Falcon rookie review
#1

As the Falcons roll going into the last season as the best team in the smjhl we will take a look at the rookies and how they have contributed to the continued success of this franchise. Coming out of the draft it seemed like the goal of the falcons was to improve on defense with 3 of the first 4 rounds consisting of players in a defensive position. This looks to have been a great way to draft with Detroit being only one of two teams with a positive goal differential and in first in that category by a landslide. Lets take a look at they have contributed.

1st round 5th overall BASTIEN SALABANZI 222 TPE
He is a huge reason why our defense has been so good this season. He has a very impressive 7 goals and 15 assites for 22 points. More impressively he is a +15. He has been tasked with playing against each teams top lines and continue to shut them down. He is averaging over 22 minutes a game in all situations. He has contributed 10 points on the power play. Overall this was a great pick.

2nd round 8th overall JASPER CLAYTON – D 248 TPE
The second defenseman taken in what was an successful attempt to improve the teams defense. He is currently 2nd in rookie scoring on the falcons and used in all offensive situations for the team. He has 12 power play points and 28 points total. He doesn’t make very many stupid mistakes defensively and has only 6 PIM showing great discipline which is rear for rookies. Along with all this he is a constant prescence in the dressing room and tries to help out wear possible. Showing great potential to be put in a leadership position on the team for future.

3rd round 17th overall MICHAEL BURCH – RW 252 TPE
I would look at him as a steal at 17 He is the leading scorer among rookie scorers on the falcons with 32 points. He has 10 goals and 22 helpers mking things easy out there for his line mates. He has been used in all offensive situations and has 9 power play points to show for it. HE currently sits at a plus 9 with very few penalty minutes showing some of that great discipline. Hes playing about 15 minutes a night with the second line and continues to put up great performances. Hes also been quite active in the dressing room along with Jasper and could see him being in a leadership role in the future as well

4th round 20th overall AUSTIN LEMIEUX – G 236 TPE
Has been a great goalie for Detroit. Part of the best goalie tandem in the league by a landslide and the biggest reason we have been so successful defensively. First of he doesn’t take shit hes a goon as you notice from the post in his signature. You wouldn’t know this from his 4 pim but he doesn’t get caught being gooney very often. Well Bowden has better numbers then Lemieux in the same amount of games Lemieux he shined when he had his chance. He is also a great setup man with his one assist. Once Bowden goes pro if Lemieux is forced to stay down next yr look for him to help Detroit stay at the top again.

5th round 28th overall CLIVE STONEHANDS – RW 210 tpe
Started off strong but seems to have disappeared of late. Still posting a respectable 13 points he was recently demoted to the 4th line and has been apparently mailing it in at practice and partying to much at nights. Has the fame got to him hopefully he snaps out of it going into playoffs. Along with his points he has 29 pim while playing a physical game not to bad considering his style of play but a little more discipline would be great. He doesn’t get used in any other situation besides 5 on 5 so he really needs to snap out of his funk to have a good shot at getting drafted.
6th round 32ed overall JYRI JOLO – D- 165 TPE
Looking at stats I believe he has been cut. He looked to be a good draft pick late with some potential but the puck bunnies and parties seem to have derailed this once promising career.

7th round 41st overall MAC HOOPER – RW 165
Unfortunently another career the seems to be derailing in front of our eyes. He has 1 point this season and is playing 4th line minutes. He has been missing practices and sleeping in meetings.

8th round 44th overall Ross Burke 207 TPE
The self pro claimed steal of the draft. After a slow start and playing 4th line minutes Burke started to buckle down and has been seen participating much more in the dressing room and working harder. I was recently moved up to the 3rd line and with my poor scouting report I have been pissed off and motivated to prove all the doubters wrong. Well still struggling to find my way on the ice I continue to work to develop and constantly asking questions. Look for me to contribute greatly in the playoffs.

9th round 53rd overall BALROG FUERTO – C 165 tpe
Great name and that’s all that can be said about this guy. Hasn’t even shown up to the dressing room in a long time just shows up to games and even then he just goes through the motions.

This was the draft class of the falcons and well not everyone can be a hit the scouting department did a great job of evaluating talent which has lead to the very competitive team this yr. Don’t be surprised when several of these guys get taken in the first few rounds of the shl draft. Going into the playoffs we look to continue rolling. Good luck all except the Whalers fuck you.
I also apologize if draft spots and tpe are listed incorrectly I may have mathed wrong
