With the start of free agency around the corner, many of the teams throughout the league have begun to lock up their soon to be free agents to keep them with their former teams. There is a lot of loyalty in the Simulation Hockey League and many of the league's best players stick with their original team much longer than what we see in other leagues. It is no surprise that this was the case in the early stages of this off season as well. We will take a look at who has already been extended with their current team...and who might make it to the open market.
<div align="center"> ![]() Season 21 Alonzo Garbanzo - D - 1245 TPE - Re-signed - Minnesota Chiefs ![]() ![]() Season 38 Dick Skillstedt - F - 761 TPE - Re-signed - Minnesota Chiefs ![]() ![]() Season 39 Sebastian Primeau - G - 409 TPE - Re-signed - Minnesota Chiefs ![]() ![]() The Chiefs did exactly what they needed to do here and struck a blow to the strength of this season's free agent class. The veteran, legendary defender Alonzo Garbanzo was locked down for three more years and a fair contract. A young defender and young goalie that show a lot of promise for the future of the Chiefs were also extended before hitting free agency. They have kept the future around and the team competitive for another season at least. There are quite a few big names missing from this list that teams should be keeping their eyes on. Lord Pretty Flacko, Terrance Nova, Sebastian Strange, Noctis Caelum, and Logan Jensen have not yet been given new deals. Logen Jensen a promising young forward who is a bit rough around the edges and has been surrounding by controversy for much of his career has been released, so at the very least it is safe to say he will be available on the market. The Chiefs have a lot of work to do if they want to make it back to the finals in season 41. ![]() Season 25 Jasper Clayton - D - 1245 TPE - Re-signed - New England Wolfpack ![]() ![]() Season 24 Patrikov Bure - F - 941 TPE - Re-signed - New England Wolfpack ![]() ![]() Season 26 Mainio Makinen - F - 788 TPE - Re-signed - New England Wolfpack ![]() ![]() Season 34 Carmeron DuBois - D - 754 TPE - Re-signed - New England Wolfpack ![]() ![]() Season 30 Cara Hohenberg - D - 696 TPE - Re-signed - New England Wolfpack ![]() ![]() Season 30 Jason Forbrook - F - 656 TPE - Re-signed - New England Wolfpack ![]() ![]() Season 33 Sebastian Thompson - G - 394 TPE - Re-signed - New England Wolfpack ![]() ![]() The Wolfpack also did a good job of bringing back their biggest assess. Jasper Clayton is locked down for another season on the back end. Patrick Bure re-signed a short term deal. Mainio Makinen is back for three. Cameron DuBois agreed to a standard one year deal for season 41. The Wolfpack has done a good job keeping most of who they must keep around to make another run. However, there are several names that should immediately grab your attention by NOT being on that list. Toivo Kosonen and Spitfire are two top tier defenders that have yet to re-sign with the Wolfpack. Furthermore, I have some inside information that the New England up and coming forward Oisin Fletcher is looking like they are going to be testing the market when free agency kicks off. These are all key pieces to New England that they will want to retain or they will be taking a step back in seasons to come. ![]() Season 34 Elias Lindstrom - F - 1034 TPE - Re-signed - Toronto North Stars ![]() ![]() Season 20 Kristian Eriksson - F - 1000 TPE - Re-signed - Toronto North Stars ![]() ![]() Season 38 Bobby Watson - F - 746 TPE - Re-signed - Toronto North Stars ![]() ![]() Season 33 Tommy Salami - D - 638 TPE - Re-signed - Toronto North Stars ![]() ![]() Season 38 Paddy Kane-Reilly - F - 485 TPE - Re-signed - Toronto North Stars ![]() ![]() Season 37 Anze Barbashev - D - 262 TPE - Re-signed - Toronto North Stars ![]() ![]() Season 37 Teppo Lehtonen - F - 214 TPE - Re-signed - Toronto North Stars ![]() ![]() Season 32 Yason Vassilios - F - 188 TPE - Re-signed - Toronto North Stars ![]() ![]() Season 29 Patrick Kilgore - F - 125 TPE - Re-signed - Toronto North Stars ![]() ![]() The North Stars brought back a lot of people prior to the kick off of free agency. There are a few younger guys that are still floating around, but in my opinion they kept everyone that they really needed to keep around. Bobby Watson and Paddy Kane-Reilly are looking like they will make a scary pairing on the front end in the near future and the Toronto front office was smart to keep them both in the building. This is the kind of off season teams need to have to build a strong franchise for the future. For my money, there are not any names missing from this list that I think are essential to the success of the North Stars. There are a few more players that they may sign later, but so far I think they locked down everyone they needed. Hats off to the North Stars front office. So far, I think they are winning the off season in terms of free agency and doing it under the radar. ![]() Season 28 Hunky Monkey - D - 801 TPE - Re-signed - Calgary Dragons ![]() ![]() Season 33 Thaddues Prince - G - 629 TPE - Re-signed - Calgary Dragons ![]() ![]() Season 39 Michael Fischer - F - 404 TPE - Re-signed - Calgary Dragons ![]() ![]() Season 39 Friedrich Schmidt - G - 288 TPE - Re-signed - Calgary Dragons ![]() ![]() So far, the Calgary Dragons have secured a few of their role players that were essential in their championship run this past season. But there are not too many players here that are going to blow anybody away. Fischer is a looking to be a solid forward and keeping him was important. Schmidt could be a great player if he keeps putting in the work too. Yet it is hard to focus on the small fish when there are some key names missing here. Joe Kurczewski still has not been locked down to continue his career in Calgary. I do not know if Joe has won his championship and plans to chase money now, but Calgary fans have got to be nervous. If losing arguably the top forward in the league is not scary enough, the Dragons also have not re-signed several of their other key forwards Alex Mack and Nocholas Pedersen are veterans without deals. Young studs Hunter Jones and Fenten Uriel are also set to hit the market. On the defensive side there are some other young studs that have not inked deals. Casey Creller made some plays in the finals and Ostap Maksimov has the makings of a star in his future. This is the kind of home grown talent that teams must keep around if they are going to stay relevant. If this was any other team I might be in full blown panic mode and assume these young players have achieve their ultimate goal of winning a Cup and are now going to chase their big paydays. However, the Calgary Dragons did not win the cup for nothing and they have one of the best front offices in the business. If this is the route they are taking, I guess you just have to trust the process. After all, they have never given you a reason to question the results before. ![]() Season 31 Geronimo Otto - F - 1636 TPE - Re-signed - San Francisco Pride ![]() ![]() The San Francisco Pride did a good job of locking down the big fish and their best free agent and they did it for three more seasons. That is a great move by a front office that is probably a bit underrated around the league. Geronimo Otto is a star and you want to keep your stars around. We do not even need to mention the cheap deal on this one either. Just a good way to start the off season. On the flip side, there is a lot of young talent that the Pride management has not been able to lock down yet. Dakota Reid, Kyler Gill, and Howie Dewitt are the future forwards of the franchise and they are all currently pending contracts. That is not a great position to be in, but who knows what is going on behind closed doors. Two other young forwards do not have young deals but they are both currently restricted free agents. It looks like Hans Gruber and Daniel Garland are going to go find what they are worth on the open market, and then the Pride will decide if they are worth it to the team. This good result in some cheap deals for San Francisco, but hopefully it does not backfire and cause them to lose some young talent. ![]() Season 34 Hermanis Villy - D - 311 TPE - Re-signed - Texas Renegades ![]() ![]() Season 38 Dustin Evans - G - 194 TPE - Re-signed - Texas Renegades ![]() ![]() Season 32 Yaneder Dilder - F - 162 TPE - Re-signed - Texas Renegades ![]() ![]() Season 32 Alex Reaper - F - 160 TPE - Re-signed - Texas Renegades ![]() ![]() Season 32 Elias Norberg - F - 155 TPE - Re-signed - Texas Renegades ![]() ![]() Previously, I mentioned the Renegades were in a great position entering free agency as they did not really have a bunch of young studs and or up and coming players lined up to test free agency. However, they still went out and gave contracts to a lot of the role players that are unsung heroes to teams throughout the league. Way to get this kind of thing done early so you can focus on the draft and the big names in free agency Texas. Looking to who is still missing, there are a few names I anticipate coming back to the team that are still waiting for deals, most concerning just might be the goalie Ekaterina Rudnikova who is in their prime and could test the market. Jack Durden and Conklin Owen are two star forwards that are still waiting for deals, but even though they are unsigned this close to free agency I would be shocked if they were playing in anything other than a Renegades jersey next season. Do not fret Texas fans, I think they have got this off season under control. ![]() Season 32 Max Weber - D - 1796 TPE - Re-signed - Winnipeg Jets ![]() ![]() Season 33 Isaac Cormier-Hale - D - 1273 TPE - Re-signed - Winnipeg Jets ![]() ![]() Season 33 Crossfit Jesus - F - 1116 TPE - Re-signed - Winnipeg Jets ![]() ![]() Season 37 Roberts Klavins - G - 232 TPE - Re-signed - Winnipeg Jets ![]() ![]() Season 40 Andrew Hawkins - F - 200 TPE - Re-signed - Winnipeg Jets ![]() ![]() Season 40 Jensen Trygg - F - 163 TPE - Re-signed - Winnipeg Jets ![]() ![]() Season 31 Alek Koivu - D - 1018 TPE - Re-signed - Winnipeg Jets ![]() ![]() </div> The last team that made moves before the kick off of free agency was arguably set up for the most interesting off season with a whole playoff team about to hit free agency. Fortunately for Winnipeg fans those worries are behind the team already. Most of the big name starts have re-signed deals and you can breath a sigh of relief. Your Max Weber, Isaac Cormier-Hale, and the fan favorite Crossfit Jesus jerseys will all be good for another season (Max Weber's for three! ![]() There are a few names that are still pending and still critical to the Jets team, but when part of the gang gets back together usually everyone tags along. However, maybe one of the remaining big three from Winnipeg could see the market. Maurizio Arrivabene, Big Manius, and Alek Koivu would all be great additions to just about any team. There is also some young talent from Winnipeg waiting on deals on both ends of the ice. Kire Yelkrab and Jean-Luc Picard might be available on the open market for teams looking for the players of the future. However, my sources are unclear and these two may be restricted free agents when the free agency period kicks off following the draft. I would not get my hopes too high on these guys, as the Jets front office surely has a plan to keep the players that are key to their franchise's success. There are still a lot of players poised to hit the open market in just over 24 hours. It will be interesting to see where these players and land and if they can move the needle on the league's standing following the results of season 40. Regardless, players chasing better locker rooms, more opportunities for on the ice success, or a big payday have the potential to make the next week leading up to season 41 an exciting one.
