Coloured leaves on the trees, cool brisk air, fall jackets and winter gloves, Training Camp has begun in beautiful Montreal and all the returning faces are joined by a few new ones. The Militia picked up some solid re-enforcments during the draft. Draft project #1 Andreas Kvalheim. The Left winger is Highly skilled and should make an impact soon. His Skating, Puck Handling, passing, Scoring touch and defense are all at a high level. Draft prospect #2 is the permanent return of Right winger Hiro Fujikawa. You know the GM’s were happy to bring him back to the team. Seriously tho, this man is a scoring machine. A pure sniper, which is what this team needs. Draft Prospect #3 is Right winger Griffith Cadwalader. The 3rd Right winger selected by the team in a row, Cadwalader is a solid 2 way Forward. His passing and Defense are solid as well as his skating. He may need to spend some time with the shooting coach but he’ll be solid on the Penalty kill to start. A few picks after the British right winger, the Militia selected Centerman Marshal Ray. A disciplined center with a solid faceoff and passing skillset, this centerman excels at defense, making him a solid penalty kill option. The Militias last pick was a bit of a flyer, Defensman Elias Hughes. Montreal needed the shooting D man and Hughes is that. Whether or not he evolves into something good time will tell. With the majority of the roster returning, the Militia look ready to make a solid run for a championship this season. Vrana is back in goal again this season with Pivonka, Kazarian, Brogen, Hudon,Schieck, Raanteli, Toivanen. Last season rookie trio are back as well with a full season under their belt. Willy Mack, Derek Bohne and Willie Fisterbottom were all first round picks in the SHL draft. “ we expect to make some serious noise this season, we feel that we fell short last season and we had so much more to give so we are going to bring it this season.” answered Raanteli. Last season saw the Militia squeak into the playoffs on the last day of the season on the back of Jeff broken who basically beat Kelowna on his own to insure that Montreal made the post season. Montreal then went on to beat rivals Colorado in 7 before falling to Vancouver in 5 with controversy. “Ya, we really really weren’t expecting to have to replay some games. It wasn’t the best and we let it get to us i think.” said Willy Mack. “ we are going to have to be consistent this season, which i think we can be.” Training camp has begun. This season will see a one week intensive trading camp before pre season kicks in. The GMs are now entering their second season at the helm of this team. “ Last season we did alright, it took an adjustment period to get the hang of all the daily in and outs of the team but we feel we have a good grip on everything now. Our team is strong and we feel we can win now. Our defensive core is strong, it’s some we can boast about. Our offence is solid, some really experienced guys who can put up points. Our Goaltending is strong, Vrana has the experience to handle a big work load and Wyndham was solid when we called on him.” Said GM Collins. Montreal is working hard to get special teams clicking this season. “ The power play is something we need to improve on. We did well overall but we need our Power play to be lethal. Our Penaltykill was very solid and consistent, but we can always improve.” said Co-GM Atkins. The Militia will be holding their first ever annual awards show before the season begins. There are many team awards ups for grabs but the most interesting one will be the rookie of the year as all three rookies from last season performed extremely well. It’ll be interesting to see how the new recruits do in an environment like Montreal. From being drafted to training camp and then the awards show, it will be a lot to take in without the added distraction of a city like Montreal. || || || || || ||
