Holiday PT - Seasons Greetings!
#1

While we wait for the preseason to get underway, let's fast-forward to mid-season... say, late December. Wink

Your Task

Written Option: Write 100 words about whatever your player typically does for the holidays - whether that's celebrating with family, spending it far from home for the first time, not doing anything because they don't do any of the usual holidays... whatever.

Graphic Option: Make a holiday-themed graphic. Could be a Christmas card with your player on it, team-themed gingerbread man, team stockings, your player in the snow, your player eating Chinese food on Christmas Eve because they don't celebrate... again, whatever.

Reward

2 TPE for doing the thing. (Just one of the things, not both.)

Only S45 SMJHL Rookies (S46 SHL Rookies) are eligible for this PT.

Do not claim this TPE until a post is made in the claim thread.

Deadline
Friday, December 28, 10:00 AM Central Time

Usually I spend my holidays with my family and friends in Moscow, my hometown, but this time is special, because right now I'm in Vancouver, so far away from all of them.

Thank God I have my new teammates and team staff, they are all very nice people and help me accomodate to this new life. Actually, I have never celebrated this early before because in Russia we celebrate New Year instead and holidays begin only on December, 31st. Right now I'm just going to have fun with my new friends, it's a great way to know them better. After that I'm just going to prepare for the upcoming SMJHL season like everyone else. We are all dreaming about the Cup and we all want to contribute to it. I'm looking forward to it so much!

As every Christmas in Slovakia, Andrej eats.

It is really hard to run away from the traditional food during the Christmas dinner, as in general this is taken as a time of indulgence and as a cheat holiday. Can't say that he would complain, though, as the food is excellent.

Opening up with a lentil soup or cabbage soup with homemade smoked sausage and mushrooms, continue with generally a fried carp, albeit Andrej's family changed at least this tradition as carps can be really annoying to eat thanks to the bones, therefore any fried fish with a mayonaisse potato salad. Finish off with opekance - little pieces of baked dough then cooked in boiling water and covered in poppy - or with a bunch of cakes or the only really healthy thing this whole tradition allows - nuts and fruit.

Needless to say, this takes extra time in gym to get rid off afterwards. Oh well.

(sorry for forcing my culture upon you, but hey, it's easy for me to write and might be interesting for someone)

During the holidays, the Petermens all reunite in Queens where we celebrate Christmas. Christmas is usually a week-long event involving spending time with family, watching SHL games on the TV, and going outside to play some hockey ourselves. Christmas dinner is one of the Petermen specialties, with everyone chipping in to create a whole assortment of foods that could make any family proud. Personally, my favorite is the cranberry sauce, a Petermen specialty. Of course, you can't think of holidays at the Petermens without thinking about the Secret Santa. Each year, we all get assigned one person to get a gag gift for. This year, I'm giving my cousin from Boston, a die-hard Wolfpack fan, some Manhattan Rage socks. I think he'll enjoy it.

Bernik usually travels home for the holidays. His family does a light Štědrý den/Štedrý deň, Otherwise known as Generous Day. It is national holidays from the 24th through 26 in the Czech Republic, so his family usual comes together to have meals and share family time.

Before his Grandfather passed away, his family would usually travel to his his home and enjoy his company, nowadays it is just some distant relatives now and again. The family traditions end their as usual Bernik's father and grandfather would get back to work not long after. This left Bernik free on the following days. When it was cold enough he'd frequently organize a small pond hockey game with all of the local kids he could find and bring some friends.

Later in the day, he could frequently be found skating down rivers and enjoying some quiet.

During the Holidays, Collin Gibbles normally spends time at home with family and plays in an open three on three tournament pond hockey for local players. He has been playing in the GR Holiday Cup for years and always makes time to teach new skaters some skills to improve their game. After the games, the community gathers together for a party at the community center complete with hot chocolate and fresh baked cookies while holiday movies play. While home Gibbles also likes to keep up his workout regime to ensure he is staying in peak form for the season. His family also makes sure to volunteer time at the local soup kitchen to help those less fortunate.

Olivier hates holidays, but he's definitely happy to have his grandmother come to Anchorage to visit for Christmas, even if he tried to convince her he'd be fine and she should stay with the rest of the family. His billet family are kind enough to host the both of them, which is really just a bonus for them, because Jeanette is an excellent baker and cook, and she doesn't allow her help to be rejected. Olivier is particularly glad for the company at midnight mass on Christmas Eve; his billet family aren't religious, and he would have gone alone, but it's much nicer to have his grandma with him.

Well this year will be different from most others and he really doesn't know what to expect.  Sure Whacker has spent Christmas' in the past away from his family and friends, but usually that only because he was part of a team somewhere else.  The difference though between those times and this year's will be the fact that it will be the first one for Whacker spent basically alone in another country.  You see he still hasn't made it back yet to the states and only yesterday found out he was drafted in the SHL minors draft....everything he's been posting about coming to the SHL was kind of been a joke, but uhhh now he's gotta learn how to skate.  His plans this year for christmas though will most likely be buying a bottle of something and really FEEL the Christmas inside of him as it warms his belly, and most likely he'll seek out a companion, whether it is paid for or not.

First of many holidays abroad for a young Kristoffer Svensson - and if his hopes pan out; one of many to come.

Christmas and New Year's Eve, two holidays strictly spent with family and friends - respectively - back home. And while family is an Atlantic ocean away from Sweden, the friends part already seems to be panning out OK. Newfound team members who also get to spend the holidays away from home are a godsend as at least loneliness won't be a worry.

And he can rest assured that his family is thinking of him - he's already received a package filled with enough Julmust (Thanks, mom!) to carry him throughout January, along with your assorted greetings and well-wishes from home.

With a glass of Julmust in hand, there's one particular thought keeping the homesickness at bay - the upcoming chase for the cup.

Instead of doing traditional holiday activities, Jimmy Slothface's holiday tradition is spending a week in Las Vegas. Jimmy trades in the wreaths and egg nog for casinos and booze. He finds that there are plenty of great deals on rooms, and if he slips the front desk cash there is always a "free" upgrade to one of the available penthouses. He makes sure to eat at least one meal at his favorite restaurant: Vetri Cucina at the Palms. A must after a long night at the craps tables and free drinks is a trip to In N Out to soak everything up. And finally Jimmy spends most of his time relaxing by the pool and using the gym at the hotel so he is prepared for the upcoming season.

Tis the season to spend time with family, which is why Guy Zheng is helping build an outdoor hockey rink for his nieces and nephews right in his grandparents' backyard. It's not cold enough in England for an outdoor rink, so Guy has fond memories of flying across the pond every Christmas to skate on frozen lakes and play hockey with his Canadian cousins. Now, he hopes to spread the joy to the next generation, and hopefully raise the next group of Zhengs in the SHL.

Aside from hockey, Guy has a special Christmas tradition of disguising presents as if he was gifting strange household objects. Last year, he disguised a watch as a toilet seat, and gave out a few pairs of socks in suspiciously phallic shaped boxes.

With his family back in Latvia, Kalvins Zvejnieks had usually found a way home for the holidays, for even though his family is Pagan, the Zvejnieks get time off work for these holidays anyways. However, this year Kalvins flew out his relatives to Detroit, where they visited his new home and got to meet Detroit staff and some of the other players. "They were all quite happy, and despite some language barriers got among great with my new teammates" Zvejnieks said. Kristers Zvejnieks, Kalvins' father and an Archdruid in his community, had this to say for Detroit. "Biggest city I have ever seen. Beautiful city. Not many Druids though. A-minus"

The holidays is a time of joyfulness and cheer. Thats is why Mike Hunt decided to go home for the holidays after a wicked party thrown in the lockeroom by our Gm in which Mathias ended up getting super wasted and jumped on the table attempting to sing the first noel as a heavy metal song. This of course flung the entire punch bowl all over the enigmatic alumni Andreas Kvalheim who had been invited by our lovely GM he then went to say something to our lovely GM however he was only greeted with a flurry of bad puns as dangles had been pre gaming run and eggnogs to his own chistmas party! Jerry Mander and collin gibbles were playing beer pong on the other side of the room in which jerry won every round and kept yelling. "THE SNAKE ALWAYS FINDS THE HOLE." Collin was much more interested on eating several whole pizzas that he had stock piled beside himself. It was a beautiful party and Mike Hunt was glad he got to spend it with his new family and it will be a chistmas tadition from now on! Well he was glad until the day after at least...

Hans Zucker loves Christmas time, but not for religious reasons or the gifting, but mainly because he loves all the holidays that brings the family together. In everyone's daily lives his family is busy with their own problems and not always they manage to be together a lot as a family. Dinners at the same time, watching movies or playing board-games is not quite something that was often on Hans's table. So Hans loves holidays, such as Christmas when the whole family get's together and cooks after which sits down around the same table, enjoy each others company, some good music, good food and of course presents. This year the Zucker family feast will consist of three different pies (meat pie, potato/carrot pie and sweet pie), beet salad, meat salad, boiled potatoes, roasted lambs leg, red wine gravy, fresh vegetables and for the drinks - tea, coffe and milkshake as the desert.
