The season is barely 12 games old, but Horvat and Pettyfer already feel like they've played alongside each other for years.

When Pettyfer was brought to Texas during the offseason of S23, it was widely speculated that Oliver would be just another offensive weapon in an already bolstered forward core. Little would Texas know that one short offseason later, with the departures of McDavid, Byrde and Salmon, that Petty would become the go-to offensive threat on the Renegades offensive core.

However, any top offensive threat needs a go-to guy to get him the puck. Enter Maxim Horvat.

When Horvat was moved up to 1C alongside Thomas and Pettyfer, instant chemistry was found. They tore up the preseason, and carried that momentum onto the beginning of our young regular season.

"Yeah, it's been great playing with a player with the scoring touch and natural ability of Pettyfer. We've really clicked well over the course of the season and it's been nice to finally reach both of our top potentials together. It's looking really good so far"

Horvat and Pettyfer currently are identical on the stats sheet, making up numbers 2 and 3 on the Scoring leaderboard across the SHL. This is an extremely worrisome stat for any defense that has to deal with the emergence of these two stars on a nightly basis, especially when backed by one of the best 2C's in the league, Liam Kinsler.

Their relationship off the ice is even better.

"We're having a ton of fun right now together, me and Oliver. I've got a bit of a crush on his agent, too, and he's trying to hook it up for me. Super nice guy, we gel really well and it's nice to have a really close friendship on the team. Of course i'm close with everyone on the Renegades and always have been, but me and Olly have gotten along really well over the course of our time together."

Pettyfer has also taught Horvat, the notorious whore mongering alcoholic, how to act like a professional off the ice.

"I've always been improving off the ice but the last few years here in Texas, after 3 straight championships, I sort of lost sight of how to act off the ice as a professional. The whore mongering, the drinking, the partying... Oliver's helped me re-connect with what truly matters, which is the game of hockey, and I had a huge offseason because of it.

It's really fun to come to the rink when you're clicking this well and I just hope we can keep it up. The points are coming easy now but of course we will undergo tougher periods as the season progresses. The important thing is to have fun and enjoy going to the rink like we are now, and i'm confident we can set some records together as our careers progress playing with each other.

It's fun to experience success. It's more fun when you can experience it with somebody else. That's for sure"

Pettyfer on the duo: "[Me] and Horvat have that great chemistry between [us]. We can feel each other on the ice without even seeing one another. Just like Sedin twins without the twin part. This will be a great year for Petty and Horvat, there is no doubt about that."

For Texas, this duo could make or break a season where they were expected to vastly underperform after the loss of many star players.

Or perhaps, it was all in the hockey gods plan to pave the way for the next generation of elite Renegade players. With Horvat, Pettyfer, Kinsler, Thomas and company, the Renegades can once again enjoy being the offensive powerhouse the league has come to respect over the past years.
