Why do I get paid more to pick 7 players in fantasy than I do for 10's of hours of work I put into the Montreal team every season.
Once again, I'd like to point out how I'm not opposed to GM pay and I'm nearly trying to help in pointing out a possible problem that could arise, however minimal.

If everyone could stop being so hostile to discussion, I'd truly appreciate it and the league could benefit as whole.

As I've already said, the risk of the given scenarios are likely minimal so we don't need to actually discuss a compromise if the general atmosphere is that they are negligible. In previous threads the atmosphere was that such a risk could be avoided and this was one of the given solutions of which was generally accepted.

Obviously, times have changed though or more users are involved in this discussion than the last one, as most of you seem entirely opposed to the given compromise and that's completely fine. Good for you guys broadening the discussion.

From S30 to S34 the SMJHL encountered what I believe to be an example of the league's atmosphere deteriorating due to certain users in administrative positions.

Granted, this was not (for the most part) the fault of GM's. As stated above, I'm just adding to the conversation by speculating worst-case scenarios.

Also, like I said above, the stated scenario of more interest in SMJHL GM jobs is likely minimal if existent whatsoever, but I felt it's real enough to be mentioned.

Just come out and say that you hated the Maxy and Merica regime. Who didn't? Some of the dumbest decisions made in the SMJHL were during that time. But it has nothing to do with paying the GMs.

During that time one of the greatest SMJHL classes ever came into the league (S30). The biggest problem in the SMJHL during that time was slacker GMs. And guess what? You can't really blame them because there was no motivation to keep going if nobody gives two fucks what you do and you get no pay.

ok ok how about this for a compromise:
SMJHL GMs get paid but every season one set of GMs gets voted off the island

I think Arty's point is that SMJHL jobs are better for newer members to begin with, and typically most people probably GM there first before getting an SHL position.

That can't happen if you have veteran members sticking around in both league for the paycheck.

It brings up a lot of potential issues of over time, people losing time/interest in GMing, but keeping the job because they need the paycheck to keep their player going.

Not only does that keep those people in the position, it would stop SMJHL GMs from getting promotions, and thus prevent newer members from getting SMJHL jobs. It could stop up the whole cycle.

There's not really much benefit other than giving established members more money than they already have. By the looks of it, close to half, if not more, of the GMs have plenty of money in the bank right now, over 20 mil, and really paying them doesn't help anyone.

There's a lot of risks mostly with the increased number of people who would want the job, because not only do you get the prestige of being a GM, you also get a sweet paycheck.

If you're putting in more or equal effort to others on the site, you should be paid equally or more than them for it. If you're worried about people sitting in to collect a paycheck, then either create a forced GM turnover system OR add more formal staff positions on SMJHL teams to actually give people more formal experience being a GM so the pathway doesn't get stopped up by people actually enjoying their job and not wanting to leave.

It is literally easier and faster to get 4m by writing media than it is to GM
