TSN: Hey Leshaun, thanks for talking with us. Leshaun: Yeah no problem. TSN: Did having such a strong preseason make you feel better going into your first SMJHL game tonight? LK: Uhm, I guess you never really know what the real show is like until you actually get out there. Definitely had butterflies that first shift, but got the first shift out of the way, came back and was sort of out of my mind. TSN: A big 2-1 win to start the regular season off, how important is starting the season off with a win for you guys? LK: Well you know it's a long season, 50 games, and every 2 points is worth the same. Obviously we like getting some momentum early, but we know we've done nothing yet, it's 2% of the season each game, so we do value each game, but we don't let ourselves get too high over anything or too low over anything. TSN: You were anchoring a new line tonight, with Shooter gone to calgary you had Crush on your right wing tonight, how was that. LK: He's a great player with a great shot, if you can set him up open he'll wire it, he had a few chances tonight and I'm sure he's going to bury one soon. TSN: Congratulations on your first SMJHL goal, the eventual game winner, walks us through what happened on that play. LK: Yeah, it was close to the end of the third, I think. Aiden had a nice goal early in the third to get us into the game. Honestly our goalie carried us tonight, we shouldn't of been zero zero going into the third, but Geezus played out of his mind and we did. But anyways, like I said Aiden potted one early to take the lead and then I was lucky to get one with about five minutes left to go in the third. Quinn shot the puck on net, I tried deflecting it and the shot missed the net, I went into the corner to scoop up the puck and gave it back to Quinn, he teed it up again and I just got my stick on it and deflected it five hole, so you know, two great shots by Quinn I was just lucky to be in front of the net and get my stick on it. TSN: Due to a late goal by Vancouver that ended up being the game winner. What were your thoughts on your performance this game and your teams performance. LK: First of all, I need to improve. Only had two shots on net this game, which isn't great. I was 17/36 in the dot, so one more to break even, knew it be a challenge going up against Andani, but I need to be winning half those faceoffs at least to keep possession with our team. Was on the power play for a minute and half with out doing anything, and then, played just over four minutes of the penalty kill so glad we didn't get scored on there. As a team, our goalie was great, usually when you have to say that it means as a tema you didn't play well enough infront of him. Out shoot 33 to 22, gave up 5 power plays, so never a good way to start the season, can't be killing time all game. Aiden was fantastic, and my hats off to Pierre Laroche-Durocher @lespoils, he plays that shut down role, was on for 22 and half minutes of even strength with out letting a goal come in and over three minutes of penalty kill. Four hits, four blocked shots. Just a very solid game by him. TSN: Okay Leshaun, thanks, and good luck tomorrow against Detroit we'll talk to you tomorrow. LK: Yeah, thank you. 654 Words
