Durden Recap
#1

It’s that time again. Nope, not time to start an exciting season, but time to write another boring article that no one will read because no one cares. Yippee!

This season wasn’t the best for Jack Durden, but it wasn’t his worst either.

Last season, Jack Durden went 10-28-38 and was a +16 on the ice. Durden was mostly on the second line, but did share first line minutes. His defensive play showed up on the stat sheet, as his +16 was pretty decent in the league. Durden ended up being ranked as the 62nd top player in the SHL. Durden was doing well where he was, but again, Texas struggled when it came to the playoffs and list in 6 games. During those 6 games, Durden went 3-5-8 which was great, but was a -4 on the ice. Despite putting up 8 points of his own, Durden for some reason fell off defensively and couldn’t help his team win enough games.

This season, Durden achieved the same point total, going 19-19-38, and had a +10 rating. Durden had been working on his scoring touch, but it’s very surprising that while his scoring increased, everything else decreased. Durden wasn’t able to feed the puck to his teammates as well as before, and his defensive play suffered. Was it a mix of being on line one and two? Or was it bad chemistry with his line mates?
While Durden’s line was one of the hottest in the league, that didn’t translate to him being a big point producer. Durden helped out in some ways, but couldn’t find his own, true scoring or passing touch. Despite a lot of growth, Durden’s training didn’t show up on the scoresheet.

On top of that, the Renegades again found them in a lower seed in the playoffs and once again struggled. In another 6 game series, only went 2-3-5, and was a +1. While Durden’s defensive game obviously got better, he wasn’t helping out his team like he used to.

This was a sad thing, and it resulted in Durden being moved down 13 spots in the SHL top 100 rankings to number 75. This honestly pisses Durden off as he knows he’s a much better player, but will need to showcase his skills on the ice for people to take notice.

Some good has come from this year however, as the Renegades made a huge move to bring in center Evandrus Jesster, a fellow draftee from Durden’s draft class. This could be great for the winger Durden, as he’s a playmaker and Jesster is known for his sniping skills. We could see something amazing happen between the two for the upcoming future. The other option is to get back on a line with Boyka, who Durden has had great chemistry with before.
We could see the Buffalo line become dangerous in Jesster-Allen-Durden, or we could even see the BAD line part two come to life again with Boyka-Allen-Durden. Either way, we’re in for some excitement from the top two lines in Texas.

On another somewhat good news note, Jack Durden became a silver medalist in this seasons’ IIHF. As we all know, Durden wanted out of team UK, but no one in the federation would make this happen, which left Durden stuck in a bad situation. Not being the type to simply sit out or quit, Durden laced them up and continued to skate for a team and country he didn’t care for. Finding no solace in the situation, Durden kept pushing along on the team, and eventually got to the goal medal game. Despite scoring a goal in the game, team UK could not win, and fell to a silver medal, Durden’s first ever IIHF medal.

The future could be bright for Durden, but I truly think it hinges on chemistry on the lines. If Durden can’t find a line that works, his future looks bleak. However, Durden is giving management a chance to find a line that works, and find that team chemistry so that Durden and the team can do well, and better than the last two seasons. Durden has developed well, but needs an extra push to get over the 40 point barrier.

I may be 0-12 in the SHL playoffs but a few first round wins aren't much better Tongue

See, now that I agree with.

Who was awesome and highly touted in his early career, but was never able to win a single playoff game?

LPF. :(
