Good morning and welcome to another episode of Lynx's Learnings, today we'll be looking at the current top 10 rookies in scoring and seeing how they stack up against each other. Using complex analytical skills, we have tabulated some additional advanced stats on each player and will be running through them with you. If you'd like to see them yourselves, here ya go buddy! On to the rookies...

At first glance we can see the top 10 is a nice mix of all positions and teams. Surprisingly, though, defenseman make up the 5/10 of the top 10 players.



Osbert Whacker: Osbert is the top dog at this point in the season, coming in with a stellar 18 points in 25 games played. He's a great defensive set up man on the Anaheim Outlaws and has 15 assists, 2 on the powerplay, to lead the rookies this season.

Raino Kyllanen from Detroit is our top rated center at the moment. While his 5v5 play is nothing to write home about, but his 3 goals and 5 assists on the powerplay tie him for first in both categories among the rookies. His .12 pts/powerplay minute is tops and this budding special teams player should be a great pickup for any SHL team looking to bolster their depth.

Collin Gibbles, another Anaheim Outlaw player, comes tied in 2nd with Kyllonen with 17 overall points. He is in a 4 way tie for 5v5 goals in the rookie top 10, but is also tied for 14 in total 5v5 points. Overall his 5v5pts/min played is the highest in the top ten at 0.04 and is a great left-wing player.

The next two players, Dick Clapper and Guy Zheng are both from the Kelowna Knights. Dick Clapper is a LW who is tied for 5v5 goal lead at 5. He's no slouch on the powerplay either and has 5 point there, bringing him into 4th on the overall rookie scoreboard.

Guy Zheng, defenseman, is a workhorse with 448 minutes played during the season so far, which is tied for 4th most amongst the rookies. He has a good balance of points both 5v5 and on the powerplay. He is more of a set-up man than a goal scorer, but as he has shown on the powerplay, his shoot has some punch to it as well.

Donny McMasters from the Lions, our third defenseman on the list, has 12 even strenght points and 3 powerplay points. Out of the rookies he's tied for most powerplay minutes played at 84, which is near 3 minutes per game on average.

Monkey D. Luffy, the 2nd ranked center in the top 10, also hails from the Lions. The Lions seem to like stacking rookies on the powerplay as Monkey is tied with top PP minutes with his teammate Donny. Monkey is no slouch on even strength though as he is tied for the rookie lead at 5 even strength goals.

The next two rookies on the list, Kalevi Karhunen and Karlstrabe Scholz are both defenseman who put in the most even strenght minutes out of the entire top 10. Kalevi is the sole rookie from the Anchorage Armada on the list and has managed to squeak into the top 10 with basically zero power play time (3 min total). His 3 goals and 11 assist, tied for 7th most points in the top 10, are all even strength. In fact, the 14 points is tied for best when only counting even strength scoring. His even strength points/min is the best amongst the defenseman.

Karlstrabe pis the 3rd Kelowna player in the top 10 and makes it there on being a solid defensive player who the coach trusts to chew up a lot of minutes. Playing a rookie high 568 total minutes in 25 games, Karlstrabe leads the rookies in ice time. His 14 points is no slouch either as he has 3 goals and 11 assists.

Last, but certainly not least as this is a top 10 list, is Clifton Outlaw. This Halifax Raider left-wing is a bright spot on an otherwise dismal season for the Raiders. His 8 goals is highest among the rookies as he is tied for both even strenght and powerplay goal leads at 5 and 3. This kid certainly can shoot the puck and can hopefully continue that trend as the Raiders claw their way out of the league basement.



Overall this batch of rookies have a wide variety of strengths. We're seeing a lot of talent both even strength and on the powerplay. These rookies are playing a lot of minutes on these teams and contributing to wins. It's great to see another draft of rookies developing into top line players as I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of these guys in the upcoming season.
