The New Force on Defense - Roman Augustus

This is my first article for double points.
Hailing from a nontraditional hockey market in Northwest Florida, Roman Augustus has made quite a name for himself before joining the SMJHL. Standing at 6'6 235 lbs and with a high hockey IQ Augustus is a force to be reckoned with on the ice in all facets of the game. Playing as a two way defender Augustus prides himself on his ability to not only shut down the opposing team but put the puck in the net with ease. We recently sat down with Roman Augustus to ask him a few questions now that he is in the SMJHL. What brought you the SMJHL? "Having recently been recruited by such a prestigious league I could not pass up the chance to try and shine on the grandest of stages." What has it been like growing up in a nontraditional hockey market and how does that translate to your abilities on ice? "Growing up in Florida was tough to get noticed. As hot as it is in Florida its very tough for people to take hockey seriously. That being said it has not wavered my training or passion for the game in the slightest bit. My will to win and be the best in the game is unmatched and I will work to achieve my goal no matter where I am." How does it feel to be recruited by the SMJHL? "I am extremely honored to be here today. The SMJHL is a very prestigious and decorated league that any young hockey player would be excited to be included in. I think the SMJHL has found a new player who is very committed to not only growing his own game but the game of hockey as a whole for the entire league." Why did you decide to be a defenseman? " I chose to play defense at a very young age because I wanted to contribute in all facets of the game. I work my hardest to defend against the best the opposing team has and to also get that puck in the net. Hockey is a team sport and I want to contribute to this entire team rather that be on defense or offense and I'm fully committed to helping the team as my first priority."
