Yesterday the S46 SMJHL Entry Draft took place in Cambridge, UK. That means Gordie Boomhover is no longer a rookie, but a sophomore. Time flies but he remembers his draft vividly. He was selected 87th overall by St.Louis Scarecrows in the S45 Draft. The commentators at that time had no clue who he was, a sniper from the Netherlands, a wannabe Daniel Sprong? Surely a bust, being picked that late in the draft. They couldn't be more wrong as Gordie proved to be one of the late steals in the draft following his 12th overall selection in the S46 SHL Draft. It is special moment hearing out your name called by one of the SMJHL teams. 56 rookies experienced that same feeling in this season draft. 5 of them can proudly say that they have been selected by the Scarecrows. Maybe one of them will be called a steal aswell? We will soon find out. Our picks: 10th overall / Filip Zadina @jjlangabeer With our first pick we selected Filip Zadina, a RW from the Czech Republic. With the departure of wingers Rainbow Dash (Calgary Dragons) and Bernard Freeman (Edmonton Blizzard), St.Louis management took little time to add a talented winger. Filip already has an impressive 200 TPE. His strengths are Scoring, Skating and Defense. 15th overall / Charlie Serpe @Serpe x 13 With our second pick we selected Charlie Serpe, a D from the United States. With the departure of Adam Taylor (Edmonton Blizzard), Samuel Jalopski (Buffalo Stampede), Helmuts Akmenlauks (Chicago Vindicate) and Rowdy Smithers (Aged Out), management knew we had to pick a few defenders. Charlie currently has 176 TPE, but has a big update coming putting him over 200 TPE. His strengths are Passing, Puck Handling and Defense. He could straight make a jump to our second line. 25th overall / Isaac Yamada @shut0ut With our third pick we selected another talented D, Isaac Yamada. Isaac is a massive 6ft 6in, 230 lbs defensive defenseman from Canada. His strengths are Defense, Checking and Skating. He currently is listed as a 155 TPE prospect, but he has a big update coming that puts him close to 170. 45th overall / Mattie Brunton @brunners We did not have a pick in the fourth round, but we used our 5th rounder to pick up another much needed D, Mattie Brunton an offensive defenseman from the United Kingdom. His strengths are Passing, Scoring and Defense. He is listed as 155 TPE, but looks like to get the hang of updating his thread. This could be the sleeper pick of the draft. 55th overall / Brolias Hawking @niravb With the departure of Steve Moyer (San Francisco Pride) St.Louis management used their last pick to select a C, Brolias Hawking from Canada. Brolias strengths are Skating, Scoring and Puck Handling and is listed as a 155 TPE prospect, but like all our draftees still has an update coming. All in all i think @TML99 and @Nictox drafted really well. They filled out pretty much out all the gaps in our roster. Zadina looks like a player that can become an important player in all special units. The three defenders match each other perfect, with different playing styles. Brolias adds much needed depth at center. Welcome rookies to the best team in the SMJHL!
