saying "yo my n****" which is a common term used to say hey... whereas calling someone a n***** is directly attacking them. Things like this should just be judged by the context of what it is in. That's just my two cents though.

Yeahthat

basically what me and c were saying earlier in the thread

Going to keep this as my only post in this thread because I like avoiding shitstorms.

But.

When I was younger, my single mother and I lived in the free housing projects in Atlanta for three or four years. That word isn't something you said if you were white, no matter what circles you ran in. So don't talk to me about this sheltered white kid stuff.

Also, I had a long discussion with a friend a week or two ago about how he has to put on an Uncle Tom act around a lot of the people around here (NE Florida), because if he objects to one of his friends' family members calling him "*****" to his face, he doesn't know if he's going to make it home that day.

Just don't use the word. It's that easy. Nobody cares what it means to you - that's not the point and it never has been.
One of my best friends is black, from Atlanta and been through every step of the ghetto there. I say ***** to him a million times a day, and he lets me, know why? It's thought of as a term of respect.

SHL has rules. Personal attacks and offensive comments are not allowed. You can say them all you want outside of SHL. Inside of SHL you can not. It's quite simple.
***** isn't offensive, you guys are making it offensive.

Then why do blacks beat the shit out of white people who say the word? Just because it is a term of respect between you and your pal.....Doesn't mean that is the accepted ideology of it.

Wow makes so much sense that its thought as a term of respect. I guess when black people were slaves back in the day the owners were just trying to be respectful by calling them that.
