As the season comes to a close Luke Thomason has a remark of the past season of his 1st SHL career season. We got to talk to him on the phone interview as he flies back home to the Czech Republic to rest up and prepare for the IIHF.
When we asked him how did he think the season went he said this
"You know, I'll be honest, the 1st half of the season kinda sucked for the team. We were just losing, with not a lot of wins in between, morals were low. Its at those times it makes you a hockey player, to get through that bump in the road. I mean I was doing pretty well for myself stat wise, leading the rookies in points and all. When I stopped slowing down in production, oddly enough we started to heat up, starting to win a couple more games here and there, management changed up some of our playing style, we got in the groove. By the end I think in the past 20 or so games we were at a .500 level, which is promising. Getting that hatty at the end of the season was a nice bonus for me,as I wanted to get a hatty in my rookie season. I cant let Alex Winters be the only Czech coming home with one you know."
Speaking of your Fellow Czech Alex Winters, he outpaced you this season, getting more points, and is having a stronger pull for the Jester Award.
"Yeah, you know when your playing it is something I wouldnt like to think about, but it always is in the back of the mind. But Winty is a good friend of mine, played internationally for a couple seasons now, someone who helped me adjust to the North American experience. I am proud of him, even though being a playmaker and getting as many goals as me, I wouldnt call him a playmaker anymore, but he played big for his team. I think I read somewhere he got 4 Game Winners so MAN must be excited to get such a talent in the late 1st round of the draft. He is going places and I am excited for him and his success. It will always be a point of light jabbing and competition in our Czech discord server that our GM of the Czech GM set up a couple of seasons ago to help the younger players adjust to NA hockey and lifestyle.
At the end of the season your contract will be up for SFP, any plan on resigning with the team? or will you be leaving in FA.
"You know nothing is final, I know Mr Grape is speaking to my agent right now to get a good price for next season. Though I will be open to other offers from other teams to see where I am in the FA market. I am very grateful for San Francisco management for drafting me at #3 though, and if I do leave, I dont want them to get nothing in return for me you know. But right now we are talking about resigning and im focused on the IIHF and trying to get Czech the gold. Its not everyday you can play hockey for a living"
