Kovacs Brother SHL Joint Articles

The following is part 1 of a 4 part series featuring the Czechoslovakian brother duo recently drafted in the first round of the S43 SMJHL entry draft. In this article we see the brothers pen a heartfelt letter to their father. Stay tuned for part 2 and part 3 with myself, Jonáš Seagull, as I sit down with both brothers individually to get their take on the draft. Following this up we will be releasing the much talked about Bath Brothers feature article and what their mother meant to them, bring some tissues folks this will be a good one!

A Letter To Our Father, The Kovacs

We've finally made it! After all these hard years of work in North America we were drafted into the SMJHL. With that we are one step closer to the SHL. It’s sad that you won’t be able to join us but we understand that you have things to care of back home. We hope to have you come over later in the season, by then we will know Halifax a lot better and can show you around.

I [Kristof] just wanted to say that after being drafted with all the excitement, it has made us reflect on growing up and how lucky we were to have an amazing father like you. I can imagine it was difficult after mom passed away and hockey seemed to be the perfect escape for all three of us.

All the early 5am morning practices, getting hot chocolate afterwards and spending the day exploring and playing games together. Even though you had worked yourself to the bone during the week, you always somehow made plenty of time for us. You kept us motivated and helped with our dreams, instilling the drive and work ethic we needed to make it as far as we have.

We hope to make you proud and to show you that all your hard work and faith in us has paid off. Do you remember the countless hours we spent trying to perfect my wrist shot? The thousands of feeds to get my snap and follow through just right? HA! [Oliver] Thousands? Sorry brother it was more like hundreds of thousands! I remember father how you would PVR all the NHL games every night, how you got gamecenter. You would pick specific games and tell me to watch this player or that one and how to learn from them. You were going over video with me before I even knew what that meant. I think most fondly I remember how even when mom passed you didn’t falter, you stayed strong and made sure we stay focused and for that father, I thank you.

I [Kristof] think we can both agree our favourite memories were always when we went to the ODR after dinner. The two of us shooting on you in goal you’d always try your best but you got lit up brighter than the Northern Lights.

We hope that one day we will be able to repay you for all that you have given us and give you everything you deserve. You are an amazing father, friend, and role model. We cannot picture a better mentor growing up we hope to be at least half the man you are one day.
