There absolutely must be a SHL movie about rookie phenom from the New Orleans Specters, the man known as Mr Swiss, Aleister Cain. Cain started his career by being drafted 87th in the SMJHL draft, as a very low pick. GMs were very low on the kid and they did not believe in his potential. Then, Cain burst onto the scene and became a force to be reckoned with in the SMJHL with the St. Louis Scarecrows. He was then drafted to the bigs by the fantastic Edmonton Blizzard, who were on their way to winning a cup. Cainer was so excited to be a part of the young Blizzard squad and to be the next starter, but not all would go as planned as the expansion draft was looming. The Blizzard decided to go with the proven starter, Tommy Tuck. In an almost poetic way, Cain would be selected 1st overall in the expansion draft. From 87th to 1st, Cainer really proved his worth to the league.

Barry Batskbak is my teammate, and line mate in Kelowna. As a first gen player he was relatively unknown, and the Knights were able to snag him at 61st overall in the SMJHL S45 entry draft. From their he went on to have a good rookie season, and was a fantastic presence in the locker room. He jumped to to being selected in the second round at 22nd overall by the Calgary Dragons. He will no doubt go have a fantastic career as a playmaking centre.  Knights Dragons

Dick clapper is also one of my teammates in Kelwona. Clapper was signed as a undrafted free agent, and with that name he was bound to explode onto the league. He had a fantastic rookie year, and his activity rocketed him to being selected in the 3rd round, at 37th overall by the New England Wolf Pack. He will also no doubt go on to have a fantastic career in the SHL. He could be seen in the show by next season  Knights Wolfpack

Barret McCarthy's path to the SHL was never an easy one. Growing up in the shadow of his older brother, Cloud McCarthy, and then watching him sadly fizzle out, Barret was told by many people that his fate would be the same, or worse, than his brother's was. Despite this, Barret continued to train, and hone his skills, sometimes purposely not calling his parents to pick him up so that he could get extra time on the ice after school or on weekends. His skills improved, and his scoring and defensive numbers surpassed his brother's through high school, which caught the attention of his coaches and fellow teammates, as well as a few SMJHL scouts. The rest beyond that has yet to be told, but it took several strained muscles, long nights, weekends, and and extreme lack of sleep to push Barret McCarthy into the SHL, and that same dedication pushes him still, wondering what he can achieve...

I'd like to know the story of Esa Anrikkanen. I know we have heard a lot of things, especially me playing with him on the Calgary Dragons for many seasons, but just the ups and downs before getting to the SHL, and all the stories within. All the chicken parms he had to eat, all the restaurants he had to go to in order to try out their chicken parms, and just how that chicken parm love was formed. The journey through the SHL career he had, and everything building up to winning those championships, especially in the time before my player, Michael Boychuk made the team. Esa did a ton of great things, is one of the best players of all time, and the man behind the player is one of the best GMs of all time, if not the best at both of those things. That would be quite something.

The story of gorlab reaches far beyond the now-ancient meme's he has since turned into. Once a dominating player in the league and dedicated member (if not leader) of the forums, gorlab was given a lifetime-ban several years ago from the community. His player, Steven Jalopski, was retired shortly thereafter for obvious reasons. However, his legacy would (and continues to) live on, as many of his posts are still pinned to a number of different threads throughout the community.

The ending of Jalopski's career was an incredibly sobering moment as well, when during the 27th season of the SHL his player finally made it to and won his first and final Challenge Cup. The story of gorlab spanned 20+ seasons in the SHL and saw his achieve the highest of highs, eventually plummeting to the lowest of lows. Given the recent state of our community, I think there can be a lot learned from the story of Jalopski & the human behind him.

The story of @Wasty is a long and storied one. He’s one of the oldest members here and he’s the longest tenured GM. Clearly he’s doing something right to stay so motivated all these years and continue being successful not only as a GM but also as a player. Even the most motivated people eventually get burnt out and disappear (trust me, I was one of those extremely motivated people), but Wasty has seemed to find some sort of life/work/SHL balance and you reall can’t deny that it’s nothing short of impressive. I’d like to figure out how exactly he has been able to stay motivated and interested this entire time and continue to be successful at every level he does anything at. He can make a hall of fame player while simultaneously running a pretty successful SHL team, along with his co GM of course. I’d like to take a look into a day in the life, especially all the weed stuff.

Egor Kucherov is a young boy from Moscow who is dreaming of becoming a professional hockey player. After hours and hours of endless grinding at trainings, after forgetting about everything but hockey, his dream comes true and the outcome exceeds all expectations — after stellar performance in Russian leagues Egor gets noticed by the SMJHL scouts and gets drafted by the Vancouver Whalers.

Now the new chapter of his life opens and this one will not be easier — now he has to live in another country on the other side of the world. There were so many questions: how fast can he adapt to an absolutely new way of living and entirely different hockey which is played at much higher level? Will he surrender or keep fighting for the dream?

Thankfully the first season with the Whalers was good and Egor was able to perform well, leading the team's rookies in scoring.

And then the day has come — the day of the SHL Draft. An extremely nervous event for everyone, with Egor not being an exception. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Panthers and now he is hoping to become a full-time SHLer and win the championship. Will he? Only time will tell.

Monkey D. Luffy, Lethbridge Lions captain and Buffalo Stampede prospect has had a very interesting career so far. An offensive centerman, blessed with an innate ability to put the biscuit in the basket, Monkey came third in rookie scoring last season, albeit amongst a much worse team - the expansion Lethbridge Lions. Whilst all teams make the playoffs in the SMJHL, Monkey D. Luffy still dragged them there kicking and screaming, almost instantly becoming captain - showing incredible leadership both on and off the ice. It's clear in hindsight that Luffy was the steal of the S45 SMJHL Entry Draft, and after a year of incredible development and production, the Buffalo Stampede opted to take him 4th overall in the S46 SHL Entry Draft, making him the first first-gen player taken in the draft. The sky is the ceiling for the Lions captain, so don't be surprised if you see him pulling on a green and yellow jersey sooner rather than later.

Kristian Eriksson came into the SHL as part of the S20 draft class. Having just finished a successful season with the Kelowna Knights of the SMJHL, Eriksson was projected by many to go early in the SHL draft. However, he ended up falling to the second round, going 13th overall to the Toronto North Stars. Eriksson would spend his entire career with the North Stars, becoming arguably the greatest S20 player. During his 24 seasons with the North Stars, Eriksson was a three time First All-Star team member, a regular season and playoff MVP, and led Toronto to its first and only Challenge Cup victory in S35. Eriksson racked up points over his long career, and buoyed by a late career resurgence in the late S30s, Eriksson ended up mired in a points race with fellow greybeard Esa Anrikkanen. First, they raced towards 927 points to tie Joe McKeil as the SHL's all-time leading scorer, and Anrikannen reached the mark first, just days before Eriksson. Next, they struggled towards the 1000 point plateau, with Eriksson getting there just 1 day before Anrikannen. Eriksson retired at the end of that season, as the first SHL player to reach 1000 career points, and the second leading scorer in SHL history.

I would love to see a movie about Ron Mexico made for the league. I know the MVP is named after him but his name and story is almost never mentioned around the SHL, and I feel that sharing that story with the next generation of SHL players would be huge. Also, I really want to know more about it since I know absolutely nothing. I know he was one of the earliest players in the league, much like the way the NHL has awards named after early players, but to actually tell his story to the league would be a noble task. Even if it is a boring story in the end, learning more about the history of the league and the players that shaped the game before those of us that are coming into the league now were around. All in all, I feel that a Ron Mexico movie would be the right choice.

You know the Movie Ocean's 11? New Orleans also has an Oceans 11, where they steal the Challenge from under the noses of the rest of the simulation hockey league. So let's get down to it, after a short stint with the Edmonton Blizzard, @JKortesi81 has taken on the role of George Clooney and sought revenge. He enlists @TheDangaZone who will be taking on the role of Brad Pitt's character and the two set off to pull off the hockey heist of the year. They assemble a gang that consists of the munitions guru that is @SlashACM taking on the role Don Cheadle. Bernie Mac's role as the inside man is taken by none other than Xaiver Paquette, and then Soren Kiekegaard as the bank rolling Elliott Gould, in that he is pretty much the only guy who could probably be removed from the equation and the team would still function. @Evok and Orsin flecther play the key Shaobo Qin as even with setbacks, they just keep going and never stop. Finally we end with the role of Matt Damon, the final piece to the puzzle as played by Matt Damon in the original piece who is played by @majesiu Piotr Czerkawski and is the key to getting this team going. Instead of robbing a casino, they rob teams of goals, and score them themselves.

As a newer member, I will be talking about my dear friends in Hamilton.
Firstly let's talk about old old members. Hallsy comes to mind first. He has been in SHL since S8. His journey is an interesting one. In S8 his player was Taylor McDavid. McDavid played from S8 to S29. Impressive career. He has 870 Career points alongside with 3434 Hits. He holds the record for most hits in SHL history! He also used to be hated user, but not as much these days. His 2nd player, Ben Dover is still going strong. After only playing 2 full seasons in SMJHL and getting called up for S31 Ben has been loyal Hamilton Steelhawks player. With 750 SHL Career games played and 611 Total SHL Career points, he's looking like a fine Hall of Famer when he decides to retire. He might go for 20 season's but speculations are he retires sooner than expected. Only time will tell!

What on earth is Tokek Takshak doing?

The question gets asked whether he's out on the ice, usually on the wrong side, or behind a bar, mixing the wrong drink, or trying and woefully failing to roll another burrito. Where did he come from? (The answer is Jakarta) Is he actually a functioning adult? (The answer is no) Would a story about him be interesting, like, at all? (The answer is no) Should we make it anyway? (The answer is still no, but we're going to anyway so we don't hurt his feelings. He's a nice guy.)

Instead of the unremarkable career and progress of Tokek, it'd be far more interesting to ask his coaches and GMs some questions. Did Ted know that the third rounder was gonna go on to be a first round pick? (no) Did Jaywhy know that his eighth overall pick would be hot garbage? (also no)

Find out the answers to all these questions and more on the next episode of SHL True Hollywood Story!

I think my fellow S46 Rookie; Kristoffer Svensson deserves a look. Svensson and I were both drafted to the Montreal Militia in the very large S45 SMJHL Class. Svensson has grinded his way from the bottom to be a leading member of the Rookie User S46 class and the Militia captain. Svensson had a good rookie campaign playing on a team that had lots of trouble scoring. Montreal was eliminated early in the playoffs. @gillon is also very active with the team and contributes some sweet gifs.

From there Svensson made the Swedish WJC team and played very well getting 12 points in the round robin and 3 points in the medal round. In fact Svensson beat his fellow team mate; Nikolai Evans in the bronze medal game. The hilarious part is Svensson slashed Evans in the bronze medal game. Causing some heat between them on ice. Svensson was also chosen to be captain ahead of the super star Nikolai Evans. They seem to be motivating each other as both are on a tear through the first fifth of the season. Svensson has 13 points and Evans with 14. New vs Old. Sweden vs Russia. Can’t get better than this.
