Game 27
Scarecrows VERSUS Whalers

1st Period

Code:
1. Vancouver Whalers , Rick James 3 (Patrick McEichel, Montel Vontavious Porter) at 2:40

Penalties :
Strawberry Blake (VAN) for Elbowing (Minor) at 3:52
Yakov Pinehero (STL) for Boarding (Minor) at 12:09
Brian Wade (VAN) for Hooking (Minor) at 12:45
Not much in this period, but early on Vancouver grabs a goal from Rick James. Curtis Crawford was hit by Ben Troy and lost the puck, which led to two shots from James, who had his first deflected, missing the net, but cashed in on his second opportunity.

We saw two power plays for the Scarecrows and one for the Whalers after the first goal, but neither team scored after James's goal.

2nd Period

Code:
2. St. Louis Scarecrows , Michael Ferkland 1 (Alfred Holiday, Steve French) at 5:50
3. Vancouver Whalers , Bernie Sanders 2 (Rostislav Pirozhkov) at 16:12

Penalties :
Rick James (VAN) for High sticking (Minor) at 3:42
Rostislav Pirozhkov (VAN) for Holding (Minor) at 9:51
Yakov Pinehero (STL) for Holding (Minor) at 12:18
Cody Black (VAN) for Charging (Minor) at 15:42
Steve French (STL) for Holding (Minor) at 15:42

Discipline seemed to fall off a little, and we saw two goals, one from each team. The Scarecrows bombarded Lukas Berger with shots until Michael Ferkland picked a puck up after a miss and beat the goaltender to tie the game at one.

The game would be a stalemate for a little more than ten minutes, though. Brian Wade won a faceoff and got the puck to Rostislav Pirozhkov, who dished it over to Bernie Sanders. Sanders made no mistake and blasted a wrister past Lee Bowden to reclaim the lead.

3rd Period

Code:
4. Vancouver Whalers , Patrick McEichel 6 (Zach Zyvleski, Cody Black) at 1:09

Penalties :
Bernie Sanders (VAN) for Tripping (Minor) at 12:43

The Whalers didn't want a one-goal lead. Well, maybe they did, but you know what's better than a one-goal lead? A two-goal lead! Patrick McEichel put home a third-chance opportunity that materialized off a faceoff win and a few rebounds. We would see teams trying to score later on, but shots missed more often than they hit, and we saw only seven shots on net for the Whalers and five for St. Louis.

The period was very disciplined as both teams were attempting to get goals. The Whalers pressed more at the end than the Scarecrows did, but the score would stay 3-1.

Shots were fairly low. We saw 21 for the Whalers and 19 for the Scarecrows. Berger and Bowden both played well, but the Whalers offence was able to beat Bowden.

Code:
Lee Bowden (STL), 18 saves from 21 shots - (0.857), L, 2-5-0, 60:00 minutes
Lukas Berger (VAN), 18 saves from 19 shots - (0.947), W, 4-3-0, 60:00 minutes
