#91

I'm glad this rule is in place. As you all know I'm no good at making insults because of my... Diss Ability

I feel like the lowered number of suspensions hasn’t really came from more relaxed rules but rather less visibility because of the way activity has moved to discord over time. You can’t just click a report button on a discord post, and even the league owners don’t have access to every single SHL related discord. And I think that movement originally occured because of unnessecery suspensions and word policing back in the day,
I can think of a few examples of suspensions that received a ton of backlash.

Not terribly relevant to the conversation, but that's an interesting outlook. Mostly because when the transition to Discord was happening around the time I joined the league, most of the - hmm, how to phrase this - more caustic members among us really enjoyed hating the people who were moving to Discord because it was killing the forums and gave them a "safe space" from the vitriol of the forums they enjoyed so much. So now to think those people would have retreated to Discord to avoid punishment from the thought police is, well, it's neat. Just me thinking out loud, carry on.

Eh, I would strongly disagree there. IIRC, Even as far back as when I joined teams like the Renegades had a chatzy locker room rather than one on the site for the exact reasons I described above. Maybe some of the later moves were brought upon by people like Gorlab, and I can’t say for sure where most of the blame lies. I can say for certainty that at least some of It was due to more freedom in speech though. The disconnect from the site allowed for a little more of that.

Plus I really don’t see how escaping the boards in favor of a discord available to all SHL’ers was really a good way to escape toxicity tbh. As I recall a lot of people started using It just because It was convenient on mobile. Maybe some of the more caustic members did dislike It yeah, but I don’t really think anyone thought of It as offering a “safe space” because that’s what LR’s were to begin with. And if your LR moved to discord, is that more of a safe space? A new platform with all the same members but less policing hardly makes for an effective safe space and I really find It hard to believe people saw It that way.

The Chatzy's were different. Don't ask me how. That's just what I was told. I also think that's bullshit, and wouldn't be surprised if you are right on that.

It wasn't so much the SHL Discord as much as draft class/team Discords. I don't think anyone doing it thought it was an act of going to a safe space. If anything, they would have quickly learned that wasn't the case because of the magical art of the screenshot. But the ARGUMENT against Discord, as hypocritical as it may have been because of Chatzys and whatever the fuck before it, was that these were soft people running away from the hardasses.

I'm not saying it was an intelligent argument. I'm saying it was the argument.

I remember Gorlab and his type saying that, but those guys were far more interested in posturing and self fellating than they were in critical thinking.

Gorlab was banned by the time I joined, but otherwise I think we're starting to see where we are coming from here. Cheers
