S41 - Free Agency Watch Tracking the Top 100 Part 2

8303 words. I didn't count the team tracker, as I used it in another article. Grade whenever.

<div align="center"> 1 Joe Kurczewski - F - 2099 TPE
- - Calgary Dragons Dragons --> Calgary Dragons Dragons - 1 year, $3,000,000 per year deal - -
Seeing Joe Kurczewski at the top of this list should make general managers throughout the league giddy. Kurczewski is a star player that would immediately slot in on the first pairing for any team in the league. If that was not appealing enough for general managers and fans, Kurczewski has also shown that he has what it takes to perform on the biggest stage in the Simulation Hockey League after he helped to lead the Calgary Dragons to a championship this past season. Kurczewski is a blue chip player that should command top dollar if he decides that he is going to chase a pay check now that he has won a title in Calgary. If you are going to pursue one player on this entire list, I have saved you some time. Kurczewski is your guy.

Somehow I was able to convince the big man himself to sit down for a quick chat.

Code:
Er: You are the top ranked free agent this off season. You've made it, how does it feel?

JK: I like the sentiment, but I feel like i've been the "top FA" for a few seasons now, hahaha. But it still feels awesome to have a lot of your friends on the site ask you to come play with them!

Er: Some people are saying Terrance Nova or Conklin Owen would be better free agent additions this off season. What are your thoughts on that? What can you say to bump your stock as the offers begin to roll in?

JK: The only people that say that are fans of Minnesota and Texas. Nova and Owen are awesome guys, don't get me wrong, but there's only one Joe K. I don't need to bump my stock. i just won the challenge cup, and i have a real shot at some MVP awards this offseason. http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/winking/winking0001.gif

Er: You only signed a one year deal last season, what led you to hold off from a longer term payday?

JK: I tend to take one year deals to help suit Calgary's needs in terms of budget and stuff.

Er: What are you looking for in free agency?

JK: To end up back in Calgary for now.

Er: How does it feel to be a champion? What was the craziest thing you or a teammate did after the big win?

JK: Being a champion is the best feeling ever! We worked so damn hard for this cup this season. The craziest thing i've had a fellow cup winning teammate do after we won was to opt out of Calgary to go back to Seattle.

Er: What motivates you to hit the ice everyday?

JK: Esa.

Er: Any advice for the younger up and coming players to getting to where you are in your career?

JK: Focus on defense. Trust me.

Er: Is a hot dog a sandwich?

JK: nah.

Thanks for a little bit of your time Joe! Good luck in the coming season!

2 Terrance Nova - F - 1800 TPE
- - Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs --> Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs - 1 year, $7,500,000 per year deal - -
Terrance Nova is another star forward that is coming off an excellent season. Nova helped lead his team to the finals where they nearly took the trophy back to Minnesota but were edged out by Calgary in a hard fought seven game series. Now I know there is a lot of buzz surrounding one of the league's faces in Joe Kurczewski, but Nova is a top free agent, and I'll let you in on a little secret, he's younger too! Nova would be just as much as an upgrade for any team in the league at the front end. If your team is struggling to score, Nova is a guy that is going to make things happen for your team offensively. I would also be remiss if I did not mention Nova won a cup just a season ago for the Chiefs.

I was fortunate enough to sit down with Terrance Nova and have an exclusive one on one interview.

Code:
Er: Thank you for taking some time our of your busy pre-free agency schedule to sit down with me. I hope this earns you a bigger contract after teams get the opportunity to see a different side of the star forward Terrance Nova. You are an extremely talented player ranked near the top of this years free agency class, how do you feel about your ranking?

TN: There are a lot of talented guys on that list so its big to be ranked that high. I put in a lot of work to get where I am and the same can be said about the others, so its a good feeling.

Er: Do you believe you are under ranked? What can you say to bump your stock as the offers begin to roll in?

TN: I mean, I'm a competitor, I'm experienced, coming off back to back finals appearances, and I think I'm in my prime so thats a good feeling. I'm ranked 2nd on that list behind Joe, I think? Joe is hell of a player, hes older than me but started in the league around the same time and we gave each other fits in the finals series... I think it makes a lot of sense to have us two as the top 2 free agents on the list.

Er: How can you convince general mangers that you are a better signing than Joe K or Conklin Owen?

TN: It would be tough to do that because both players are great but I have just as much of a competitive edge as those two guys. Managers know what I can bring, I have a lot of hockey left in me even though I'm eventually hitting regression soon but I have all the confidence needed to say that I'm the best center in the league right now, hands down.

Er: What are you looking for in free agency?

TN: Loyalty, IQ and someone who will hear me out. I mean, someone who will understand my situation not just financially but my gameplan and ideas, because at the end of the day, finances and contracts will be taken care of.. but the other things like happiness and, like, what we need to do going forward, addressing important issues, peace of mind and communication are key for performance and morale. So just coming together, showing me how you can help me going forward into my career as a manager could work wonders too.

Er: What motivates you to hit the ice everyday?

TN: Just knowing I'm a top player, and I can not be outplayed or defended by anyone in the SHL is enough for me to keep going. I'm a full time hockey player so it's what I do, there are guys out there that don't put enough effort and get left in the dust. I'm grateful I was given a chance to be here and want to keep going.

Er: A pickle jar says a pickle has 0 calories, care to explain that for the kids at home?

TN: Pickles are cucumbers and cucumbers are negative- calorie foods, meaning it takes more energy to digest a pickle than you get out of it. So basically even though pickles have calories, you're using more energy to consume it than you actually get out of it.

Thanks for taking some time to chat with me Terrance. I had a blast. For those at home, I will be the first to admit I am a Joe Kurczewski fanboy. But Terrance impressed me with our face to face time. Not only is he a killer on the ice, he has a head on his shoulders. It should be clear that Terrance Nova is going to command top dollar if he makes it to the open market later today, but from my experience with him as a player both on and off the ice, he will be well worth every penny for many seasons to come.

3 Conklin Owen - F - 1772 TPE
- - Texas Renegades Renegades --> Texas Renegades Renegades - 1 year, $8,000,000 per year deal

4 Toivo Kosonen - D - 1660 TPE
- - New England Wolfpack Wolfpack --> New England Wolfpack Wolfpack - 1 year, $3,000,000 per year deal

5 Maximilian Wachter - F - 1651 TPE
- - Los Angeles Panthers Panthers --> Los Angeles Panthers Panthers - 1 year, $5,000,000 per year deal - -

6 Sebastian Strange - F - 1645 TPE
- - Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs --> RETIRED - -
Sebastian Strange is the name on this list that should crush fans of the game the most. Strange was a forward that was in the prime of his career and a star for the almost champion Minnesota Chiefs team. However, Strange decided that commitments outside of the Simulation Hockey League were his true passion and he retired at the end of this season. Strange would have found himself among the most desirable free agents in this years class and would have commanded a hefty contract. Unfortunately, it was no in the cards for Strange and his family. Many had hoped that he could ride off into the sunset after winning a championship, but it was not meant to be. Many will always remember Strange's performance in game 6 of the finals where he pressured the Calgary Dragons defense shot after shot. Enjoy your retirement Mr. Strange, you have earned it.

7 Zander Rhys - D - 1521 TPE
- - Hamilton Steelhawks Steelhawks --> Toronto North Stars Stars - 1 year, $8,000,000 per year deal - -
Zander Rhys is arguably the best defender in this season's free agency class. Toivo Kosonen may be ranked slightly hire than Rhys in TPE, but few think Kosonen will actually leave New England. This means that if you are a team that needs some defensive help on your back end and you want an immediate upgrade, Zander Rhys is your guy. Rhys has some solid skills and really shines by playing finesse defense and making plays on the opposing net. Perhaps most important, Zander Rhys is a free agent hitting the market before he has even reached his prime. If you are able to snag him in free agency you are going to have a top end blue chip player for many future seasons. For my money, he might just be one of the best free agents of this years class. We were fortunate enough to sit down with the high profile defender and ask him a couple of quick questions.

Code:
Er: You are an extremely talented player ranked near the top of this years free agency class, how do you feel about your ranking?

ZR: The rank is based on TPE, ranking 7th makes sense. Being top ten is always a great achievement especially looking at the players ranked below me.

Er: Do you believe you are under ranked? What can you say to bump your stock as the offers begin to roll in?

ZR: Definitely, since this list does not take regression under consideration. Plus, there's a GM player and a retired player ranked above me. Not sure why...

Er: What will convince general managers you're a better free agency acquisition than Toivo Kosonen?

ZR: First of all, Toivo is a scrub. He is also a GM, which automatically eliminates chances of him signing for any other team than New England. Finally, he is regressing, so I have higher TPE and 2 years before I hit regression.

Er: You are ranked slightly behind a few forwards, but it looks like you're likely going to be the best defender to test free agency. How does it feel to have made it?

ZR: Honestly, not surprised to have made the list. I am the best defender available after all.

Er: What are you looking for in free agency?

ZR: A chance to meet other GMs whom I barely spoke to. A team that can offer me the best opportunity to win a Stevens.

Er: What motivates you to hit the ice everyday?

ZR: The game it self along with the salary that it comes with.

Er: I have you pegged as my unsung gem of free agency and I think some general managers around the league agree, why are you flying under the radar? What are your feelings on being a potential game changer for a team?

ZR: I don't think I am flying under radar. Pretty much every GM knows that I am available as a free agent. I feel that I have accomplished something. It feels great to be desired by some many.

Er: You have to create a sim league for a sim league sim league, what does the league you create look like? Why do you win the league?

ZR: I would like to create a soccer league, most likely the La Liga. I would win because I would manage Barcelona and obviously they are the best team in Spain at the moment.

Er: Pretend you're a general manager. What three concerns about your franchise's future are going to keep you up at night?

ZR: Whether or not I have a solid top 4 to compete in the playoff.

Zander we know you are a busy man and must be inundated with offers from around the league. Thank you for chatting and good luck in free agency!

After a few days on the market Zander Rhys took a big deal continue to believe in himself and his abilities, setting himself up for another big contract in free agency next season if things don't work out in Toronto. Toronto is a tema that faced a lot of shots with a young goalie and really needed help on the defensive end. Adding the top defensive free agent will help. It looks like Rhys was attracted by a GM that was willing to go out and make moves to try to win a cup. It will be interesting to see what he can do for the North Stars in the coming season.

8 Lord Pretty Flacko - F - 1437 TPE
- - Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs --> Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs - 1 year, $6,000,000 per year deal - -

9 Jack Durden - F - 1283 TPE
- - Texas Renegades Renegades --> Texas Renegades Renegades - 1 year, $8,000,000 per year deal

9.2 Louie Garrett - F - 1277 TPE
- - Calgary Dragons Dragons --> Seattle Riot Riot - 3 year, $8,000,000 per year deal - -
Louie Garrett is coming off of a championship win by exercising his market and hitting the open market. Garrett's agent has publicly said he is leaving Calgary to return to his hometown team the Seattle Riot. However, he is still willing to consider and listen to the offers of other teams across the league. Garrett was an instant fan favorite in Calgary and will surely put fans in the stands wherever he goes. Garrett is a blue chip player that would immediately improve the front end of every team in the league. It will be interesting to see where he ends up at the start of the season. I am sure his intentions are good and his return to Seattle would be a LeBron Jamas type story, but there are rumblings that he may receive an offer or two he just cannot refuse from some other teams in the league.

10 Noctis Caelum - D - 1215 TPE
- - Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs --> Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs - 1 year, $6,000,000 per year deal - -

11 Big Manius - D - 1179 TPE
- - Winnipeg Jets Jets --> Winnipeg Jets Jets - 2 Year, $3,000,000 per year deal. - -
It should not come as a surprise that Bag Manius is keeping his talents in Winnipeg. Manius is in the twilight of his career and with him back on the roster the Jets remain a playoff caliber team that could go the distance. I am hearing rumors that this will be Manius' final contract in the Simulation Hockey League and the Jets' fans will be happy to see him retire in a Winnipeg jersey in the near future.

12 Oisin Fletcher - F - 1171 TPE
- - New England Wolfpack Wolfpack --> New England Wolfpack Wolfpack - 2 year, $4,000,000 per year deal - -
Oisin Fletcher is one of the top young forwards in this years free agency class. His combination of skill and experience is extremely rare in a player of his age. If you signed Fletcher today you would have a forward that could immediately slot into your first line and be an excellent player. If you are fortunate enough to sign Fletcher to a longer term deal in a few seasons you will have the league's next Joe Kurczewski. Fletcher has all of the makings of becoming on of the top players in the entire league when, not if, they continue on their trajectory into their prime. Oisin is exactly the kind of player teams should be fighting over to build a team around. Oisin is the kind of player you can sign today and have a dynasty build around in a few seasons.

I had the opportunity to have Oisin on the phone for an interview and I jumped at the opportunity.

Code:
Er: You are testing free agency and ranked as one of the top younger players on the market, do you feel you are properly ranked at #12?

OF: We seems to be ranked in order of competition we brought to the league and the work we put at developing ourselves. Honestly being in the top 12 while still being so young is quite an honor.

Er: That's a great outlook to have, what would you say if some general managers are saying you'd be ranked in the top 10 if the rankings were re-released on the start of the regular season?

OF: I wouldn't really be surprised. I train hard all off-season long and i know i can bring a lot to any team that would want to sign me. Right now i am taking this slow and letting my phone ring a bit.

Er: So your phone is already ringing, want to share who's calling with our readers?

OF: Multiple teams across the league have contacted me today, to name a few Seattle, Calgary, Minnesota, Toronto, Hamilton and surprisingly for me some players from Edmonton also called.

Er: Sounds like you have quite the market. Is there anything you can share that would bump your stock to get the teams from the other half of the league to grab their phones and call you right away?

OF: After the disaster of the New England Wolfpack draft, i am a little bit less inclined to resign with them. I have a meeting with the management tomorrow to talk over things that happen, but well im saying that in case some people think it's worthless to contact me because I'd just resign with them.

Er: Oh man. That is big news! So it seems like you want to join a team that can make a run, is that correct? What else are you looking for in free agency?

OF: I am not even sure myself i am looking for a cup contender for sure if i am behing 100% honest. I know i dont want to go to a team going toward the bottom, but if it's a young team on the rise, even if not yet cup contender, it would be a good fit. I'll also be looking for a short term contract right now. Maybe like 1 season or 2 seasons with a player option. other than that, money don't interest me.

Er: Who is the best forward in the SHL today?

OF: Chris York or Joe K are definitively the name coming up when you wonder who would be a good player.

Er: How lucky are you and why?

OF: I would say not really lucky, im putting in the work and I harvest what I sow.

Er: What would the name of your debut album be?

OF: Time is an Illusion.

Er: Describe the color yellow to someone who is blind.

OF: Warm as a ray of sun.

Er: How are M&M’s made?

OF: Molding
   1 The liquid chocolate is poured into tiny molds to create the chocolate centers of the candy. (If they are peanut or almond M&Ms®, the chocolate surrounds a whole peanut or almond. For peanut butter chocolate M&Ms'the peanut butter center is made first, and then surrounded by the chocolate. The production process that follows is essentially the same for all varieties.)
   2 After the candies are formed, they are "tumbled" to make the chocolate center smooth and rounded. Then they are allowed to harden.
Coating
   3 When the chocolates are hard, they are transported via conveyor belt to the coating area, where the process called panning is performed.
   4 During panning, the chocolates are rotated in large containers as liquid candy made of sugar and corn syrup is sprayed onto them. The coats are sprayed on rotating chocolates at timed intervals. These intervals allow each coat to dry. Each coat leaves an even layer, a shell, of dry candy substance. The chocolate centers receive several coatings to ensure a uniform, complete coat on every piece.
   5 The color is added to a finishing syrup and applied as the final coat. Each batch is a different color. Finally, the liquid candy dries into the hardened shell.
   6 The single-colored batches are combined into the mixtures of red, yellow, blue, green, brown, and orange. They are then transported to the machine that stamps the "m" on the shells. A special conveyor belt carries the pieces to this machine. Each piece rests in its own indentation. The piece runs under rubber etch rollers that gently touch each candy to print the "m." This machine is specially designed to imprint the "m" without cracking the thin candy shell. The process used is similar to the off-set printing process. Approximately 2.6 million M&Ms' are transported to the etching machine per hour. One hundred million individual M&Ms® can be manufactured per day.
Packaging
   7 A special packaging machine weighs the candies, pours the proper amount into individual bags, and heat-seals the package. Plain M&Ms' are proportioned (approximately) as follows: 30% brown; 20% yellow; 20% red; 10% green; 10% orange; 10% blue. Peanut M&Ms' are 20% brown; 20% yellow; 20% red; 20% blue; 10% green; and 10% orange. Peanut Butter Chocolate M&Ms® and Almond M&Ms® have even proportions (20% each) of yellow, red, green, blue, and brown.
   8 The finished packages are moved along a conveyor belt to a machine that assembles the shipping cartons and fills them with the appropriate number of candy packages. The machine also seals the cartons shut.

Er: Woah, that was a more detailed answer than I anticipated. Alright, last question what motivates you to get out of bed and train everyday?

OF: What motivates me? Doing what I love. I wouldn't trade hockey for anything in life. When people say to find a job you love and you'll never have to work in your life, they are 100% right.

Oisin thank you for taking some time out to teach me about M&Ms and chat about your upcoming journey in the league. It was a blast and I look forward to seeing your career unfold. To all of the readers out there, be sure to check out Oisin's solo album, "Time is an Illusion" coming to stores this fall.

<div align="center"> 26 Logan Jensen - F - 719 TPE - Released - Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs -->
Logan Jensen is very likely the most polarizing player on this list. I have a close source that has shared a locker room with Logan and had no issues during their time on the same roster. Though the player did admit Logan could be a bit...unwise with some of his off the ice antics. However, Logan is a young player and while it shows sometimes off of the ice, it also means he has a long career ahead of him on the ice. Logan made his way to free agency a bit unconventionally for this league, being cut as he approached the prime of his career following a championship and a finals appearance. To get a better idea of what kind of player Logan Jensen is, I sat down with the man himself.

Code:
Er: You made the top 100 free agents list. How do you feel about your ranking? I have received word from a few GMs that you are ranked TOO high on the list. What do you have to say to GMs that believe you belong in the late 80s/90s when you compare yourself with players currently ranked there?

LJ: Overall I know I’m the best player on the ice and any team who signs me will be satisfied with the results they get.

Er: Do you believe you are under ranked? What can you say to bump your stock as the offers begin to roll in?”

LJ: I don’t believe in rankings really I believe my game is elevated and personally I know I’m the best player out there and all that matters to me is winning.

Er: You have bounced around the league a lot since you joined, what can you say to GMs concerned you are not a long term piece?

LJ: I was drafted to the Pride and then traded to La where I was released after a thunder dome on a well known and liked member within the site. Minnesota Gave me a second chance which I will always be grateful for in which we won a cup and made it back to the finals back to back so a lot got done when I was there but ultimately Minny just wasn’t the fit.
I do believe both sides don’t have any beef against each other and will be rooting each other on, if you wanna know how I am in a lock room just as any Crows Alum.

Er: We talked to some Crows alums and one said that he never had an issue with Logan in the locker room. He also mentioned Logan brought energy to the group that some of the other locker rooms they had been in lacked. While he could be a bit over enthusiastic at times, especially to members of other teams, overall he was a positive presence IN the lock room and most of the issues were from the outside's view of him.

Er: Obviously, you have a reputation that proceeds you. I have heard rumors that some GMs would like to sign you, but they're worried about how their locker room will interact or that you'll scare away future FAs. What are your thoughts on these rumors?

LJ: I don’t pay attention to many rumors you either actually know me and we get along fine or you don’t know me at all and base your perspective from the thunder domes and shit talk posts. Overall I’m a great locker room presence and anytime will be happy to welcome me in.

Er: I am a believer that in this sport, talent trumps everything else, sell your talents to any general managers reading this.

LJ: I’m the best out there that simple.

Er: I sort of agree with that statement. The best out there might be a bit aggressive, but you are one of the top TPE earners of your class and have remained active for several seasons. If you continue on the correct path you will be a great player for a team in the future when you are on the ice.

Er: I think that you still could turn your career around despite controversy that may follow you, do you think this is path you can take? Is it one you want to?

LJ: I don’t think I need to turn my career around at all I’ve been playing great winning a cup with St Louis and Minny winning the cup in the same season and as a rookie went to the challenge cup Finals losing in a tough game 7 so I think my career is on the right path.

Er: It is a new era in the league and I have heard the beginnings of player agents popping up to negotiate on behalf of players with GMs, how do you feel about a service like this.

LJ: Player agents oh Lordy Jesus Fuk no.

Er: Would you be willing to shed some light on your release from Minnesota and the events that led to it? Now is the opportunity to tell your story.

LJ: The locker room is active but not as active as St. Louis was, I attempted to start conversations but just ended up shit talking the bruins most of the time, overall the locker room is full of great people who made the league fun for me I wouldn’t have wanted to make a cup run with any other team. Baelor and Andy gave me a second chance at the league and I will always be grateful for that and there is no bad blood between me and Minny I will always be cheering them on.

Er: I appreciate your candor on this. It cannot be easy being cut at this point in your career. It speaks volumes about your character that you still hold the Chiefs and their front office in high regard. WWhat are you looking for in free agency? Have you had any offers yet? Where are your top 3 destinations? Is there anywhere you wouldn't go?

LJ: I haven’t had any offers yet because that would be tampering at this point, my top 3 destinations won’t be leaked but I will be speaking with people to find a good home I’ll be going after a cup not the money, there isn’t really a place I wouldn’t go.

Er: What motivates you to hit the ice everyday?

LJ: Just the bank because if I don’t get a contract soon I’ll go bankrupt.

Er: Sometimes you say things that I could classify as a "Logan-ism," do you have any to share exclusively in this interview?

LJ: I just sneezed and bit my fucking tongue.

Er: That will do.

Overall, Logan is a player that helps your team when he is on the ice. He is still a green prospect and sitting comfortably over 700 TPE. A lot of teams are out their searching for pieces to make them relevant or bring a cup to their franchise and Logan Jensen can help you do that. Following my interview with Logan I felt that he was turning over a new leaf after his time in Minnesota. Logan was the first person to schedule his free agency interview with me, and has shown his commitment to the league. No general manager is going to question his activity. His view on the Chiefs definitely showed a change in his character, and shall I dare say it, some maturity. I am sure we will still have glimpses of the Logan Jensen we all know as well, but in the end I think most locker rooms around the league are focused around bringing together a bunch of different people from different generations, paths, and places to win a championship. Logan Jensen has won a Four Star Cup and a Challenge Cup in his short career, with just one game off from a second, despite what you hear about him this kid is a winner that definitely swings for the fences. Maybe you can make your team one too.

Update: We also had the opportunity to talk down with one member from Minnesota's locker room, goal tender Olli O'Koivu told us, "Crows locker room versus Minny locker room... hmmmmm, I left both. Logan in both and a staunch defender of Wiki... Coincidence? Nah. #1 reason I had been considering free agency myself after S41." It looks like there may definitely be another side to this one folks!

I have some insider information that is also telling me Logan Jensen is very likely to sign a contract within the first 24 hours of free agency. I do not know who the interested teams are in the league, or what the structure of these contracts look like, but despite what some people are thinking, it does not look like Logan Jensen will be waiting around for a new job for long. If you want to be part of this kid's comeback story, you are going to need to have an offer ready for him as soon as he officially hits the market.

Dakota Reid is a young prospect that is ranked in the top third of this seasons free agents. Dakota Reid's agent has made it clear prior to the start of free agency their Reid will in fact be fielding offers from other teams and possibly be taking their talents from San Francisco to a new city. If you are looking for a young forward that has a few years until they hit their prime and can contribute for the next decade or so, Reid may be your girl.

We sat down with the forward for an interview to get to know them before they hit the market.

Code:
Er: You are a young player ranked just inside the top third of this years free agency class, how do you feel about your ranking?

DR: I think it's nice to be thought so well of. I remember that my first time going into the market didn't go that well since no one contacted me except for the Pride. I even reached out to other teams but they apparently just couldn't fit me in. Hopefully this time around there's a bit more competition and more options available to me.

Er: Do you believe you are under ranked? What can you say to bump your stock as the offers begin to roll in?

DR: Not at all. At least I think so, I haven't really checked who else is on the market. If this is a bad year I'd say that's fair and if there's multiple all-stars, I'd say maybe I'm overrated. And I say this in anticipation of getting better. I haven't really been playing at my full potential and I've figured out some areas in which I need to get better. And think that's exactly what I want to say to teams: That my past play was not my best, my best is still ahead of me. So if they want to buy low and sell high, I'm right here.

Er: You have expressed interest in testing the free agency market? What precipitated your desire to potentially leave San Francisco?

DR: Well, I still want to be able to have the option to go somewhere else. It's something I said during my first bout in free agency and it's still true. Although, more recently it's due to the fact that the team is about to go into a rebuild and I'd prefer to always be contending. I have nothing against San Francisco and I may even end up just re-signing with them by the time free agency is up, but I want to see if there's any other routes I can take.

Er: The Reid family has a history of short careers, is Dakota going to have a similarly short career in the league, or will they be the type of player a franchise can rely on for the long haul?

DR: Are you talking about my husband? No, I don't think that has anything to do with me. He retired when he felt he needed to retire, I'll retire when I'm ready. Might I remind you that my idol is Mr. Hockey himself, who played all the way into his 50's. I'm not leaving the game anytime soon. If a franchise wants to invest in me I won't leave them hanging.

Er: Has there been anything interesting you would like to share about the free agency process?

DR: Like the fact that everyone forgot about me two years ago and I have had to reach out to multiple GMs just to get told there's no room? Really, this is still a new experience for me since the last time I was on the market no one was looking.

Er: Lastly, what are you looking for in free agency? What motivates you to hit the ice everyday?

DR: I guess specifically, I don't want to go to Winnipeg. And that's about it. Oh! I'm looking for a good city, a good locker room, and hopefully a physical team that's ready to go to the playoffs again. Or maybe a skill-based team. Really that's a big question in hockey strategy when talking about team styles and whether I'd fit best with other players who play like me or being the goon to send out and protect the fragile lads. Personally I feel like I can do it either way, but in the end it's up to the coaches as to how they want to play me. All I want to do is score and then hit some people. That may turn some GMs away worried about penalties, but I play how I play and no one is going to make me change that.

Thank you for taking some time out of your busy schedule Dakota! I think all of the general managers and front offices across the league that you have a bit of vision for your career and a bit more experienced this go around. I would be surprised if you found yourself with limited offers during this run of free agency.
