PGS Game 37 - Colorado vs Montreal
#16

Beatdown of the Week

This one was not pretty. Montreal fell apart early and couldn't get it together again. Vrana is starting to show cracks after the high expectations placed on him at the beginning of the season. He was 11 for 15 on saves before getting pulled late in the second. Anthony was perfect for the rest of the game.

Colorado scored four in a row before pumping the brakes in the third. They still dominated the game and controlled the tempo. Pavel Pivonka managed to get Montreal on the boars in the third period but this was just a bad game to watch. Montreal are now playing to their expectations right now.

Game # 37 Colorado Raptors vs Montreal Militia

TSN Turning Point

The turning point came early in this one. At the 5:50 mark of the first period, the Colorado Raptors struck first, when Alex Winters fire one past the Montral Militia net minder. This first goal proved to remove all the wind from the Militia's sales, as they failed to mount any semblance of a counter punch. This goal also fired up the Raptors squad, as they put the pedal to the meta;, racking up four straight goals en route to cruising to a 4-1 victory. This goes to show how vital a quick start is, and how much getting that first goal can set the tone for an entire match.

Welcome to the 8th edition of the Shot Blocker of the Game. Tonight's winner is yet again from the Colorado Raptors as they claim their 3rd win in as many games covered, Sachimo Zoidberg Jr.

This is a team that just seems to churn out blocked shots. Zoidberg Jr. was on fire tonight laying in the way of 3 shots on his way to his 1st Shot Blocker award. His highlight of the night came early in the 2nd period. The Raptors had just taken a 3-0 lead and the Militia were pressing. Radoven Huvec moved into the zone and ripped a surprising shot that Zoidberg read all the way into his skate. That helped the Raptors keep the momentum and later score their 4th goal in a row en route to a 4-1 win.

Blues' Goon of the Game

Dual Goon of the Game awards are going out tonight to Jake Reid and Troy McClure III, both of the Colorado Raptors. These boys are out here channeling their inner raptor whenever they hit the ice, as they’re two of the most feared players in the SMJHL today. Reid copped an interference and a high sticking minor, while McClure was caught slashing a Militia player. Reid saw a bit more offensive success, finished with a plus two rating to McClure’s minus one. No points for either guy, but hey, that isn’t what this is about. It’s about recognizing those grinders and enforces out there in the SMJHL!

Pivonka's Pick

The Raptors smashed and disbanded the Militia in a 4-1 shellacking, and there's plenty of blame to go around but you have to put this one on goalie Petr Vrana. Petr gave up all 4 goals in just 15 shots on net, and while his team didn't offer any real support, he simply has to be better than that. You could argue it doesn't fall on the goalie when his team barely scores and that might be true but consider that Vrana's .733 save percentage comes without a PowerPlay Goal being scored in the whole game. He surrendered 4 even strength goals in 40 minutes and you can't win a game like that.
