I believe GMs should be paid as they have the hardest jobs in the league, in my opinion, in running a team and controlling everything about the team. Without them, it would be impossible for this league to run even remotely well. They should be paid, and paid big time.

I do think that GMs should be paid. They do enough work throughout both the season and off season that they deserve some extra compensation. This is especially true considering that there are other jobs that are paid that have people who aren't pulling their own weight. As for how to implement this, I would just say that they get paid at the end of each season.

-[b]There's been a lot of chatter about IIHF lately, though not entirely for the best reasons. Do you think players should be allowed to bench themselves without having to transfer out? Additionally, do you think the transfer rules are good as they stand? If not, what would you like to see in place of the system currently present?

I think a player should be able to bench themselves or not play; I don't know how intricate or difficult that is on the back-end, but a player should have the agency to make his/her own playing decision.
-Ah, yes, everyone's favorite debate - whether we should pay GMs or not. Where do you stand on this, and if it's in the affirmative, how should this be carried out?
I think they should be paid they have to put in a lot more time than others, couple different ways to get paid I would say is based on the amount of players that they can keep active over the year or just based on the success that the team has overall that season.

I 100% think that GMs should be paid, they put a lot of work into making this league run & have to be very active and keep everything up to date. I think one of the reasons I wouldn’t be a GM is due to the amount of work you put in with no pay.
I'm quite excited for the Calgary/Winnipeg matchup. Feels like there's always something about it... I'm hoping we can pull it out, since it certainly feels like they've had our number lately. As for key players, I'm definitely looking towards Corey Bearss to show up big on our end, and looking at some shut-down game from Adam Kaiser on the Dragons.

STHS is too random to base GM pay on success in it. I ran probably 30 test sims of just the final two sims of the SMJHL and had PGF and MTL both winning out 0 times.

I think players should be allowed to sit out from the IIHF if they want. People shouldn’t have to participate in a competition if they don’t want to. The players should be able to decide if they want to go not the coaches. In real life a coach can’t force a player that doesn’t want to play to play.

GMs should be paid. While their salary shouldn't be huge, they should be compensated for the time and effort they put into their teams each season

Yes, They really should be. SHL/SMJHL GMs do so much work and are a major part of the community and are why this place is so great.

Yeah, players should be able to retire from international play. If someone on the UK wanted to sit out I would honor that if I could. However the active over inactive roster rule would make it difficult for me to let someone sit out.
I could see issues if a significant number of people decided to sit out from international play, especially on the smaller nations where we struggle for decent active players

Playoffs! Obviously, not every matchup has been solidified yet (although they will be before this PT closes). That being said, which (potential) matchup are you most excited about? Who do you think will be the key players on each end, and who do you think can pull out the wins?

I am excited to see the series between the Edmonton Blizzard and the Los Angeles Panthers! As an alumni of both teams which both have great rosters it is going to be really exciting to see what happens!

-To be honest I didn't even read the other questions because this one is always a fight, and being a GM, I have that first hand experience of yes, they should be paid. We discussed this a couple times even in my short tenure, and there is still a great divide it seems like, even with GM's. I don't think they should have a ridiculous pay, but a 3-4M per year is very reasonable for the amount of time you actually put into your team. I'm not, and have never been a very active forum member, but being around Discord all the time to help players, and especially with SMJHL GM's where new members are a plenty, it s tough job just being around here and making sure the team is working as it should be. That's why a small base of 3-4M is very reasonable, it's enough where you don't really need another job and can supplement the rest of your training with other tasks such as double media weeks and such.

Absolutely yes. Even if it is a sought out position, GMs still need to be paid. They put a huge amount of work in, and are integral to the success of the site. I saw some concern that some people would only be interested in it for the money, but I highly doubt that in any application process a person can deceive everyone into believing this, and then run a team into the ground. Even teams now, despite not paying them, have GMs running their operation into the ground. Nothing will change.
