I mean, even with regression, and I've mentioned this to ace, at 10% Redding will lose TPE as quick as Hans at 10/15 so the TPE gap remains the same/diminishes a bit. However, I think it is smart for this season too, because the west is genuinely the wild wild west this season, and I could see the playoffs being a wide open affair, and Edmonton, if they can cement their spot, have a good chance of making some noise as the only true strong team is Winnipeg imo

But value for value I like this for Manhattan, due to them bolstering their future nicely and still getting a servicable Hans for the time being to fill in their lineup

Oh no doubt, I think value wise Manhattan wins, but like you said, in a tight West every game matters, if Ace and Karl feel like this was a move that helps cement us as a playoff team that’s good enough reason for me to support it as a player.

I think a lot of value is being put in the S42 first that changed hands, and that’s where a lot of the value going back to Manhattan lays in my opinion. Yeah, the first will hurt a bit.

The S41 2nd is eh, if the season ended today it would be 18th overall? (My math could be off, I’m counting in the two forfeits.) and there was only 29 players in the draft, 5 or 6 creates post draft, I think it’ll be a decent prospect but not a world changer.

The S42 3rd is a negatable piece as well in my opinion, we don’t often see notable third round picks apart from the reddit drafts, we could be wrong though and it swings the scale for sure.

The S43 3rd coming back to us though is what I think tipped the scale for the management team, originally S42 was supposed to be a reddit draft but from what I can tell they’ve changed their mind and it’s going to be S43 instead. There should be a good piece in the S43 draft with that Manhattan pick.

I like the trade as an Edmonton player, but definitely feel there’s potential for those S42 picks to come back and bite us.

Not every team needs 15 prospects in there system. There comes a point if you have enough good young players to pick and choose your spots... you can make an argument that Edmonton is in a position to do this.

Is this their spot though? I know I mentioned the west is wild rn, but Edmonton is fighting for a final spot. Even with better players, a run of 2-3 bad games could ruin any chance, and finishing fourth is no guarantee of playoff success, especially with the possible challenge of playing against Winnipeg in round 1 if they pass Texas which is looking likely

I think this is a fine move for Edmonton all around, but the question becomes how much of an impact does Redding make? He's playing big minutes in Manhattan right now to score at the pace he is, I think we likely see him put up .5-.8 PPG on Edmonton's second line. Is that enough to catapult them towards a cup?

Always nice to have guys in the wings when we live in such a fickle league. Guys retire 7 seasons into their careers at their peaks sometimes, guys go inactive and a player projecting to be 1500 TPE dies off and stays at 850. It's nice to have those backups and the quantity especially with the new 3 lines rules. I know I fucked over Minnesota back in the day by retiring after a 70 point season and they had sold the future for Cups and it took a bit to recover. Always be weary

I see you jinxing us Wink

For what it’s worth, I like this for Manhattan. Ace is a great player, but with the amount of randomness in STHS I sort of feel like incremental upgrades aren’t always worth the price. It’s more about getting rid of weaknesses than maximizing strengths imo. The fact is, at high levels of TPE the primary benefit of raising TPE level is longevity, not performance.

It’ll be interesting to see how this all shakes out. I felt like going in the West was six teams deep. If this ensures EDM gets into the playoffs, it’s anyone’s cup to win.

Accepted. Will address at a later time, but the S42 draft looks like a strong one in early forecasting and we likely won't make playoffs. Every time we make up ground, Minnesota just takes it right back so time to buy in a little further.

An old man's dream ended. A young man's vision of the future opened wide. Young men have visions, old men have dreams. But the place for old men to dream is beside the fire.

my favorite part of Edmonton trading is watching the inevitable shitstorm created by them trying to justify their trades.
