One of the ideas is that for a developmental league that having to sit out the playoffs could potentially murder activity/interest in the league. Plus having more games in the playoffs for the SMJHL is a generally good idea.

The team that wins the conference still plays the worst in the conference which should infer an edge.

Very happy that was changed. Every team in the SMJHL should get a chance in the playoffs, and I think it makes better hockey this way. Four separate matchups in the first round? Yes please.
