S40 WJC is approaching.... Announcements inside
#1

With the 40th edition of the SMJHL drawing to a conclusion, it's time to look ahead to the offseason and the World Junior Championship.

Drawing from Caltroit's tourney from last season, a lot of the rules will remain the same.

This will be an eight-team tournament featuring SMJHL players primarily. If you were on an SMJHL roster at the end of season 40, you're eligible for play. Furthermore, if you're approved for the Season 41 SMJHL draft, you're eligible. Get those starting tasks done, rookies! The full eligibility guidelines are as follows:
  • 350 applied TPE or lower
  • 5 or less seasons of play
We will open the tournament with an exhibition stage in which each team will play each other once. This will allow the GMs to test line combos ahead of the main tournament. It'll also give us time to catch any errors that may arise in setting up the index.

Following the Exhibitions, Round Robin play will begin. There will be 2 pools of 4 teams, with pool opponents playing each other at least twice.

The elimination stage this season will include all 8 teams. The seeding for the quarter-finals will be as follows: Pool A 1st vs Pool A 4th, Pool A 2nd vs Pool A 3rd, Pool B 1st vs Pool B 4th, Pool B 2nd vs Pool B 3rd. All games are single-game elimination playoffs. The semi-finals will determine the medal round matchups, as always.

Some notable changes:
  • All teams will have 12 forwards, 6 defense and at least 1 goalie.
  • IIHF transfers will be observed.
Now for what you've all been waiting for: the teams!

The teams this season will be as follows:

Canada Canada
Usa USA
Latvia Latvia
Ireland Uk Ireland + UK
Norway Finland Sweden Scandanavia
Germany Austria Germany + Austria
Russia Czechoslovakia Russia + Czechoslovakia
Shl Team World*

* Team World will be comprised of all players not falling under the 12 mentioned IIHF nations.

GM Applications:

Since I can't make the decisions for every participating team, we are looking for team GMs. All positions are open! I'm looking for at least 1 GM per team along with an assistant. This is a great way to learn STHS and the world of managing a team in SHL. The jobs are unpaid, but the experience will be very invaluable should you wish to pursue future managing position in SHL.

If you are interested, please fill out the following application and send it to me via PM. Applications posted in this thread won't be accepted.

- Will there be pay for the winning teams? Like last season and how IIHF does it.
- Will there be a bronze medal game this go around?
- Will games be for 3 points, as is tradition for international play?

Shout out to ml002, schultzy, slashacm, tedward!
