Hagan Announces S46 Plans
#1

BOSTON, MA -- In the midst of a current career-worst season, New England Wolfpack forward Colton Hagan spoke to the media on his plans for the next season. Hagan, an 8 season veteran of the SHL, is due to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) in the off season. Rumors of his possible retirement after this season have been swirling, as the aging winger has only scored 11 points through 28 games. "I've given it a lot of thought, and I absolutely want to play at least one more year of professional hockey," Hagan said. "I will be going through free agency in the coming off season. Notice how I said will? I also have a statement to make to the new expansion GMs, courtesy of league rules shafting UFAs. I will not sign with an expansion team. If you draft me, I will not sign. Period. I have no interest in spending my final season in the league with an expansion team that doesn't have a prayer at winning the Cup. Many people have been saying that I looked to be a good middle 6 guy to take in the expansion draft, and so I feel it is necessary to make this statement."

You do you man, but I think people are underestimating how good the expansion teams could be in their first year. Obviously a lot depends on who is exposed, but most teams are gonna lose at least one solid active. Really wouldn't be surprised if at least one of them make the playoffs year 1

I think with the exposed players they won't be great but they definitely won't be complete trash. The real kicker will be what they can do in free agency and if they can pull in a few big names to really give them an edge.

Why should an unprotected player who is a free agent be forced to sign with an expansion team. If you're a pending free agent is unfair for you to be drafted.

I am also UFA and know that the Expansion Teams will have the RFA Rights of the draften players. Just for this offseason. With this way NEW could think about to not protect him if he made clear to leave the Team. If so an other Who would be ok with an Expansion team will now be protected. On the other side you can bring up those things with the hope not be picked in that expansion draft and give your GM the Chance to save other players. With those articles you could read some options through the lines for players and GMs for the protection lists

But that is just my opinion with my 3rd Expansion experience in the SHL with my eyes

I mean considering it's known to NEW that I'm not going to be around much into regression, it's hard to imagine they'd protect me.

Yea I was just an expansion GM in PBE so I get it - but that's just tough luck. If an FA is leaving they should not be allowed to be drafted. That's unfair to everyone who has waited to become a free agent.

Couldn't we just have a compromise similar to what happened with the actual NHL Vegas expansion? If a UFA is left unprotected, give the expansion teams a window ahead of free agency to talk to those players. At that point, draft them at their own risk, the player can still choose to walk in FA, but the expansion team shouldn't be surprised if it happens. Might be surprised which FAs would be willing to join the expansion team for more ice time, too. Seems fair for all parties.

I think that's a great idea. Screwing over the guys who have waited for Free Agency or planned for several seasons for this to be the season they go to FA only to screw them over is kind of crazy.

you can still go to that team what you would like! RFA rights trade or Sign and Trade
