New Orleans Voodoo Pitch
#1

After reading @39alaska39 's great article about potential SMJHL expansion locations I was inspired to write a pitch for the New Orleans Voodoo.

Why should the SMJHL look to expand into the Big Easy? First of all, the SMJHL has no presence at all in the deep south. In the gulf region, there are only 2 SHL franchises, the Texas Renegades and West Kendall Platoon. By investing in the deep south area the SMJHL could create a strong fanbase from those in the area with no other options. By being the first SMJHL franchise in the region, the Voodoo would have the chance to create a faithful fanbase not just in Louisiana but also in the surrounding gulf states.

The New Orleans metro area boasts a population of over a million people. That is definitely enough people to support a SMJHL team. In addition to that is New Orleans tourist draw. Travelers could be intrigued to take in a game and fans of other teams would make the trip to see their team playing against the newly established Voodoo.

The design of the team would be deeply tied to the culture of New Orleans. The teams colors come from New Orleans' biggest holiday, Mardis Gras.

Purple, green, and yellow are the colors of Mardis Gras and a color combination that would be totally unique in the SMJHL. The logo of voodoo symbol Baron Samedi brings some of the area's more interesting traditions to light. If possible the rose in Samedi's mouth could be swapped for a hockey stick.

I think the team would benefit most from really digging into the culture on Louisiana and putting it on display. Pregame crawfish boils along with encouraged tailgating will help encourage the fanbase to come together and put that New Orleans party lifestyle right there for fans to see and enjoy. The goal song for the Voodoo would have to be some kind of swamp folk music. Let's get weird in the Big Easy.

I like it! I had pitched the New Orleans Hex around S25, but I'm not great at graphics. Although I like the name Hex more than Voodoo (to me, Voodoo is a little "played out"), this looks a lot cooler. Cheers

Hex is a great name! I'd totally be for it.

I like the idea, but the jersey does look a bit off. Maybe have the green be darker or something.
