This is heartbreaking to write. I really did love this place and it brought me so many new friends over the years.

I made 4 players. Two of them over 1000 TPE. I've had the pleasure of holding multiple jobs here including SHL GM in Hamilton and SHL Co-Commissioner. I spent countless hours trying to make the league a better place. Trying to help people have fun and trying to maintain fairness.

I remember my run ins with Tez,Spangs and Wadey over the years. I remember Wadey telling me "it doesn't matter what the rulebook says. I am the rulebook." and while I may never have been the most popular member on the site, I was never suspended either...which is surprising given my longevity. Congratulations to Maxy on the record I didn't even know you held.

But here we are today. With the same group of fuck you members doing the same fuck you things and daring the league to stop them. So I shrugged it off. No I really did. But then I saw the rulebook. I saw the conflict and the advantage it posed. I saw the shallow draft and spoke to other teams about the issue. I sent PMs and quietly posted in the HO about my views on the subject. I tried to let the system work instead of blowing up the Thunderdome as so many had.

Then I was told that 6 veteran members who knew better, conspired and plotted to circumvent the draft, and then violate the rulebook by claiming TPE they weren't eligible for-wasn't that big of a deal and that "while wrong, we'll let it slide this time". I couldn't. I couldn't just turn a blind eye to blatant cheating like that. Just because so many others have abandoned their integrity doesn't mean I have to forsake my own.

Why should I work to earn my TPE when others just steal it? Why should I enter the draft when others just skip it? Why should I play by the rules when others don't? Why should the same repeat problems get yet another free pass? Why shouldn't we enforce the rules already on the books? Why should one team get 6 FREE FIRST ROUND PICKS in one of the weakest drafts in history? Why should I care when others don't? Why should I put in the work when the game is rigged?

And so I left. I moved that thread yes. It was wrong but not against the rulebook, right? Doesn't matter that I got fired for it. I understand. I'm ok with that. And I never asked for any discipline for Detroit or any of their players. Only that they be held to the same standard everyone else is.

We have always blocked draft circumvention. We have always removed ineligible TPE. Just because I'm the only person here who can read a subparagraph doesn't make me the crazy one. But in the end there's no point. Some will always be protected here. And tomorrow the SHL will become even more corrupt than it was yesterday.

But ask yourself: "If those players had been unknowns would they have been allowed to do that?" "If that was the SHL Draft not the SMJHL would we allow that?" No. And that's the problem. There's rules for some and there's hey look those assholes are doing their same old shit again.

I put too much time and energy into this league to not take a stand when it's jeopardized. And nothing risks a league like players feeling that it's rigged against them.

The league has always had this problem. This some people are above the law issue. And while it's gotten better it's still never been eradicated. I understand people will always push the limits. I never wanted these players or team punished. Only the league to step in and block it as they have several times before. Instead it was condoned despite everyone knowing it was just plain wrong. We know that. You know that. Detroit knows that. Wrong is wrong. Unfair is unfair.

But now everyone knows that the rules, honesty and fairness don't matter, only your friends do. The league is rigged against honest players when cheaters are allowed to prosper. I wish this place has a bit more courage to demand an honest and fair League. The SHL will always have that potential. But it won't reach that potential until all players, even your friends, are treated equally.

Now is the perfect time for the big boys and girls who run the league to step up and show what happens when you try to go around the rules. The season has not started yet, punish the players and punish the GM´s of Detroit for doing something like this.

I´m more than happy to wait extra week for the season to start if they clean this mess up.

To be totally honest, I would be happy to wait 2 weeks to see what happens when league does something to this situation.

Yup. HO said there were no rules against it even though the SMJHL rulebook has a big ol disclaimer that states the commissioners have the final word and the rulebook isn't final.

Regardless of what transpired, the commissioner always has the authority to veto any contract that would provide an unfair and inappropriate advantage to one team. The commissioner has the ability to interpret the rules. In this case the commissioners chose to recognize the incident but not correct it and yet somehow want to prevent it from happening in the future which means it is inappropriate and shouldn't be tolerated.

So the official decision seems to be "we will let this slide but stop it from happening next time" instead of doing something to provide fairness for the other 7 teams in the SMJHL this time around.

A lot of us new players are seeing this as complete horseshit. Something needs to be done to prevent this from happening again in the future. They may not have technically broken any rules. To a lot of the newer people here this just looks like you refusing to take action because these people are seasoned members of the site.

This is obviously giving an unfair advantage to one team. And while the evidence may not be overwhelming, it's still at least substantial enough to initiate proceedings to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.

I'm sure there are countless members that will back me up when I say that there needs to be something put in place to fix this from happening again. While not illegal per se, it's sleazy as fuck and requires some action.

So this falls to you, Kez. Do you want to take a stand for what is right? Or do you want to continue this old boys club?

If you think the SMJHL doesn't matter. Than you should take a larger look. We're a developmental league for newer players BUT we are also a league made for integrating newer members along with more seasoned members. We're a league that's purpose is to give newer players a leg up and unite them with people who can do that. Not only that but we are a buffer for a lot of older members that prevent them from getting overwhelming numbers of inactives in the SHL. We weed out the inactives better than any other means. So maybe instead of bitching and whining that the SMJHL doesn't matter and that it's just a terrible league that has no reason for veterans, maybe you should take some action to make the league a better place for newer players so more people want to stick out the long haul and be major members of the society. And a big part of that is being PART OF THE LEAGUE and not disrespecting the system. Who cares if you're on your 4th player? You're just another person on this site. You might have been here longer, your name might be a slightly different color or you might have history with other members. But this certainly doesn't mean you're immune from the same process the rest of the league follows.

I am disgusted by a blatant disregard for the SMJHL. The members involved in this brigading of a team obviously premeditated the occurance. There is no way that you'd all create minutes after each other and than sign shortly after the deadline within 12 hours of creation. This is simply hilarious to assume. You are the same members that are commonly talking about the "SAWFTPACK" brigading and palling around on the same teams. What are you doing that is any different? I wonder if you'll do the same thing for the SHL draft in another few months? Are you going to force the league to let you go to a single team? Will you refuse to sign as a group and flood a single SHL team? Just fucking disgusting.

So what's going to happen? Are we just going to bow down to these guys and let them do whatever they want and set a negative precedence for the site? Or are we going to do what is right? It's up to the community.

Make your decision.

My anus is prepared for the drama but I hope any member that responds to this can be mature.

SMJHL > SHL

It's pretty obvious that people care more about the SMJHL when looking at things such as media and pbp turn-outs. So the SMJHL doesn't matter argument is complete ignorance. Irrelevant but true.
