Weekend Funtime: Memories

- What's the best draft class this site has seen so far, and why?

Since the time I've been here the S20 Draft class has been the most impressive. I have to think it was one of if not the the deepest class in history, with franchise players like Nicholas Pedersen and Jakob Tanner going all the way in the 4th round. Countless other stars who had long careers came out of that draft as well. There's been some other strong drafts since, like S25, but S20 is tough to beat on depth of talent.

The Riot probably should have taken Kurczewski, or however it's spelt, instead of me back in the S31 draft. I believe he has about 150 more TPE than me. He also seems to have had more sim success.

Let's go back to your SHL draft. In hindsight, do you think you would have/should have been drafted in the position that you were, knowing what you know now? Give yourself a redraft position!
Looking at it now, I more than likely could have been a late first round pick or a early 2nd round pick. I got picked at 24th overall back in season 21 by Minnesota.

I had no previous experience in sim leagues in general, this is and was my first ever player in any sim league and I think that had a effect on my draft position + me being more of a defensive winger and having scoring as weakness more than likely had a effect also.

I cant say for sure how active I was back then, since I cant rememer Tongue but I´d say I did most of the PT´s and posted in the Montreal LR here and there. Not super active, but active still.

But yea, my next player will have a better change to be picked earlier, got more experience on how everything works and I have been through the player process once already, users who recreate are bit safer picks than totally new users, so not mad or anything that I went fairly late, if anything - made my story more interesting Wink

Pretty unknown scrub then and am slightly more known scrub now. Glad I ended up with the Chiefs.
Side note: Its amazing how excited you can get over a sim hockey draft

The best draft class in league history was the season 20 draft class. There's still a number of players who are still playing in the SHL today. The first round featured players that went on to become superstars such as Chuck Goody, Bojo Biscuit, Nathan Russell, and Jed Lloren. What really makes the class stand out though is the drafts depth. Jackson Rogers Tanaka, Kristian Eriksson, and Barney Stinson were selected in the second round, Chester Cunningham, Yuri Boyka, and Griffin Simons in the third, the talent doesn't stop there, Jakob Tanner, Nicholas Pederson, and Elyk were among the players who lasted until the fourth round.

S20.

I guess, after about a year of us playing on the site now, i think its fair to say being drafted 12th is a bit low. Knowing what i know now, you'd assume S31 great Brennan Kennedy and (RIP) Selich would fall out of favor with being inactive. With how TPE was gained, and who's still doing what, i think i could assume i'd be redrafted in the Top 3. I think people would have to decide between Visser, LKS, and myself.

S31 bias just because the rookie discord up until around mid-s31 was really good. Including karaoke, drunk Tomen and other shenanigans. I think it brought a lot of great members to the site, even though some of them went inactive (...) or recreated.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have been drafted as high as I was. People like Kurczewski, Visser, Selich, etc pretty much eclipsed me as far as TPE and site involvement. At the time, the pick made sense, I suppose, in retrospect, maybe not. I'd probably bump myself down to ~7 in a redraft - that's where I originally thought I was going until, like, the week of the draft.

Both with Pejo and Arrivabene, I have been drafted in late second round. I sometimes don't know what the gm's are thinking since im a bloody fucking furniture in this site, I have never left and probably never will. In Pejo's draft I should have been a mid 1st rounder, Arrivabene early 2nd round at least. Gdi people

Shush, Pris. When you recreate I’m drafting you first overall again because it’s the safest pick

- All 14 teams in the SHL have cycled through GMs in their past. Out of all of the SHL's former GMs, whom would you have wanted to play for the most? In your opinion, what made them a good GM?

I think it would be JumpierPegasus. jp a real gud guy. real smart too. I really wanted him to draft me when he was the gm in portland. But he's such a shit gm tho and passed on me. what a clown eh. If not jp it would prob be walrus. he was a real gud gm.

S34 Had a number of impact players taken throughout the first and second rounds. People that look be around here year after year driving their teams forward.

Uhh Jp and Cuffy woulda been good, but I want the real fuckin deal experience with Wally as my Gm, paying me by cutting the rest of our guy's salaries and trading off assets left and right to bring his vision to life.

It's just me that knows? Damn dude I couldn't convice anyone of shit besides the Jets last year so telling teams id have some TPE wouldn't mean much. Everyone was whoring themselves before the draft real hard, who the fuck would believe me?

- Think back to one draft pick that you regret letting slip through your fingers. Who was it, and what do you think they would have added to your team?
Jimmy Wagner shoulda been taken by the Jets in S34, instead of the two STL prospects that died on us immediately. Fuckin Crows seemed to have sucha good survival rate we just went for what feels like the only Scarecrows to fuck right off after an SHL draft.

Best draft class is S20. Multiple HO members and GMs, and the influx of members both created the template for the Reddit recruitment drives and the numbers needed to add 4 new teams across the two leagues.
