Hello SHL comrades,

'Moving forward' id like to propose that we adapt a league methodology that IIHF positions 'try' and 1st be filled with GMs who do not have a current GM job on the site. The IIHF GM role at its heart is about showcasing yourself for a GM job in the SMJHL and SHL. It seems unfair to offer 1 of those spots to someone already occupying one of those select few roles. (unless nobody wants the position which we have seen in the past)

We only have 34 GM positions on the site and around 250 active members (via the activity checks).. just seems fair to make policy that encourages and seeks out one of those members ready for there chance at managing.

I mean, I agree in premise, but I think you hit the most salient point with "unless nobody wants the position which we have seen in the past."

Unless I'm missing something, the last two federation heads have been people who didn't hold GM spots in the league. The last one I can recall was <a href='index.php?showuser=2397' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-13'>Samee</a> being hired for Czechoslovakia, and literally dankoa wrote "Thank you Samee for stepping up to take this when no one else would, it's a massive help" in hiring him. So this feels like it's coming way out of left field and I'm very confused, but yes, I agree.

I agree with what you're saying because when I started as Fed Head in S19, I feel like it really gave me a chance to show that I'm capable of a role with some importance, and it was my performance as a Fed Head that helped me join the Board of Governers before the start of the S20 season.

Unfortunately, too often, there are teams where no one wants to do it. I was lucky in Sweden that Insayne stepped up, because I was doing it while I was SHL GM simply because no one else did. I don't imagine that's an isolated event.

i love how there are so many people, like new people that are wanting a gm job, but like zach showed, no one applied for the Czech job (until <a href='index.php?showuser=2902' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-17'>Blastmeaway</a> came around).

i do agree with what u r saying, but i dont think people really want iihf gm jobs to start for some reason

ohh for sure, in the recent past these were jobs that were hard to fill and luckily we had managers like Samee to come in and help out. But things change quickly in the SHL, the most recent draft classes have enjoyed a junior IIHF tournament done by Brady Macintyre and there was at least a dozen members who got there first crack at a GM role... i myself applied for a few GM positions early on and didnt get them... then turned towards the IIHF to gain some valuable experience and i just want to make sure moving forward that we have an application process that allows any member who wants to find a way into GMing a shot at that over managers who already have 1 of the few sacred positions on the site.

The last hire I made as commish was for the UK position and we literally had one applicant for that again, and that was after the WJC had come back. It's a nice idea and I agree about a fed head position being a great introduction to GMing but the reality is some of the smaller nations get next to no applicants and you can't afford to be choosy with those who do apply
