The next award to be presented is the Brandon Holmes Trophy, our annual award given to the Top Defensive Forward as voted by the General Managers. This award is given to the forward who displays excellence on both ends of the ice, combining a high points total with high defensive performances throughout the season. Our nominees are:

Alex Light Knights
Light put up an amazing sophomore season where he amassed 26 goals and 28 assists for 54 points, all destroying his rookie season totals by a wide margin. His +17 differential combined to his 53 hits and 17 shots blocked (2nd highest by a forward) make this sniper a well-rounded player at both ends of the ice.

Eduard Selich Firebirds
Selich demonstrated excellence on both ends of the ice. On top of posting solid numbers for his team, as evidenced by his 21 goals, and 20 assists this season, he led the Firebirds as their team captain. His -6 was near the best on a Firebirds team that struggled in its’ own end. He had 42 hits and 20 shots blocked (the most by a forward) this season to complete a very strong regular season for himself.

Reed Laing raiders
Laing stood out from a large pack of players and led the Raiders with 23 Goals and 21 Assists for 44 Points. On top of his offensive prowess, the Raiders Power-Forward finished the Regular Season with a +15 differential, a 2nd best in the league 142 hits, and 9 shots blocked put him in contention for this award.

With the Top Defenseman & Top Defensive Forward Awards already given out, it is only fitting that our next Award goes to the men and women at the very back. Our next award is the Tom Corcoran Trophy, given out to the Top Goalie as voted by the General Managers. Some goaltenders give everything they have on the ice night in and out and their performances are a great reason as to why their team is successful or not. Your nominees this year are:

Ekaterina Rudnikova Mammoths
On a team that had more difficulty scoring than the very top teams in the League, the Mammoths turned their defensive game up a notch and finished the season with the fewest amount of goals conceded in the League. A great part of this can be attributed to Rudnikova who finished the season with a 22-18-3 record. It was however her save percentage of 0.911 and her Goals Against Average of 2.25 that stood out, while facing the 2nd highest amount of shots in the league (1077).

Jason Aittokallio Knights
At the dawn of the season expectations were high for Jason Aittokallio, the son of SHL Legend Jakub Aittokallio, and he showed his naysayers why he was every bit as good as his father, if not better, at his age. Aittokallio finished the season posting the best record by a goaltender with 29 wins, 10 losses and 5 overtime losses in 45 games played. His save percentage of 0.903 was 2nd best in the league and his Goals Against Average was the best at 2.12. He was the goaltender that spent the most amount of time on the ice with a massive 2638 minutes played, a testimony to his stamina and endurance.

Maximillian Wehner (renamed Timo Haas) Whalers
Maximilian Wehner, now known as Timo Haas, played an important part in the Whalers successes this season, posting a 27-15-2 record en route to the 2nd best record in the League. He ended the season with the 4th best save percentage (0.896), 3rd best Goals Against Average (2.55), and 2nd highest amount of minutes played at 2613 mins. Interesting fact: He was the most penalized goaltender in the league with 6 penalty minutes!

Our first MVP Award to be presented is the Ideen Fallah Trophy. This award is given annually to the Most Valuable Player as voted by the General Managers of the SMJHL. Without these players, it would be safe to say that their respective teams would not have enjoyed the same amount of success. These players went above and beyond in their pursuit of excellence. Your nominees are:

Alex Light Knights
Light put up an amazing sophomore season where he amassed 26 goals and 28 assists for 54 points, all destroying his rookie season totals by a wide margin. His +17 differential combined to his 53 hits and 17 shots blocked (2nd highest by a forward) make this sniper a well-rounded player at both ends of the ice. Without a strong goalscorer, the fate of the Knights might’ve been very different.

Cara Hohenberg Knights
Hohenberg led the league in Points (61) and Assists (43) to dominate the offensive game and redefine what the term “offensive defenseman” means. Playing often as a 4th forward on the powerplay, a massive 28 points came off the special teams. Not a slouch in her own end either, she showed that she was ready to sacrifice the body when needed as seen by her 41 hits and 68 shots blocked.

Without her between the pipes, it is safe to say that the Mammoths would not have been enjoying this much success this year.
