<div align="center"> This article is about the S21 Draft Class and how everyone is doing, where are they and what does there future looks like for these young talented players I only talk about the first round also. In the end of the article I have re-draft of the first round.
Name: Tommy Creller Height: 6’2 Weight: 204 LBS Position: RW/LW TPE: 1074 Accomplishments: S22 Challenge Cup Winner S22 Anton Razov Winner Stats: S21: 52 GP, 13 G, 17 A, 30 P S22: 52 GP, 18 G, 21 A, 39 P S23: 52 GP, 17 G, 23 A, 40 P S24: 22 GP, 10 G, 9 A, 19 P Tommy Creller was selected first overall in the S21 draft and has proven he has lived up to the hype since then. When he got drafted they were no news that he would be sent down to the SMJHL he was always that guy to play and was SHL ready that showed up since he dropped 30 points in 52 games played in his rookie season which is outstanding to see. In his second season he put up something amazing, had a pretty good season as 2nd year player putting up 39 points in 52 games played. When the playoffs came around that’s when he went full on “Rozov Mode†where he put 20 points in 18 games that’s more than a point per game but also he went on to help his team win the Challenge Cup which no rookie in this draft class has done yet. He was also named Anton Razov winner that playoff series. Creller has played with great teammates such as Hawkins, Merica just to name a few but he deserves all this just because of his hard work putting up 1074 training hours already and he is in his 4th season in the league. Creller hasn’t disappointed as the first overall pick way back since he got drafted and it is safe to say that in the near future he will be able to help any team that needs him to lift a cup. We sat down with him and asked a few questions. 1. You were drafted #1 overall in the S21 draft and it is known to be a great draft, do you think you have lived up to the hype and the pressure of being #1? I knew the pressures that would come from being the first overall pick, especially after the hard time we gave Leonidas when he was picked 1st overall in the SMJHL. I know the Rage are very happy with the way I have progressed as a pick and I feel like I have definitely proven that I deserved the spot. It really could have been any of the top picks in the draft that went first overall and I am really honored that the Rage put their faith in me. 2. You just had a 40 point season, what are your individual goals for next season? I really want to crack that 50 point barrier. 40 points taunted me in S22 as I came short in the final game to give me a total of 39. Making an all-star team is also a big goal I have, and I think I have a shot for S23. S24 will be a huge season for me and I can't wait to see what it will bring. 3. You’re the only one in S21 draft to have a Challenge Cup, do you have talks with your former draftees about how you have it all right now? I think Winchester was part of the S21 class, but I don't think he is active, so I still consider myself the only S21 with a cup. I was really rooting for The Blizzard so Kane could get a cup under his belt as well. It's not really my style to go bragging about things and because I know they can easily come back and bite me. It's awesome to have a cup, and I really hope I can win another next season, but there are a lot of deserving S21 draftees that I know are hungry for a cup as well, and it would be great to see them hoist it. 4. If you could team up with one person in that draft list who would it be? And why? That is a tough call, but I would have to go with Theo Kane. I've been rolling as a center for most of my SHL career and have developed into a powerful playmaker that is not only offensive, but defensive as well. Putting my skills with Kane's would make for one deadly duo on ice, and I would be right in there stopping people from messing up his pretty face. I just have a feeling that we would mess together really well and maybe at some point we will get the chance to come together and show what we can do. Name: Alonzo Garbanzo Height: 6’1 Weight: 185 LBS Position: Defense TPE: 1091 Accomplishments: Named Captain for the Chiefs in S22 Stats: S21: 52 GP, 3 G, 25 A, 28 P S22: 52 GP, 4 G, 21 A, 25 P S23: 52 GP, 8 G, 19 A, 27 P S24: 21 GP, 0 G, 21 A, 21 P Alonzo Garbanzo was selected 2nd overall by the Minnesota Chiefs and since he got drafted he has been the most hardworking player in the draft having around 1091 training hours to be this young and have that many hours is really special to see and what he can be able to do in the future for any team. The only accomplishment Garbanzo has achieved is being named captain for the Chiefs in S22 in his 2nd year in the league. He has put up pretty good numbers for a defenseman who has been playing a lot of minutes, but this season he has been putting up something special he has 21 points in 21 games that’s a point per game he is on pace for 52 points if he is able to keep on doing what he does. There is no doubt that Alonzo also has played with great teammates such as Mr. Feeny, Logan Valentine who have helped him in his growth in the league. Chiefs had a good start to the season since many has put them winning the challenge cup this season having many stars on their team and if they are going to live up to what the fans want and they want Garbanzo has to be take this team and be the leader he has become. Garbanzo in our eyes is a safe pick as #2 again if we were to re-do the draft. We sat down with Alonzo for a few questions. 1. Looking back at the draft you were drafted #2 overall, would you say you deserve that or do you think you should have been #1? I think that was a pretty fair place for me to get selected. You had Tommy Creller go #1 overall, and with his recent resume there really isn't any arguing that pick. Then you have me, Wong, and Lunaro right after, and I think we all pretty much landed in the right spot for our respective players. I don't think there are many times where you really see that happen, so it was great that we all go to be in a place we would be really happy playing at. All in all, I am completely happy with my #2 selection, and don't really care that I wasn't the #1 guy. 2. You were named alternative captain in S21 when you were drafted but now in S23 you were named captain, how much trust does the organization have in you? A lot. I am an active guy in the locker room, I participate whenever I can with things that are going on, and I am getting better and better every game. I also think that with my most recent pitfalls in cracking the top pairing due to my play on the ice, they are really trying to get me going and get the confidence to do it. As a defensive defenseman, it can be hard to be confident in those more offensive situation. 3. You had a 28 point season in your rookie year and now you went backwards going from 28 to 25 to 27 in three seasons, would you say you have improved your game? Absolutely. This upcoming season should be a real breakout year for me, because in three years I have not been able to crack the 30 point plateau that has plagued me since I was drafted. I think with what I have been working on over the offseason, this will be the year I do it, and I may even be able to crack 40 if I play my cards right. 4. Looking back at the draft who do you think has not lived up to the hype they had and why? Of the top guys, I can't think of really anyone who hasn't played up to par. The one guy I can think of is maybe Tomas Pylon (Martinek)? He hasn't been as active as I think Los Angeles was expecting, so him being picked 6th overall may be a bit of a let-down. I still think he is a fantastic player, so it isn't a huge bust. Though did he have all that much hype then? Another guy may be Edge OchoCinco. I haven't heard much from him after the draft, which is weird because I could not stop seeing the guy being talked about in the draft. He was going to be a lights out kind of guy and I played as hard as I could in order to be better than him. Now he just isn't really there right now. Other than that the first round has some real fantastic players. Name: Hunter Wong Height: 6’3 Weight: 202 LBS Position: Goalie TPE: 774 Accomplishments: None. Stats: S22: 30 GP, 14 W, 13 L, 3 OTL, .898 PCT, 2.88 GAA S23: 43 GP, 15 W, 22 L, 6 OTL, .900 PCT, 2.84 GAA S24: 21 GP, 10 W, 9 L, 2 OTL, .913 PCT, 2.62 GAA Calgary needed a goalie in this draft and they picked Hunter Wong whom we can say hasn’t lived up to being the 3rd overall pick. I would agree with this because they had players like Theo Kane, Sean Leonidas who they missed out on and are quality players who are franchise players but Wong isn’t. He has 774 training hours compared to the others this is nothing and will put him back if he did a re-do on the draft. Once he is able to carry Calgary on their back we can say he has done a great job but right now we can’t say that and when I mean carry them it doesn’t mean they have to win a cup but on a consistent basis they need to have a winning record and be able to make some noise. This is why we don’t have him being 3rd overall if the draft happened again. Name: Theo Kane Height: 5’11 Weight: 190 LBS Position: LW/RW TPE: 1065 Accomplishments: Named Alternative Captain for Edmonton in S23 Stats: S21: 52 GP, 13 G, 10 A, 23 P S22: 48 GP, 14 G, 10 A, 24 P S23: 52 GP, 19 G, 21 A, 40 P S24: 21 GP, 10 G, 6 A, 16 P Theo Kane has improved every season since he got drafted going from 23 points to 24 points to 40 points is an improvement already and his hard work putting up 1065 training hours is finally coming along. Since S22 Theo Kane has emerged himself as a quality player making him play more minutes and having that trust with the organization. He has also played along many great talented players in Yousuf, Kyle Keenan and Miles Berger whom pretty good players are making him better each year. Theo Kane is having pretty good season this year individually but as a team they have struggled this season if he wants to be known as star player in this league he has to take his team far into the playoffs when they seasons like this. Kane was going to be the 2nd player in this draft class to have won a challenge cup but that was destroyed making him 0-1 in the finals. Either way Theo Kane is a stud and if they were was re-do in the draft he would be 3rd overall pick in our eyes. 1. Many expected you to be #1 overall in that S21 draft, do you still up to this day think you should have went #1 or have you just left that alone? I was talking with Creller up till the draft and we both knew pretty much where we were going. Manhattan's GM's seemed to really like him and didn't really reach out to me so I knew I wasn't going first. I think I could have fit in there in Manhattan quite well but Creller's a great player as well so I can't really argue that. The other 2 teams that passed on me before Edmonton will probably regret it. 2. You had a huge improvement in your game this season going from 24 and 25 point season to 40, will you be able to hit 50-60 point seasons or are you going to be stable at the 40 spot? I'm going for them records baby. First things first, my goal is to get this team a cup. I think we can do it but our window is probably closing with our older stars regressing but with our younger guys like JRT, Berger, Ratzon and I stepping up we still can contend. Creller's got that cup before me so I need to at least stay with him in points 3. How disappointing was this finals for you? You were going to become the 2nd player in this draft list to have a challenge up the first being Tommy Creller. It was tough to lose like that but we've been improving every season since I've joined the team. We got knocked out in the first round in S21, Conference Finals in S22, Cup Finals S23, so we're on track to take it all next year. Creller managed to step up for his team last year in the Finals and take home the Finals MVP and I wasn't able to do that this year so it's upsetting for sure but I'll be back with a vengeance next season. 4. If you could team up with one person in that draft list who would it be? And why? There's a ton of good guys there with Creller and Leonidas being my main rivals in juniors. Garbanzo, Nikitin and Martinek or whatever his new name are pretty decent d-men as well. Clitsome and Wastlund have turned out as good or better as they were hyped up to be and are cornerstones of their franchises already. It'd be fun with play with any of those guys. Name: Rider Clitsome Height: 5’9 Weight: 170 LBS Position: LW/RW TPE: 879 Accomplishments: Damian Littleton Trophy for Dedication Stats: S21: 52 GP, 9 G, 12 A, 21 P S22: 48 GP, 19 G, 17 A, 36 P S23: 52 GP, 20 G, 19 A, 39 P S24: 21 GP, 8 G, 4 A, 12 P Rider Clitsome is about to hit the 900 training hour stage but that hasn’t stopped him putting up great numbers in the league since he got drafted. Yes he is below many others in the training hour stage but he is able to live up to it by his points. He has improved every season since he got drafted having gone through 21 points to 36 points then onto 39 points last season. In his career he has gone through 1 or 2 final appearances but hasn’t won any which is a disappointed. Clitsome has also won Damian Littleton Trophy for Dedication which is great to see and also we believe that he once said he could beat the record for most goals in a season we are waiting for that to happen Rider. Clitsome has been a good pick for the Steelhawks. Name: Marek Martinek Couldn’t find anything about him, tried searching him. Name: Sean Leonidas Height: 6’2 Weight: 200 LBS Position: C/RW TPE: 1034 Accomplishments: None. Stats: S22: 52 GP, 9 G, 12 A, 21 P S23: 52 GP, 10 G, 10 A, 20 P S24: 22 GP, 4 G, 3 A, 7 P Seattle Riot thought when Leonidas got drafted that he needed more time and sent him back to the SMJHL where he had an outstanding season and he won the 4 Star Cup with his Knights he was the main reason for the success but it is sad to see now that a player with 1034 training hours he is playing on the 3rd line that is disrespectful in our eyes and we believe he could be doing very well if he was playing even 2nd line. Players in the league with that many training hours are first liners but Leonidas is put into the situation where he is getting fewer minutes. We can’t judge Leonidas career of this situation thus making this hard on us but he signed a long term deal with Seattle last season and we hope to see Leonidas play some quality minutes he really deserves it. Name: Vsevolod Nikitin Height: 6’5 Weight: 240 LBS Position: D TPE: 992 Accomplishments: None. Stats: S22: 52 GP, 2 G, 19 A, 21 P S23: 52 GP, 4 G, 24 A, 28 P S24: 22 GP, 4 G, 11 A, 15 P Nikitin is a player who was drafted with Leonidas to Seattle Riot but for him he has played the minutes he deserved and has had outstanding individual career thus far. I believe he was a sent down in S21 when he got drafted if I’m not mistaken but since S22 he has played great for a defenseman having to put up 21 points in his rookie year then off to 28 points last season. This season he is on pace to have a career best in terms of points but it hasn’t shown up as a team where the Riot are dead last in their conference. With a team like this and having two quality drafted players in S21 this is a disappointed in our eyes and Nikitin needs to be the center stage of their leadership but that doesn’t stop us for him being a bust of a player or anything he is a quality player who will be doing great things for himself and his team in the near future. 1. You were drafted with Sean Leonidas in the S21 draft, you guys are amazing young players that will shine in the future do you think both of you will win a challenge cup together? Leonidas is a dominant center, a potential Hall of Fame player and a dear friend. I think we will both go far, and are both in Seattle for the next 5 years if I remember correctly. He's a great asset and is next in line to ascend to 1st line center status, which is really a testament to how well Seattle's recruited and drafted recently. We've got this. There should be no reason we don't have multiple cups by the time we retire. 2. Looking back at the draft do you think you deserved to be #8 overall or do you think you should have went higher than it was? I was told I'd be taken earlier, actually. There were plans to draft me at #5 with West Kendall, but that got scrapped as they went for a more established member in Brandon Cant and traded the pick. I was also told that I would be picked at #6 by Los Angeles but that was scrapped as well as Marek Martinek was chosen instead. Honestly, no one in Seattle expected both of us to be there at 7 and 8. I remember walking into the locker room and the place was on fire with comments about how we had the best draft and only had 2 picks and so on. It was magical. So yeah, I think I deserved to be picked a bit higher, but am glad I wasn't. 3. You signed a new contract with Seattle Riot, why was this? What if things don’t work out the way you want them too? I have no doubts about Seattle. I plan on being the face of the franchise, no matter what. I have always loved the town, I love the team, and I love our reputation and class. It's an organization for life and I like that. Plus, there are members in the league I do not wish to ever have the misfortune of being on the same team with and my contract makes that a happy reality. 4. Looking back at the draft who do you think has not lived up to the hype they had and why? Hunter Wong was supposed to be the next great thing and hasn't exactly been electric. Same thing happened with Toronto's Edge Ochocinco. Most of that top 12 was astonishing. Our draft was really top-heavy, and most of the guys there at the top were worth the price, though now that I look back, LA would have been happier long-term with me than Martinek in my opinion. All in all, a solid draft from start to finish. Guys like Šatan, Urbowicz, and Knight ended up being steals later on. There's no wrong if I recall the draft order correctly. Name: Edge Ochocinco Height: 6’4 Weight: 235 LBS Position: LW/RW TPE: 682 Accomplishments: None. Signed to Rage. Stats: S22: 52 GP, 6 G, 8 A, 14 P S23: 52 GP, 5 G, 10 A, 15 P S24: 20 GP, 4 G, 3 A, 7 P He left Toronto and now they are doing great. Name: Patrik Satan Height: 6’2 Weight: 204 LBS Position: C/LW TPE: 819 Accomplishments: S22 Rookie of the Season Stats: S22: 52 GP, 11 G, 26 A, 37 P S23: 52 GP, 13 G, 21 A, 34 P S24: 21 GP, 5 G, 13 A, 18 P Patrik Satan is like Rider Clitsome he doesn’t have training hours to be a quality player but with his 819 training hours he has put himself into the position to be a very key player for the Jets regular season success since he got drafted. Satan won the rookie of the season award back in S22 had an outstanding season with 37 points in 52 games. He had downgraded season after that with 34 points but is very good either way but now he is on pace to have a 40+ season which is great to see. If Patrik keeps on working I believe he will be one of those late picks in the first round that came as a steal. Name: Etienne Modano Height: 5’7 Weight: 160 LBS Position: RW/C TPE: 618 Hasn’t updated for a while I consider him a bust of a player. Name: Sterling Knight Height: 6’0 Weight: 195 LBS Position: LW/RW TPE: 729 Accomplishments: None. Stats: S23: 52 GP, 7 G, 7 A, 14 P S24: 22 GP, 5 G, 5 A, 10 P Sterling Knight was one player I believe that wanted to play for Texas Renegades on draft night and he was pretty relieved they selected him. His 729 training hours aren’t good but it is believed that during his S21 and S22 he wasn’t interested in playing in the SHL thus making him not do training every week which really set him off by a lot in the draft class but either way in S23 he has picked it up when it comes to Training weekly and has had a good comeback. If he keeps on doing training and other things he will set off to have 1,100+ TPE when his contract ends in 3 seasons including this. Knight has been put into a position this year to play quality minutes and has put up 10 points in 22 games played if he keeps on improving there is no doubt he can be 30+ point player. S21 RE-DRAFT OF FIRST ROUND: 1. Manhattan Rage - Tommy Creller 2. Minnesota Chiefs - Alonzo Garbanzo 3. Calgary Dragons - Theo Kane 4. Edmonton Blizzard - Sean Leonidas 5. Hamilton Steelhawks (via West Kendall Platoon) - Rider Clitsome 6. Los Angeles Panthers (via Toronto North Stars) - Vsevolod Nikitin 7. Being a GM sucks sometimes, your player is never included in your draft class cause you weren't even drafted.
Also while Modano has gone inactive I wouldn't say he's a bust as he was/is a integral part of our team in S22, and still plays a big spot. He did go inactive but before he made a useful player. Great job though! Good draft class for sure. |
